Assume you mean in Dublin, though of course all are welcome.

    Let the date negotiations commence!

If it has to be a Friday then the 18th dec.

    Why not both?

You can't expect the highly trained athletes of boards to go drinking twice before christmas. But I suppose the roller racing does nullify the drinking on that particular night.

Christmas is overrated ... I think tiny still has my black Santa hat ...

Any night but the 18th please! As OP you should have a veto on this Vélo

The Church is an awful place, full of pot bellied office yahoos and heel-wobbling oompa loompas stuffing their faces in the restaurant and then pouring the free drink on the company credit card down their gullets, creating a big cavernous racket and no atmosphere. Avoid avoid avoid.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,831 ✭✭✭ROK ON

    Suggest
Thur 17. Thur before Christmas week is not really a school night.

Also if the Church offends then feel free to suggest alternative.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,218 ✭✭✭✭Lumen

What's all this nonsense about school nights? This is December, in Ireland. Isn't everyone supposed to spend the month drunk and/or hungover?

Thursday the 17th is the night of the Dublin Cycling Campaign xmas party in Crawdaddy, its in another thread, we'll be squaring off that night at goldsprints.

He's an anti-corporate crusader. I tell you, I was glad I didn't wear my pin-stripe suit to the last one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Going to the Dublin cycling thing would be good.

Full boards gear on rental bikes!

(Maybe just winter jackets and regular clothes).

The tattoos and other nonsense, thats just all a trendy facade. I'd be a corporate whore (or should that be corporate rentboy) if some corporation was actually willing to give me any money to lie down with them. I'm as mainstream as they come. I even read The Economist every week*.

I cant think of any other places in town that would be big enough to accomodate a large (how many showed up last time?) group without a booking. Personally my favourite places are smaller pubs like Grogans, Lord Edward, Anseo, Nearys, etc. Bit more intimate, nicer seating, a crowd that doesnt look and smell like its come straight from Leeson Street. But I know those places might not be suitable for a group meetup. The back bar in the Glimmerman in Stoneybatter is quite big but I dont think anyone here would be too keen on going there. I just really hate the Church. I think its awful in so many ways. Overblown mega gastro boozers dont do it for me. I also think the seating and acoustics arent conducive to moving around and meeting new people.

Friday the 18th sounds good. I say go for that and stick with it.
There's always going to be one or two people who cant make certain dates and times.

    *this bit is actually true.

And I bet I wouldnt be allowed to wear my drinking helmet in peace in there either.

Nearys is a nice pub. However the OP can't make it. While there will be some who will never make it, it would be a tad harsh to pick the one night not suitable to the OP.

    How about Monday 21 Dec.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

How about I just put it out there, seeing as at least a few other people are thinking it: straight to Coppers, hit the shots.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,920 ✭✭✭Vélo

If I can't make it and it suits everyone else to have it on 18th. December then go ahead and have it that day.

Believe it or not it's not the end of the world if I don't see you all over christmas.

How about Saturday 19th. December? (I'm nearly sure I can make it then)

I'm off to Spain on the 20th, but don't plan around me. December is usually my busiest month so I might not be able to make a date before that.

Good man. It'll be like Dungarvan all over again.

Is there a post count threshold, or can anyone tag along?

Don't let that stop you. No-one can remember two sets of names after the first drink anyway.

"So, right, let me get this straight, RobFowl is not called Rob, Lukester is not called Luke, Kennyb3 is not called Kenny, Biker Joe's name isn't Joe. And FrankGrimes isn't Frank. And where the hell is Blorg?"

    "He's on his way".

Low postcount people shall be subjected to hazing rituals. These will involve shots.

Would now be a good time to mention that I'm not really a doctor? So if anyone drinks a bit too much, all I can offer is a soothing "There there..."

Any advantage you gain from EPO would be negated by the non-aerodynamic qualities of that magnificent beard.

This occasion is crying out for a 12 pubs....an endurance event with lots of rules and regulations (most of which ye will end up breaking).

It's practically made for cyclists :)

Pay no heed to this woman. She's like one of those tequila cowgirls you get in dodgy bars*, except armed with a tray of sambucas in place of the shot belt.

in this occasion, what will be broken is my bank account. 60quid in booze is half a pair of decent shorts... and almost 2 new tires...

Not the 18th, I'm already on a 12 pubs crawl. Not the 16th its the work xmas party.

Suggest Bull and Castle - there's a DB stand right outside for the racing. 2 lengths of Dame st should be fine for the heats, all the way up and around Trinity for the final sound ok?

+1 on B&C actually, the BierHall upstairs is perfect for a large group, and the DB Stands will make for good fun -there's also bike racks outside to lock too!

Also, Mon-Wed they have 4 euro Irish Craft beer pints (selected - think it's Hooker, & OHaras, maybe the Well too) - presume that still runs through the xmas

Have you seen what hookers look like outside the pale? *shudders*

Funny story, there was a lap dancing club in Kilkenny and all the holy joes were outside it every weekend with their "down with that sort of thing" banners. It closed and is now a gay bar :D
