Ive havent heard anything about this game and im preety suprised , for the past couple of days ive being reading alot about this game and seen gameplay footage on youtube, Avp looks like its gonna be a impressive title for 2010 , Its being made by the guys who did the pc version which from what i read got preety impressive reviews and someone people are still playin it to this day . in the single player you can be Aliens , Predator or marines and all have a different story , theres also an 18 player online mode , 4 player co op , you can be the 3 characters online aswell , whats being confirmed so far as of online modes theres Deathmatch, a mode where theres 9 marines vs 1 controlled alien and if he kills you , you become the alien aswell and keeps workin like that until theres one guy left , theres also a predator mode ,

anyways what you guys think seems like an interesting title anyways to look out for im surely gonna get it being a fan of the movies

I can't wait for it. The AvP games on the PC were excellent especially the multiplayer modes.

It certainly looks good and is one of those games I am looking forward to. However, Rebellion have not had a fantastic recent record.

If they can get the balance right in mulitplayer and make sure that the singleplayer campaigns are a decent lenght, then it will be a first-day buy from me. Loved AVP on PC.

I agree Balance has to play out very well , but just thinking about being the marines though they are just food , imagine if the badass players can hold there ground :P

Posted a good video on the multiplayer today.

It does look good but Edge kinda dismissed it in their latest issue.

Never played the older ones but when I was younger I always wanted to!

I cannot stand Edge. The most pretentious, holier-than-thou garbage held up as how games should be reviewed. While I like the attempt at more sophisticated reviews, I will stick with GamesTM for train journeys.

    Anyway, nice video. Thanks.

I agree with you Otacon they don't even go by their own reviews so why should we?

They slated Mass Effect and then two months later had it in their most played section. SLATED fallout 3 scoring it 7/10 and then put it in their top 20 best games available today article. Also this month they gave Dragon Age 5/10.......and don't even get me started on the unbelievably pretentious letters at the back of the mag.
Sigh, yet I keep buying it.

Saw that in the most recent issue, thankfully I didn't waste my money on the magazine, a colleague had it and gave it to me for the train home.

They're articles can be good though but their reviews are all over the place and they will never admit they are wrong.

Yeah, mutliplayer rocked. Best was when I was playing 1 on 1 with a friend. He was a facehugger, I was a marine. My motion sensor went off and it was slowly getting louder. Boop boop. Boop boop. Boop boop. Boop boop. Then it just went silent. I didn't know what to do so I legged it and just started shooting all over the place. The ****er still got me.

I played the pc version years ago, great game. Always loved that whining sound from the marines gun. Rang Gamestop and they are getting the hunters edition in, might pick it up if the price is right. The chap said TBC

Hopefully they wont neglect those of us without Live, as this game looks class, but if it has short single player campaign then Ill probably avoid it.

    Ditto :(

Edit - Looks like the problem is server overload:
Hands up who downloaded the Aliens vs Predator demo on your PC when it was released yesterday? Yeah, loads of you. That's the reason why you might have been having problems joining and finding games online, as Rebellion cited “unprecedented demand” as the cause for the server issues.

Fear not though, for the studio has been working hard to patch things up. Speaking via a post on the Sega forums (through community rep 'CaptainHaddock'), it announced that later in the day the issue was corrected for the PC version by way of a Steam patch.

“While this issue did not affect the Xbox 360, we are with SEGA's assistance investigating reports of a similar nature on the PlayStation 3 and working flat out on a solution,” reads the statement.

“The full game features the ability to browse for and create games, but for the purposes of simplicity the demo was limited to matchmaking, alongside the ability to set up groups with friends which mitigated yesterday's issues for many.”

No time frame was given for a PS3 fix, but at least they're addressing it so soon after the demo's release.

I played the demo and it was so bad i cancelled my pre order. Reviews are starting to appear and its getting very average scores. Dont think this will be what anyone is looking for. I had such high hopes for this, fingers crossed c. marines does come out.

Dude its a poxy Demo, it shows very little of the actual game. If you were buying it for the Multiplayer alone then your a fool. Its all about the 3 single player campaigns, and maybe a small amount of multiplayer after youve completed the Campaigns -_- So dude relaxe

Dunno why anyone expected anything else. Rebellion are rubbish.

Single player aspect is getting slated too though.

Deleted the demo and there is no hope of me buying the full game. If they couldn't get this right and fixed within a few days then what hope for the full release.

