    Looks very interesting

Hey Tunney, Transition will be in the grass area beside the Papal Cross Car park. The Run will be a 2.6 k loop around the Fifteen acres paddock in front of the Papal Cross. The bike will be down the Kyber Road, left at Military Road and right past St Marys Hospital, on to Acres Road finishing at transition beside car park. We will have the map up in the coming days on www.aliveoutside.ie..

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,

    Alive Outside Team

The "left at Military Road" brings you up toward Wellington Monument.

Is the course the same as the Runways Summer duathlons?

Apologies, its a right on Military road and back on to Acres road.. thanks for that.. the bike course is the same, the run course is different..

    Cheers

    the run course is different..
As the summer duathlon run course is on tarmac (the cycle track in fact), it is not vulnerable to rain, so it would be a good choice.

Is the run course on grass? With any amount of rain it could be messy (and my runners are still nice and clean).

What is the planned start time?
    Is TI membership required?

    Looking forward to it!

Newbie race for me-don't think I'd class myself as experienced!

And if it is, is this covered in the entry fee?

TI membership is 50 euro a year.

Its safe to say its NOT covered by race entry and that a One Day Licence is required at least (about 15 euro)

Best bet just to join TI now.

Class - will be my first bike race/run everrrrrr

Anyone got a web site on good duathlon techniques , more so transition , the runs are quite small so do people change runners to bike shoes or race whole thing in runners

Tell me everything I need to know thanks

Hey there, everyone who races in the series will have to have either a 2010 TI membership card or a one day licence for each race. One day licences for Duathlon's cost €10 and are available on the TI site. One day licences are not included in the race fee.
In case of heavy rainfall preventing the grass course being used in we will have a contingency plan in place- the run will be around the football/ hurling fields - same as the Runways Summer series. So your runners will still be nice and clean..;)

    Thanks,

    hi alive outside,

I noticed you guys are running quite a few events on the Tri Irleland calandar next year.
Just wondering who you guys are - your website is under construction so no info there - are u behind one of the Dublin tri clubs? New name for Dublin dualthons crew ? A new event mgt company? Irishfit.ie? Outside magazine? a group of friends formed to run the events for non profit? Other?
Not just being nosey but one of your tris looks good and want some info on organisers before entering,

    thanks :)

Hi Tri head, thanks for the enquiry. Our splash page is pretty bare at the mo ,please bear with us while we get our site built.:o
We are a full time sports events company run by a bunch of sports mad enthusiasts. Our sister company has been running nationwide tag rugby events for the last 10 years, so we have plenty of experience in running large scale events.
Glad your interested in some of our tri's. Our races will be open to all abilities, shapes and sizes. If you have any other enquiries feel free to call us on 01 2147355.

Before people jump down the mans throat.

Races - whether they are run by companies, clubs or individuals have every right to be on the calendar and to be judged on value for money, quality of race organisation and merit - not some misguided idea that races must be non-profit events.

I personally don't care if Satan himself runs a race and uses the vast profits from it to purchase guns and munitions to fuel wars in far flung places. If the race is well run, good value and good fun - excellent.

From what I have heard the Alive Outside crowd have a good reputation and the events should be well run and at the price they are at should represent good value for money.

While I would love to do the races, its unlike I'll be able to. New year, new rules :)

(I have no connection to Alive Outside or any races)

Could somebody please confirm what time the Newbie Race for men starts at? It states on the website that competition starts at 8.30am but i'm sure the experienced people will start off with the newbie's getting a lowdown from the organisers?

Seen on runireland I would love to try this event.
It seems much better value to do all 3 and get yearly lisence.
This might seem like a stupid question but should I enter all 3 as newbie or just the first one?
Can I enter newbie to all 3 and change my mind afterwards?

Can I get a bit more definition on Newbie? Is it someone who has entered zero duath races before or??? I;d prefer to come high up in the noobs rather that struggle towards the back of the first group

    Good call

Cause I have never done this before here how I figure it will go

    2.6kms - 10 mins
T1 - 45mins between falling over trying to get my runner off fast and getting helmet etc on
    Bike leg 20mins
T2 50 mins no unclipping properly and taking down a million people with me
    2.6kms -11 mins

Myself and my friend are thinking about entering these as total newbies, more for a change to the training routine rather than anything else.

Will my crappy old mountain bike do me or will I be completely out of place with it?

Well i'm gonna do it on a mountain bike. Get some slick tyres though.

I did my first few duathlons (in the Phoenix Park too) on a fs mtb with slick tyres. I had a respectable finishing position. You'll be fine.

Hey there, race times for Duathlon series in Phoenix Park are as follows-

    9.00- Experienced Men & Women
    10.30- Newbie Women
    10.45- Newbie Men
    3 Separate Races from 08:30 to 12:30
Can you update the website to list the start times of each race, otherwise you might get people turning up for a 12:30 race.

On the issue of 1 day licenses, while it is surprisingly easy to get one online, are you at all concerned that you might lose out on entrants because you are not selling them on the day? Or, is this a new TI policy not to sell such licenses on the day? (I got my 2010 race license this morning so I'm okay).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22 Alive Outside

Hey there, updated splash page will be up today at 5pm.

Just to confirm race start times-
Experienced men and women race starts at 9 am
    Newbie women starts at 10.30
    Newbie men at 10.45.

Mountain bikes are more than welcome, as are high nellys with baskets, as are the last high end offering from Specialized!

