Christmas Terroir Group Buy

    Hi all,

I'm wondering if there'd be enough interest for a Christmas Group Buy? If there's enough interest I reckon we'd need to place the order on Monday the 7th so all requests would need to be in for Sunday at the latest.

Are you interest? Anyone like to run it that hasn't before? Any suggestions as to where you'd like to try?

    Interested.

I'm open to what other people are thinking. For me, I'm only interested in filter coffee.

Terroir could be an interesting place to order from (you remember the Esmeralda from there Mr M?). 49th was this time last year, and was one of the more successful one, could go there again. Tim Wendelboe is always great. I don't really mind to be honest, can get something interesting from most of the places we'd want to order from.

I don't know a whole lot about these guys, but I'll throw Phil & Sebastian into the ring for consideration.

I have family in Calgary whom i'm sure could collect and would ensure prompt shipping if the boys themselves were a little lax.

Regardless of roaster, I'd be interested - but again only for filter.

Hmmmm. I'm a little reluctant tbh, but only because I want guaranteed deliciousness over the Christmas period so I'm thinking of hitting up hasbean (though I note that their cachoiera is gone :().

How's about your mate at brown coffee company??

alternatively some of the SF coffee houses that REACTOR recommended were excellent i especially likes blue bottle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

Wouldn't have any interest in Brown.

    Sounds like fun. I'm interested.

I'd love to get my hands on another bag of Intelligentsia House Blend or their Celebration Blend. I only know 49th from coffeegeek sponsorship, but I'd like to try them at some point. Reactor has tried to talk me into Wendleboe. If a group buy brought the price down I might be persuaded.

I have already set myself a challenge for December - a 10% charity tax on coffee. So I guess the more coffee I drink, the more I give to charity!

    Anyway, let me know...

Great idea Mr.M. Count me in.

I really liked the coffee I got on our last group buy from Gimme! But I'm interested in anything interesting!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,587 ✭✭✭hshortt

Yes please, happy to be in and happy to coordinate and host too. As for selections, squaremile, intelligensia, 49th, or one of the Nordic ones that popped in the recommend list a while back.

    Cheers

I'm in - happy enough to try somewhere new or 49th.

T'would be nice to come to some sort of consensus. I don't think there's much point in ordering from Square Mile, their shipping is pretty cheap to here, kinda defeats the purpose of this.

    Suggestions so far...

    Terroir (US)
    49th (Canada)
    Tim Wendelboe (Norway)
    Phil & Sebastien (Canada)
    Brown  (US)
Intelligentsia (US) [we've done 3 group buys from them already]
Gimme (US) [that was last time]

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,272 ✭✭✭donnacha

Great idea Mr M, Terroir gets my vote out of the suggestions so far (not that I know anything about them). With the Dollar so weak I'm struggling to look anywhere but the US right now.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 10,440 Mod ✭✭✭✭Mr Magnolia

Yeah, the weak Dollar is a big plus regarding the US roasters/suppliers. We'd be best agreeing on one by tomorrow evening to allow a day or 2 for the specific orders.

    Great, if you're happy to.

    Thanks for offering.

    I'm in.
I enjoyed 46th but something new might be nice. Terroir or Tim Wendelboe look interesting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

I'd really like to go with Terroir, and I might have a contact to grease the wheels.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 427 ✭✭ch2008

If it was terroir, I would be in too ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

Yes, the word from Terroir is there would be a special offer available if we decide to go for that. It's an extremely generous offer.

Free expedited shipping or 15% discount - our choice.

I'd be more than happy to be donkey on this if we go this route.

Also he (Vince) has suggested some coffees which he thinks are particularly good at the moment.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 10,440 Mod ✭✭✭✭Mr Magnolia

    Hard to refuse that offer.

Some great info and detail on their site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

These are the coffees he thinks are particularly good at the mo.

