Anyone else having serious problems getting into games ??

Last couple of days have been brutal for me . Id say 40% of the games I get into break down in some way . Also I rarely get into a game thats just starting if I do get into one the game is nearly over . One game I got into .....I basically ran 3 steps and it was over

What nat type are you and how long has thing being happening?

sorry forgot to mention .......PS3 Eircom
I've the same setup and have found things to be absolutely horrendous recently. On Eircom 7mb too.

Every single f*cking game I'm dumped into a match that is almost over and onto a team that is f*cking losing. The very, very odd time I'll get a game going that is just starting, but that must be maybe 1/100 or so.

Really bad experience, the match making is genuinely worse than on MW1, and that is a hard thing to accomplish. It takes a while to find a game, then when it finally does it's because someone jumped off a team of f*cking retards.

Then there's the "host migration" that is just horrendous. The Xbox version used to do it really quick, I find that probably 90% of the time it happens it can't find a suitable host and dumps the game, or will find a host and stall for ages or never even start the game.

Very, very offputting, Combined with the shite maps, I've yet to have a "good" experience playing MW2 MP. The actual gameplay, perks etc is astounding but the matchmaking and maps are just awful.

MW1 is still finding games in a second, be they already going or new games, MW2 seems to be taking minutes to get going. Load of bollocks!

Well is your nat type set 1,2 or 3. If you live anywhere were there was flooding i know internet was affected somehow.

My NAT was type 3, went to change it tonight by following the instructions http://www.wiffy.ie/forums/gaming-pc-xbox-360-ps3/5288-ps3-perfect-online-guide-netopia-eircom-router.html

I'm now finding that if I try to make it a static IP, which I have set up on the router for, it now says UPnP not available and NAT type Failed.

If I do it automatically, however, it just goes back to being Nat 3 but with UPnP working.

    Any ideas?

what NAT type does it tell you your on from in game lobby menu
    NAT: strict/moderate/open ?
you can get nat3 from strict to moderate
you need nat 1/2 to get "open"

you should keep trying. what does it fail on btw? is it saying incorrect password or something?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭Rb

@ScissorPaperRoc : Netopia router from Eircom.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭Rb

The above video worked for me (although UPnP still doesn't work), Nat2 wasn't a go-er though.

I had a lot of trouble with this router.

Basically, Eircom don't support UPnP with the PS3 on this router. So NAT 2 isn't an option.

So it's either NAT 3 or NAT 1.

I had great difficulty in getting NAT 1. Well the solution was quite simple, but it took quite a lot of hours trying to figure out what was going wrong.

To cut a long story short I upgraded the firmware to version 7.8.0r7. When I did this, the PPPoE finally connected, and I got NAT 1. Some sort of conflict seemed to arise where it was disconnecting frequently, but I changed an Xbox in the house from PPPoE to UPnP, and this problem seems to have fixed itself.

Other people have managed to connect their PS3s without updating firmware, so I'm not sure if it's necessary, but it worked for me.

    It says

    Obtain IP address : Failed

no reason , and now I can't get online at all

I just noticed something while I was in "internet connection settings" . My signal strenght is 45% !!! Is that not very low

Its saying the password is incorrect now ?

Exactly the same here. I tried that PPPOE thing, but theres some kind of IP address mix-up and both PS3 and my laptop keep dropping connection. So had to go back to the default setup.

Yes lots of connection problems. NAT is strict, instructions to change it are for D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, and seemingly every other company in the world except for Zyxel. Zyxel doesn't appear to want to change (not to mention even bother to make 64-bit drivers for Windows 7).

I would advise people to never buy anything form Zyxel - useless in my experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭EGriff

I used this guide to set up a static IP and forward some ports. Still says nat type strict in MW2 but connects a lot faster, not getting kicked during host migration now either.

    http://www.wiffy.ie/forums/gaming-pc-xbox-360-ps3/5288-ps3-perfect-online-guide-netopia-eircom-router.html

Its for that netopia router you get from eircom. I'm with imagine and it worked fine.

Sigh. I have a Zyxel router (660HW-D1) - I've forwarded the correct ports, and opened the firewall as necessary, and I have NAT: Open. I almost guarantee the right person can get this working on any router that does address translation.

Is anyone having party problems? I try set up an in game party and whenever it goes beyond 3 or 4 people some of the people get dropped out before a game starts or dont even get into the game lobby. it is extremely annoying.

    +1

On eircom I had a netgear router that has UnP compatabilty and if you could'nt be bothered putting all the correct ports in then just put the PS3 in DMZ on any netgear router.

Also, I note many of you with 7meg eircom on this thread. Have a peak at the broadband forum under "Tech" and you will see that the general concensous is 7meg from eircom has terrible ping times. Your ping time is one of the more essential parts of your connection to get right.

Test your ping on www.speedtest.net on your PC with nothing else on the network. It should be less than 50ms. MW2 seems to allow up to 100ms but after that you will get a lot of lag and get dumped out of games.

Just because you had good connection on 3meg eircom does not mean your 7meg will be good.

Also having connection problems, matchmaking takes a looong time, is laggy, and games are rarely full. Maybe one match in four will work flawlessly. Also eircom, but Nat Type 1. Can someone explain the x/25 number and other matchmaking criteria in the top right of the lobby screen?

Well , I have since changed from Nat 3 to Nat 1 (open) and I actually had to turn the PS3 off there because it was lagging so much .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 545 ✭✭✭ravydavygravy

I read in some other threads/forums that eircom lines (and I assume others) have bad latency on them. Maybe these tools will show you if you have potential issues? Heres my results to the Dublin server - I don't often have major issues with lag, but if I'm in a game where my link drops to 1 or 2 bars, I just leave and join a new game - normally solves the issue.

Post your results if they seem bad?

EDIT: Actually some above already posted about this - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=63210815&postcount=29

Is NTL supposed to be any better for gaming than Eircom? I'll be switching at the end of the month to their 10mb package with tv stuff so would be useful to know what to expect!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 dtrocks_6

i was with ntl when i lived in town(galway),i was on nat 2,and could host games no problem, moved out and went to eircom, finally got nat 2 with neotopia router, but when i try to host a game in MW2 it says strict (its only hosting thats strict not the connection). I think it is to do with the router as i have tried everything, but it automatically worked with ntl, they use netgear router. But not saying its gonna work for you.My friend got a BT router for his eircom broadband and after serious work,is now able to host. I'm thinking about getting that 10mb ntl package too
