Anyone watch the sensationalist rubbish on Sky News regarding Tiger Woods' spot of whiplash? When i turned it on i panicked. I thought THE greatest sportsman of our teams was "seriously injured" in a car accident.
Sad thing is i actually believe that Sky are disappointed that it has turned into a non-event.

The way they were talking, tone etc. had me very worried. Then I remembered it was Sky News.

Slowly morphing into a UK FOX 'News'

It will never be as bad as FOX News but it is by far the worst 'news' channel on this side of the Atlantic.

Naah ITV news is far worse tbh

Actually, Sky News is a sister-station of FOX News. Both abysmal, sensationalist news. Sure I thought the Shuttle Programme had been cancelled with the way they were talking after a launch. A small piece of foam had come off harmlessly and NASA were investigation.

Their news channel shut down a few years ago.

Yes. All owned or partly owned by Rupert Murdochs News Corp

I got a Tweet alert from the Irish Times with the headline "Tiger Woods "seriously injured" in car crash"

It then gave me a link to the article that said he was released and will be doing an opening next week

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 290 ✭✭weepee

I think he may have had the wrong 'driver' !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,718 ✭✭✭✭JonathanAnon

A lot of the media had him down as "seriously injured" and "badly injured".. so you cant really blame sky news completely .. but they do always err on the side of sensationalism... About an hour after his agent had confirmed that Woods was okay, they STILL had the headline saying that he was seriously injured....

I was on the way home earlier, when someone sent me a text, saying that "Tiger Woods was seriously injured". I very nearly crashed.

Christ it seems even Digital Spy is less sensationalist than Sky News now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,834 ✭✭✭dloob

Sky News have to keep reporting the same thing over and over 24hrs a day.
So if anything happens it gets wall to wall sensational coverage.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

The channel has gone down hill badly, as someone else said it's the tv version of The Sun....in fact, i strongly suspect stories that appear in The Sun are reported on Sky News just to sell more papers....as if Sky is just a promo tool to sell papers.

I have a serious beef with S N....it used to be ace, the days they broadcast the OJ and Louise Woodward trail, when hard news comes in like big events they get ok....but these clowns covered the Jade Goody funeral!!!!!!

The presenters have little credibility save for a few.

Don't be too hard on them, they had extensive coverage of the muppets version of bohemian rhapsody all day today. :pac:

Have you seen ITV's main evening news? It is great to see that ITN can provide entirely different news for different channels, C4 is miles ahead of it.

I was talking about news channels, not news bulletins as you can see from what I have quoted below. I have no care or want to watch ITV for my news.

Fox is just scary, although the lookers to dogs ratio is quite high. Truly insular and right winged bias crap. As previous posters have said Sky is fast descending into Fox UK. Trivial gimmicks, just dross. Yet it seems to wins awards every year, Murdoch must be the king of kick backs.

The headline flashing up on the huge horrific Sky News screen in Pearse Street station last night was "Susan Boyle pictured taking out garbage"

That did it for me...from now on I'm only watching Francis Wilsons weather reports on Sky!

Watch C4 or Al Jazzera for quality news reporting

    What did you expect?

Fox - Owned by News Corporation which is controlled by Rupert Murdoch.
Sky - Owned by News Corporation, which is controlled by Rupert Murdoch.

Sky News = The Sun (but with moving pictures)

OutFoxed was on RTE 2 awhile back...twas interesting, but you could also say the documentary was also very unbalanced and edited a certain way to trash Fox.

    Sky News = tabloid tv.

^ but it's a valid point....the news channels don't hire ugly people, they probably have data to prove good looking people draw in more viewers.

a bit unnecessary, espescially considering he's right

I think the OP poster used humour to make the valid argument that good looking presenters are hired, they use older more experienced presenters with a young good looking counterpart.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,986 ✭✭✭✭mikemac

Me too, I was shocked to see (possibly) the greatest sportsman alive "seriously injured"
    What a load of hype!