    Rwanda Buf Mills
    La Soledad GUATEMALA
    Panama La Es.
2 Kenyan's: Ndiara/Mamuto or Kiamariga (all very good and very different)Ndiara is my favorite, but Mamuto is very refined, Kiamariga is very bright, lots of acidity if you like that.
    Konga Yirgacheffe
Matalapa El Salvador (slightly darker roast still light by most standards)
    El Descanso Colombia
    Daterra reserve

    Espresso:

    South Italian Daterra Farms
Satori - Blend of Ethiopian, Kenyan, Brazillian Terroir Coffees
    Gingerbread - new

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 427 ✭✭ch2008

1kg x Kenya, Ndiara. Thats me

I'm happy to be a collection point in the city if needed

Good luck with the opening - will be dropping in with the better half to have a nosy on Saturday. I hope you do a strawberries and cream frappacino. ;)

Pity - The Rwanda Buf has a next roast date of Monday 14th Dec which I assume means anything in stock was roasted last Monday.

I think you are reading the Kabuye Cooperative, Rwanda. I think the Buf is roasted daily.

Just spotted that now Reactor ...

    so can I please order:

    1 x 12oz Mamuto
    2 x 12oz Daterra North Espresso
    2 x 12oz Buf

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,309 ✭✭✭✭alastair

    1 x Ndiara
    1 x Daterra
    1 x Satori
    1 x Matalapa

    That'll do nicely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 271 ✭✭Clinker

I shouldn't really order anything as I've just got 1.5kg from hasbean (it always seems to happen like this!), but in the interest of coffee exploration I'd like

    12oz Ndiara
    12oz El Descanso

    (roasted whole bean, naturally!).

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 127 ✭✭Regular Latte

Sounds great! Please put me down for:

    1 x Rwanda Buf
    1 x Konga Yirgacheffe

    Thanks very much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

So far. ch2008 - you want a kilo - which is about 3x 12oz? Correct or mistake?

Could everyone just check their own to make sure no mistakes.

Also I just put in a guess price for Satori, as I can't find one anywhere.

As always, this is liable to VAT/duty, which will be allocated according to your proportion of the overall cost.

There is still an overhang on duty from the last buy so this can go against anything this time around assuming that everyone from last time around is in

btw if the satori looks good then could you add it to my order. Couldnt find info on the site

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 88 ✭✭arabica69

I'm in & thanks for making contact REACTOR. 12oz bags for me.

    1 x Rwanda Buf Mills
1 x each of the Kenyans
    1 x Matalapa El Salvador
1 x Sumatra Mandheling for the wife

it sounds interesting as an espresso blend, but I don't really know anything about it.

    Let me know.

Thanks for organising this. I'll take:

    1 x Ndiara
    1 x Konga Yergacheffe

Since I'm not a Dub, I'll pay extra for shipping to Limerick if that's OK, David?

    1 x Ndiara
    1 x Konga

    thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

Right, this is getting seriously big now. I might suggest, that it now be limited to anyone who hasn't already expressed an interest on this thread (or those involved in a couple of previous ones). I can see this heading towards 50 bags at this rate (still need orders from MrM, hshortt, Kannon?)

They don't do kg bags. So do you mean 1 bag of each of those (12oz = 340g) or do you want 3 bags of each?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 10,440 Mod ✭✭✭✭Mr Magnolia

    1 x 12oz ndiara $25.95
    1 x 12oz Mamuto, Kirinyaga $22.95
    1 x 12oz Konga $19.95
    2 x 12oz Gichathaini $15.95

    Please & thanks.

I do indeed. I'd you to thank for that one. Very tea like and huge on apricots. It didn't offend me but I wouldn't go it again, glad I tried it though. It's a huge order so let me know if you want the cash in advance. Close the orders whenever suits you, you're running with this one.

I think that's the point at which a line shall be drawn.

Can everyone check this is correct (for their order). This is what will be sent to Terroir. Any mistakes in this go unnoticed, tough titties. :D
