I haven't "ditched" my xbox but I did buy a PS3 recently. I wanted to play Uncharted 2 and I was sick of paying a Live subscription fee so free online play was a major factor!

I went the other way, I bought an Xbox a couple of months back. Still playing my PS3 though, so I haven't really 'switched'.

Haven't switched, still have the 360, merely added a PS3 slim to my entertainment arsenal! :D

yea me too, i used to have a 360, now i have a ps3 and 360, more entertainment for me.

It really annoys me when people wont buy one simply because they own the other (fair enough if u cant afford it). But going about saying the other is rubbish because just annoys me, both of them rock and I'm luck to have the 2 of em :)

Correct. On till you have pressed one button on you're remote to switch between consoles you have not lived. You are barely even and inanimate object.:D

    Horrible poll tbh.

I'm a bit of an Xbox 360 nut, but I'm getting a PS3 at christmas. It's a combination of the new lower price point and games like Uncharted 2, LittleBigPlanet, Valkyria Chronicles and MGS4. I'm not going to be playing them anywhere else. Having a blu-ray player will be nice too :)

I can honestly say now that I'll never buy a game on the PS3 that I can get on the xbox though. The controller is the main reason, and achievements to a lesser extent. Really excited to play Uncharted 1 and 2 I gotta admit!!

    Im thinking about about it
I have an xbox 360 since around the launch week. But i bought an elite when resi 5 came out.

After looking into new games coming out on ps3 I made the decission that i needed both! lol.

I think the ps3 exclusive games are amazing. its the only reason i got it, I loved infamous, MGS, little big planet, killzone 2. But the game I bought the ps3 for is MAG. When i heard of this game i was like "i need a ps3" but then they changed the realease date! Also the blu-ray!
I got my ps3 on ebay for 200 quid.
But i still love my xbox.

If I had the money I'd probably pick up a PS3 soon enough, the exclusives on it I want to play are starting to pile up. And next time the xbox breaks I'd have something to do.

I've also actually never used one . Can't go through the entire lifespan of a console without even having a go on one.

Started with ps3 and plan to pick a 360 up after exams finish. So i'll have the best of both worlds. ;)

Yea me too, for multi-platform games, x-box is the way to go. The controller is much better :)

That said I dont have xbox live so if the game had multiplayer, I might be swayed to get it on playstation... even though I dont really play online much at all, its still nice to have the option

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,022 ✭✭✭NOGMaxpower

Sooo lots of people who have both.. = switch acording to the post.

however I'll add a poll "i have both"

I'd assuming you wouldn't ditch your XBOX just because of the PS3....

Common theme though, free online gaming and the lower price of a ps3 seems to be the trend.

I got a PS3 a few weeks ago, have an xbox for a few years. Gotta say i'm a little disappointed by the PS3. The menu system and the store and all that seem really dull compared to the 360. I like the clunk clunk flick flick sounds from the xbox when u move through the menus.

Uncharted 2 and killzone are great thought.

The Xbox seem to be getting some good exclusives lately as well as earlier releases. However, the controller would be a big issue for me. MUCH prefer the playstation controller. Free online play and Blu ray is a big bonus too.

Completely agree. Any multiplats will be bought for the 360. Far better online IMO and the controller is much better for shooters. Bought the PS3 to play Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 and have loved both Uncharted games but not a whole lot more I want to play on it. GOW3 will get a bash in a few months but not a whole lot more.

In January my 360 broke for the 4th time so I invested in a ps3 while i waited for it to be fixed. I'd say I've only turned on the xbox around 10 times since. I find the ps3 much better, it's quiet, free online, better control pads, better menu system & in my opinion, a better online store (much easier to find stuff than on xbox). Also MGS 4, LBP & Killzone 2 are much better than xbox exclusives.

should be a 4th option for those who have both, I have my elite for music games like guitar hero, I initially both the PS3 for Blu-Ray, but got into gaming on it with GTA IV and COD WAW as most of my friends have PS3's I got the games for that, I heard rumours in the press this week that Sony are thinking seriously about charging for PSN next year, that might have an impact on the take up of PS3's in the market. Lets hope they don't charge.

