that's all I have to say on the matter tbh. McCaw wasn't even in the picture IMO

I would have thought it obvious since it wasn't announced after the Ireland match...

who cares - the award means nothing, maybe if we actually beat New Zealand once in our entire history our whinging might have some credence

Joke BOD did not get it.

    H-Cup
6 Nations Grand Slam (try in each match bar 1)
    No defeat this year

    Amazing

for team of the year, maybe, cos we certainly deserved a shout there.

But O'Driscoll won everything in front of him this year, save the lions tests, and even then he was a stand out player.

In contrast McCaw has suffered injury and defeat this year

Club has nothing to do with it unfortunately.....not to say he's been found wanting in the internationals!

Haha, the more i think about it......he really is the Prince of Thieves....:)

Joke decision. The IRB player of the year award has lost all credibility. I'm starting my own player of the year award. Congratulations BOD well deserved.

guess what, Tana Umaga was on the deciding panel,
BOD has been robbed, what a joke.

    link or its not true..

The nominees were selected by the IRB Awards independent panel of judges, comprising former internationals with over 500 Test caps between them. Will Greenwood, Gavin Hastings, Raphaël Ibanez, Francois Pienaar, Agustin Pichot, Scott Quinnell, Tana Umaga, Paul Wallace and convenor John Eales watched over 60 hours of action from 46 matches, awarding points to the three players they thought stood out in each match.

    bastardooooooooooo

Hard to argue with that awards panel to be honest, full of top names.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,410 ✭✭✭twinytwo

that can all go take a running leap.. richie was out for ages drico scores wat 8 tries in 10 games best 13 in the world by a mile... complete and utter bs...

    Hard, but not impossible.

Lets face it, it was down to either Du Preez or BOD. Or at least it should have been.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,848 ✭✭✭bleg

congrats to mr. Mccaw. Unlucky BOD. Move on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,249 ✭✭✭Stev_o

I very much doubt he cares in the slighest.

but what has richie done this year that would put him against drico or duPreez??... nothing as far as i could see

    yeah. That much is true.

    But, McCaws record this year

    18 July v Australia at Auckland 22-16
26 July v South Africa at Bloemfontain 19-28
2 Aug v South Africa at Durban 19-31
    22 Aug v Australia at Sydney 19-18
12 Sept v South Africa at Hamilton 29-32
    19 Sept v Australia at Wellington 33-6
    31 Oct v Australia at Tokyo 32-19
    8 Nov v Wales at Cardiff 19-12
    22 Nov v England at London 19-6

afaik these decisions were made pre: AI. So he has played 6, lost 3, and stood out in none.

George Hook is right! Awards like this are a joke!

Sure Westlife have about 7 mantlepieces full of awards!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

If Du Preez got the award, it would be understandable.

The IRB HQ is in Dublin, anyone want to organise a protest?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,410 ✭✭✭twinytwo

not that im surprised though... can add it too the long list of times we get ****ed over in every aspect of sport

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,146 ✭✭✭Morrisseeee

    Wow what a joke......
.....apparently Henry was on the panel aswell, he had the deciding vote ! ie. another daylight robbery
On the bright side, I don't think it will bother BOD, he hasn't room on his mantlepiece, ie. with the other trophies/medals/honours :p

cant believe McCaw got it. I thought du Preez and BOD were miles ahead of the competiton especially as McCaw has been injured a lot of this year.

THey mentioned on RTE today that Ireland have won 41 (or so) matches out of 59 which BOD has captained.

Brussow was the stand out openside this season also.

farce of a decision. appears to just be a politics thing, they gave Kidney coach, so spread the other awards around. McCaw wasn't even the 7 of the year.

I had just been thinking the same thing. He was behind Brussow, & arguably Pocock.

Pocock had a quiet enough 3N he wasn't as good as we'v soon him on this tour, but agree completely about Brussow

Blessing in disguise, now he wont suffer from post-player-of-the-year blues like shane williams and bryan habana

    True,
The thing that bothers me is not that BOD didn't get it, but that it went to a player I think (and many others) is undeserving.

handsomecake, are you suggesting that McCaw deserved the award this year over BOD/Fourie Du Preez?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,691 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Might I suggest setting up lots of Facebook groups to deal with this injustice. They are usually very successful

mccaw deserves to be nominated every year he has played.
yeah i think he has been super this year.

and for all the people highlighting umagas name in the panel..............there were more northern hemisphere judges then southern.umaga doesnt decide it on his own.

you have to be kidding, he has been average at best by his standards. As have New Zealand. It's a farce, especially since he has won it before. Of the shortlist he should have come 5th or 6th.