Cheers, have a good christmas , see you on the 17th.

Hey there, this is TI's new policy on one day licences. For 2010 all one day licences have to be purchased before race day from the TI site.

I see that you also organise a sprint triathlon at Slane Castle on May 29h.
This is great. Where does the swim take place? Do you know the bike course yet? Thanks.

Darn. The cold weather since before Christmas has kept me indoors (I've only done a few turbo sessions in the shed) and unable to motivate myself to even enter these races. I might have to try to do the Punchestown duathlon the following week.

AliveOutside - any waiting list for this race? (This race is a more convenient location and time for me).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,251 ✭✭✭Andrewf20

I wonder if it will go ahead with the weather. More big snow fun on its ways this Sunday apparently. Ive signed up for the Jan and March Naas duatlons. Did one last year and loved it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22 Alive Outside

After speaking with An Garda Siochana and Office of Public Works in Phoenix Park, and taking into consideration the long-range weather forecast, we have decided to
postpone the Sunday 17th January race and reschedule it for
    Sunday 7th February.
While we are aware that the weather may clear up before next weekend, we have nevertheless made this decision now to secure the date of Sunday 7th February. Hopefully this will also allow you the time, when the weather improves, to get back out on your bike and go for a run before the race!

Obviously if the revised date does not suit you, we will give you a full refund. If you would like the refund, please
email us before Wednesday 13th January 2010 and we will refund your card. There is a large waiting list for this race so if we do not hear back from you by Wed 13th, we will assume you want to race on the revised date. Therefore there is a strict deadline of 5pm on Wed 13th Jan 2010 to be refunded your registration fee.

Triathlon Ireland have informed us that any One Day Licences bought for the 17th January will be automatically transferred to the new date so there is no need for you to do anything else. If though you cant participate on the 17th Jan, then Triathlon Ireland will refund you your One Day Licence fee. Contact them directly on 01 2764935.

Race #2 (Sun 28th Feb) and race #3 (Sun 28th March) in the Series are not affected by this postponement.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and look forward to welcoming you to the Phoenix Park, with hopefully better weather!, on Sunday 7th Feb.
Any queries please call us on 01 2147355 or mail us on info@aliveoutside.ie

    Kind regards

Got an e-mail about these today. The newbie race is 2k run, 8.6k cycle and 2 k run. Seems very short to me. I have registered for all three. If after the first race I feel like more of a challenge would I be able to do the experienced race on the other two days?

Just about to head up to this now, first duathlon and never on a bike in a race so i hope i don't bring down the pack :o

Sub 40 min for the newbie race. Delighted with that. roll on three weeks time.

Think I'll give the shorter distance another spin before trying the step up to the longer race.

4117 ---time doesn't matter too much to me as i never did one before and it's not really a set distance like running 10k's etc.Enjoyed it very much though and managed not to get creamed coming down the kyber. Was happier going up the hills and have never been on a bike in a competitive situation before so it was an experience. Was happy enough to pass 3-4 on the last run too and thought the event was really well ran.Only issue was the extreme cold at the start but that was not the organiser's fault.Looking forward to the next 2 :)

Still no full results? Want to compare myself to the other newbie's as my transition times seem very long.

Where the fup are the results?
I did them quicker by hand over the summer.

Well done to MyMojo for winning the female newbie category.

I had a good first run in 10th position knowing that I'd drop some places on the cycle but I had a disastrous cycle. Chain came off just after turning the first corner and it took me ages to get back on. I had some dodgy gear changes thereafter. Everybody seemed to be shuffling painfully on the second run but luckily I shuffled faster than a couple of people and overtook 3 or 4.

Can't wait for the next one. Don't want to make the same mistakes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 342 ✭✭GusherING

Just looking at the times for the experienced runners and the newbies. There's a big enough jump there in terms of times.

Still think I might give the longer course a go on the 28th.

Not sure if people have seen this, but extra places have been made available for the remaining two races. Got my application in there this morning for the 28th of feb

Having done both this & the Sportsmans Duathlon in Dundalk i would rather have the latter and a cheaper race also. Only my opinion though but the Sportsmans was very well organised and your chipped time was handed to you at the finish line.

Here is the body of the mail I recieved:
Due to our hugely successful first race in the Winter Duathlon Series (Phoenix Park) on 7th February, we are delighted to announce that over 50 extra places have been made available for the remaining 2 races in the Series.

    a) RACE 2 28TH FEB
To register for RACE 2 on 28th February, simply copy and paste this link into your browser:
    www.runireland.com/forms/winter-series-races-28th-february-2010-%E2%82%AC25

To register for RACE 3 on 28th March, simply copy and paste this link into your browser:
    www.runireland.com/forms/winter-series-races-28th-march-2010-%E2%82%AC25

The cost is €25 per person, per race.

Please note there are separate registration links for the races – so if you want to register for the two races, you will need to click on both links individually. There is limited availability and places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. If the link doesn’t work for you, it means all the places have been filled so email info@aliveoutside.ie to go back on a waiting list.
Please note that for insurance reasons, to take part in either race, you will also need to be either a Triathlon Ireland Member (€50) or purchase a One Day License (€10). Full details on www.triathlonireland.com
Looking forward to seeing you in the Phoenix Park over the next few weeks.

Maybe it has sold out again?

Yep, according to this earlier post it's 9am for experience men and women.

A nice early start then. At least I'll be home nice and early to do something with the rest of the day.
