Its an age old cliche but really girls, why do you ask for mens opinions on things only wanting to hear what you want to hear?

This evening, me and the missus were shopping, she decides she wants to buy a pair of those tight, leather look pants, she tries them on, likes them (i dont see her try them on) and decides to buy them, now she asks my opinion on them

Situation 1: I dont like them, not just on her or these pair, but in general, I think the leather/leggings things that women are wearing these days are horrid, but thats just me. I've already said a few times they dont do anything for me and I'm not a fan, just in general conversation and while we were on other shopping trips, do i tell her I dont like these?

Situation 2: I dont like them, but I tell her I do, this means I've lied to my girlfriend, told her something she wanted to hear without having the balls to give an honest opinion about something, knowing that at some stage it'll come out that i dont like them and it will turn into a row about how i wasnt honest.

Being the idiot that I am, I chose situation 1, now not only have I made her feel silly for buying something i dont like (in the grand scheme of things it shouldnt matter as long as she's happy wearing them) but I've inadvertently called her fat, made her think I've lied about anything else I've said looked good on her (even though she usually looks fab in everything) and she's in a strop with me, sigh, so for future reference lads, when a woman asks how something looks, even if its hideous, lie through your teeth , its just what they want to hear and it makes life so much easier

This is not what the ladies lounge is for.