Don't even remind me how they are the Sun newspaper were dragging out the McCann case months after everyone else dropped it

    Sky News is trash

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,634 ✭✭✭✭Richard Dower

And they are movie stars!...how many Fox movies have featured Sky news presenters?....Independence Day, Volcano, Mission Impossible....and others!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,817 ✭✭✭ynotdu

Ollie i absoulutly Loved the three Clinton Video's,always good to see FOX squirm!:D

I wish posters who plagerised My comments from another thread would at least credit it,or the various broadcast forums on boards will become as tabloid as the channels!:pac::pac::pac:

God FOX is DIRE and Sky news a shambles, dumbed down so much its 'loyal' viewers only stay because of the old familour voices and 'some' presenters who are trying to salvage something of SN's golden days.

Did you coin the "Sky News is The Sun"?....'cause i mentioned in my posting it was mentioned by another poster/thread!

Sky News is really just a microcosm of TV in general. Apart from the BBC (and perhaps CH. Four), 90% of TV is basically crap.

You can't even get any respite from your local video shop because most of what's on offer there is also crap!
    All IMHO, of course!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,953 ✭✭✭granturismo

Their weather forecast is the only decent one on any channel. Unlike the other UK based stations, Sky News acknowledge that the 26 counties exist and give a decent forecast; the Irish stations give a much less accurate forecast and poor 3-5 day forecast.

It depends on the Movie and how is producing it!

IMO 90% of TV is crap at the moment and Hollywood movies also have that ratio. But then I am going off topic.

Touché! I wasn't overly satirical was I? Not PC or in the least bit subtle? That is probably spending too much time on AH. :o Sorry!

But, you only have to look at who Fox (and over here, at Sky Sports News) employ (particularly the females) to see it has nothing to do with their ability to read auto-cue and everything to do with what they look like.

    Why is that Mossy? because he oppossed the Iraq war?and after the invasion was complete amongst the wreckage of the shock and awe tactics amazingly only documents linking him to Saddam giving him 'brown envelopes' to speak for the other sides point of view were found,with camera's present,how unlucky for him:){how conveniant for Blair&Bush}

    Or was it because he had the balls to defend himself against the Republican dominated congress farce of an investigation into the whole affair{and made mincemeat of them!}

I spent the day in bed with the flu watching Sky News the other day and they were waiting breathlessly from 9am in the morning for 12 hours for a bridge to collapse in England, it was so pathethic it was funny.

    Sky News = Repeaters.
Repeat something enough times and it become a fact, just ask Rupert Murdoch.
    Chewing gum for the eyes.
Breaking News: David Beckham is suffering from chronic constipation, world cup place in jeopardy, leading bowel doctor to be interviewed shortly, blah blah blah.

    Glazers Out!

As someone who doesn't watch sky News channel, and has not done so for a number of years now due to its piss poor and sensationalist reporting, I am left wondering why so many in this thread seem to watch the channel and then complain about how they dislike it!

Would anyone who watches the channel, and then professes to dislike it, care to comment on why they do that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,577 ✭✭✭lord lucan

I still enjoy watching Sky News. I've always been a news fiend, could watch the news for hours on end. I agree that Sky News has become more tabloid in nature, particularly over the last couple of years. One of my favourites used to be Kay Burley but lately she's turned into an out and out bully, harassing interviewees in cringeworthy fashion. I find myself reaching for the mute button a lot these days.

I like that Sky will run breaking news on reliable information, unlike BBC who wait for confirmation from AP/Reuters etc. I don't like that there's an undertone of almost glee at natural disasters, sky flooding(no pun intended) areas with journos in waders and wellys. The comment a few posts previous is very true sadly about waiting for a bridge to crumble.

My favourite programme on sky news right now is SkyNews.com,an interesting twist on the news online.

You aren't going to paint me with that brush. Anytime I have ever heard him I have found him to be a pig.

I too oppose the war in Iraq.

    I also watch Al Jazeera.

I don't watch Celebrity Big Brother.

You have failed in your attempt to ridicule. You should get used to some people not sharing the same likes and dislikes as yourself.
