Sat 10th April 6 @ 7:00 m/m It was pretty warm again today. Nice run.

Sun 11th 18 @ 6:44 m/m Tired today. Happy to have this out of the way.

I feel your pain - this weekend's long run felt like the toughest long run of training.

Feet up from here on in! ;)

    Mon 12th April: 6 @ 6:58 m/m nothing but fatigue to report.

Tue 13th April: 6 @ 6:50 m/m Better than Monday but still feeling a bit on the stale side.

    Wed 14th April:

    2.68 wu @ 6:54
    10.45 inc 6 x 1 mile with 80 sec recovery & 3.7 cooldown avg pace for workout and cd 6:34 m/m

    5:39
    5:38
    5:40
    5:40
    5:43
    5:39

Thats me gone through 1000 miles for the year so far(1009.5)
I made a choice at the start of the year not to take part in the 1000 mile thread. I thought it was best to just run the miles I felt like and not to have any outside influences.
I'm pretty happy the way my total mileage has worked out - other than having to cut back for 2 weeks when my knee was playing up.

Congrats on hitting the 1k, even if you're not participating! That's great mileage. Have you changed your 'out loud' target, or is it still the same?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 519 ✭✭✭dermCu

Number one priority is still to break 2:50.
After that I'll see how close I can go to 2:45. I'm not just saying it but I really will go a lot by how I feel over the first few miles - I'd prefer not to blow up, been there, done that, didn't enjoy it much.

Well done Dermo on reaching the 1000mile mark, thats a great session you did on wed, 2.45 is well within your capabilities, you have set yourself up too have a smashing race.

    Thur 15th April: 8.65 @ 6:51 m/m Feeling pretty good.

Fri 16th April: 0 Rest. It was always in my plan to have 1 full rest day this week so I took it even though I felt pretty fresh the previous day.

Sat 17th April: 7 @ 6:51 m/m Was moving along pretty well. It was fairly warm.

Sun 18th April: 13.18 : 6:44 m/m Warm again today. I felt pretty lethargic all day so I was happy when the running was ok from the start. My plan was to do 2 @ ~ 6:20 probably from mile 10. However mile 2 beeped and I saw 6:24 so threw on the brakes straight away. Deciding that less was more I only did one mile @ 6:15 m/m later on. Felt ok, not flying but not struggling.

For once I'm hoping for a busy week at work.

Good luck Dermo with the rest off the week, a little sharpener tues or wed and you will be all set. I watched that lad Martin Fagan today class act, very comfortsble all the way. My mate is due to flyover on sat, but he has booked the ferry today also just in case the ash cloud has'nt disappeared. I reckon thousands of people will miss the start line of the race.

+1 on that. Best of luck taking it easy during the week. Hope it is uneventful. You must be looking forward to it now after the great block of training youve just done

    Mon 19th April: 0 Rest

    Tue 20th April: 6 @ 6:47 m/m Mile 2 @ 6:39, mile 3 @ 6:09 then back to 7 m/m for the remainder.

Thanks Heff & boyBlunder. Saw Fagan's result sounds like he is in great shape. Pity he had to pull out of the LA marathon. By all accounts he was ready to go sub 2:10.

Its looking like a lot of people will miss the marathon. Such bad luck.

Hopefully I won't be one of them!

Keep an eye out for me in the GFA pen, and say hello if you see me. I'll have an old "Streets of Wicklow 5k" tshirt on for warmup, and then the mighty Boards AC singlet for racing!

Wed 21st April: 8.36 @ 6:50 Miles 6 & 7 just under MP. Felt good on them. Think I'll shuffle 5 or 6 tomorrow then rest Friday and maybe shuffle 2 miles on Sat.

Great stuff, glad to hear that you should be able to travel.
I'll keep an eye out for you. I'll probably be in the start pen pretty early - I'm tagging along on the bus organised by my local club. They leave way too early! But its still a lot better than tube/train. I'll be wrapped up in some corner in a black fleece. Warmup - white "Watford half marathon" tshirt. For the race a navy coloured asics singlet.

Have enjoyed the log Derm. All the best on Sunday. All the work is done, no bother to ya. Looking forward to the report.

Hi Derm. Long time reader, first time poster on your log. Just out of interest, what trainers would you have used in training and what will you be using for the big day in London? The reason I ask is that I'll be starting a plan in a month or so and will be aiming for sub 3. At the minute I have Mizuno wave inspire's that are nearing the end of their days..

+1 dermCu. A very enjoyable log, and wishing you the very best for the big day. Weather forecasts look pretty good. G'luck!

Thur 22nd April: 6 @ 7:06 m/m I know I said I'd shuffle this 6 miles but I just felt really good at that pace - I really didn't feel like it was taking anything out of me.

I thought I was great for staying away from the weather forecasts until yesterday. Got a right shock when I saw BBC predicting a high of 22 on Sunday.

Thanks for the good wishes guys. I'm glad some of you have enjoyed this log (so far ;) )

smmoore79: Funny you should mention that. I've always worn Kayanos (for training and racing) but once this marathon is done I'm going to move away from them. I'm not a big fan of the latest model. It was really just fear that stopped me from changing them in the run up to London. I've had some problems with my feet in the past so I'm going to invest a bit of time and effort in finding an alternative to suit me. To be honest if you've found trainers that you like and that suit your running style I'd stick with them for the sub 3 effort. There are way bigger gains to be made elsewhere rather than shaving a few ounces off the weight of your trainers - Just my 2 cents, others might differ.

aarrrgghhh, I had avoided weather forecasts so far (the flight problems were useful for distracting attention from this). Previous marathons I would have been checking them daily from about 5 weeks out! ;)

Looks like there's no point in me avoiding them from now on.

22 degrees, yikes! Don't think any of my training was done in weather that warm.

Fri 23rd April: 0 Rest. Hit the expo after work. You've seen one expo you've seen them all.

Sat 24th 2.2 miles @ 7:40 m/m Just a little shake down to make sure that my legs are still working.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. I was a little dubious at the start about keeping an online log but regardless of how the race goes tomorrow I'm glad I did. Bring it on.