I wouldnt read much into that review, he complained about the stupidest things

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the demo, I already have the hunter edition prebooked but I'm really thinking about changing my mind. I really wanted this game to be decent.l

Out of the 2 demos BC2 wins hands down. Would rather spend the money on that to be honest. I may just rent AVP when its released and go from there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,366 ✭✭✭Star Bingo

still the demo won't find match.. i may never get to play this! never did really trust anything w/ the SEGA tag on PS systems anyhow..

having said that, the campaign should be reasonable enough - this n BC2 would be reluctant purchases. but probably purchases nonetheless.. pity. bring on Heavy Rain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,366 ✭✭✭Star Bingo

got a crack at the demo. not up to much - but it's not supposed to be the focus, and the result is poor. like so many FPS's tbh. the focus is the campaign n i'm at odds with why they dropped a MP beta, leave that to the BF's of this world. which itself is a little disappointing as it happens.. if you ask me - bein expected to specialize in the department after so many years of focusing on it.. anyways i'll pick this up on friday. strictly for the campaign. and maybe BC2 when it drops for that too.. -which is odd.

Vid i found of the first 9 or so mins of the predator mission looks just as bad as i thought it would be. Glad i cancelled my order dissapointed that this game is so bad, i really wanted it to be good

I don't know why anyone would buy an online favoured game, for anything but that.

9 hours is still more then a hell of a lot of games i cleared, most of which didn't even have any online.

Online's where you get your moneys worth with games..... unless it's Fallout 3

Well if the online which is utter garbarge is meant to be the selling point then that doesnt say much for this game.

    look at this story

    http://ps3.gamespy.com/playstation-3/aliens-vs-predator-2009/1070294p1.html

dud package all round then. much as they tried to make this game and its special editions look cool

i hate this. from IGN UK:

"A lack of iron-sights or crouch mode, the inclusion of boss battles across all three campaigns and a frame-rate that's not as generous as most other games give Alien vs. Predator a distinctively old school flavour. Conversely this does work in the game's favour – combine the vintage mechanics with the iconic arsenal and you've got a game that's full of rollicking action, the unabashed nature of which captures perfectly the spirit of the films that it's inspired by."

Gamespot review, he calls it right

Been playing it for about 2 hours now, first off, the bad points:

Graphics are very meh, some good faces, but its no MW2, hell its not even Bioshock 1
Screen tearing all over the place in the PS3 version, gah.
Melee combat is **** ,especially as the Alien, run towards someone, mash L1 and R1 until they're dead, you get really cool, stealthy kills but they're one in every 20.
The "blocking" as a Marine, so an Alien with razor sharp claws and huge strenght comes lunging at you, and the safest form of defence is to press L1 and R1 together to make your arms fly up in front of your face, this apparently defends agains claws and sharp teeth, stupid!

    The Good
    The sound: awesome throughout
Playing as a Predator is cool
The guns all sound like they should
Good atmoshpere in the Marine section, lots of falsa alarm scares and slowly walking through corridors lobbing flares around for any bit of light
Being a Predator in multiplayer, sat on a high perce while the other players are bricking it looking for you is fantastic fun, then picking them off with your shoulder cannon, good times :D

Overall its very meh, will keep me entertained until Heavy Rain next week, HMV are giving away a free copy of AVP2 on blu-ray if you buy it there, sh1te movie but hey a free blu-ray is a free blu-ray

That would make me NOT buy it in HMV. That's basically them asking you to take their rubbish home with you!

Ha, true I asked if i could get something else instead (used to work there) and they said no as they'll be stuck with dozens of copies of it, its basically a chance to get rid of all stock of it

    +1

Totally agree with what you have said, it's not what I was expecting and the single player mode is very short. If I had a choice of either this game or the old AvP series for PC I'd go for the PC versions.

I had a cracking multiplayer match earlier two teams of 3, one of each species on each team, we had fun using our Marine to lure the other team into an open area, then I was shoulder cannoning the sh1te out of them while the Alien guy was running about finishing them off, Survival mode is pants though, just standing in one small corridor killing waves of aliens, they could have given you sentry guns to keep maintaining or reloading or something, and it would have been a cool multiplayer option

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,366 ✭✭✭Star Bingo

reviews completely put me off this. looked at the campaign on youtube, said yeah i could probably tap that.. but passed on picking it up today. i have nothing whatsoever to play at the moment. :(

By the sounds of it you only gave one of the two maps a go, and tbh i didn't think the corridor map was great myself, but tried the other one after and it was epic, you've standing in the middle of some ruins with only light coming through the top and nowhere to back up against.

I'll be getting the DLC straight away as there are two more survivor maps in that(bringing it up to 4 from 2) and two more regular maps

Loving it so far, the DM's are what you expect tbh, but Infestation, Predator Hunt and Survivor mode can give some epic games :pac:

the demo let us sample that thrilling aspect.

back with the impression this is a daft game.. there's always the majority of a certain age who once they own a copy it can do no wrong, combine with featured kewl monfsters that'll always appeal to said crowd n you've got horrendously biased fanboyisms. but i've finally seen opinions from some that admit to what seems 'input lag' on the unintuitive controls, rubbish graphics and story. from what i gather the movies ruined the legend and the game follows suit.

found a copy of Alone in the Dark i forgot i even had - 60% incomplete, not a bad game actually. this'll tide me over some til HEAVY RAIN