I have both but my trusty old 360 died due to ring of death, ended up getting a dvi adapter for my PS3 HDMI cable and run both the console and my pc off the same monitor.

I moved from Nintendo to the 360 last September and then to the PS3 in March. I wanted to get rid of my XBOX before it died. I am enjoying the quiet games but I still think there is a better selection of games for the XBOX. For alot of the games, the picture quality looks better on the XBOX. The PS3 is improving though.

The PS3 controller was a pain at first. I used to get cramp when playing for over 30 minutes. Who has hands that small. The Gioteck Real Triggers http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gioteck-RG1-Real-Triggers-PS3/dp/B001AW156U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1259146971&sr=8-1 compleatly sorted that out.

Why bother buying blu rays? ps3 media server plays mkv files :)

I have an xbox a few years and recently bought a PS3. I dont do the teenage "my console is better than yours" nonsense.

I got RROD on my xbox a few months ago and it was replaced with the latest Jasper model. Its as silent as the PS3. (I have a slimline PS3)

I just swapped with my nephew my xbox 360 for PS3 (40gb) model. So far I'm loving it. So much quieter than my xbox. My xbox 360 was one of the first ones to come out (and survived :)) It was so damn loud. I tried TVersity but the fan was just too loud to be able to watch anything. So the PS3 is so much better in that regards. I'm not a hardcore gamer at all so only realized that online play is free so another big bonus. TVersity works great on it over wireless network.

I quoted the above statement because I didn't realize it could play mkv files. I used mkv2vob to convert a couple of files.

Just order Band Of Brothers (BluRay) so can't wait to see that on it! :)

I did. Main reason I switched was I was getting sick of gamerpoints and that it was becoming an obsession, and that I was playing games just to get points and not for the fun. I do miss the 360, as I still still it's a better games machine, but I find myself actually enjoying playing more without points. Trophies don't have the same meaning. I can't say I've been massively impressed with the exclusives I've played (Uncharted 1, MGS4 and LBP) but I'm loving how quiet the machine is, and I've saved space by using it to replace my Blu Ray player. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase.

As others have said there should be another option! I'd never completely switch to PS3 but as I have both I'll play both. 360 red ringed at the moment though so finally getting round to finishing Uncharted 2.

Folks who love Killzone 2 - It's the multiplayer right? :D I'm about halfway through the singleplayer, took Visari square and going across a bridge at the moment and it's awful. Dull plotting, repetitive missions, idiotic squadmates whose every line starts with "S**T!!!", it makes Gears of War's story look like Citizen Kane! :pac: Although the graphics, let me just say it is the most beautiful factory I've ever fought in. Love the multi and will play that though - rant over! :D

Just picked up a PS3 the other day, to complement my xbox. Plan on using it to play the exclusives. Its a pretty impressive piece of kit, and the duietness is appreciated.
I think I still prefer the xbox tho.. imo better controller, prefer the dashboard and live. But there isn't much between them, and obviously the PS3 playing Bluray is great. Gonna give the RTE player a go later..
As a games machine the Xbox seems better, but as a media player (this is replacing my DVD player and I don't have a tv receiver in my bedroom) I'm loving the PS3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

    Im thinking about about it
The 360 was the first console I'd owned since the SNES but between the launch of the Slim and me finally believing that there are enough exclusives to warrant buying one, I decided to invest in a PS3. Thankfully I took advantage of some of the special people trading in their 60GB models so picked up one of those on the cheap from Game. So far I've only played Resistance 1 and 2 but all of the other PS3 exclusives (bar inFamous as that was still full price) are sitting on the shelf waiting to play.

All that aside, I think really ditching (read: replacing) one console with another is pretty insane. While my 360 is still my primary machine you can't argue that there are some fantastic exclusives on the PS3 which you simply can't play without said console. Therefore yea, just get both. ;)

I`m a 360 owner, I got a 250 gig the other week, the uncharted bundle + 1 free game was too tempting. The exclusives, blurays and the fact the slim is pretty sexy pushed it for me. Heres my comparison

+Its quiet, oh so quiet compared to the 360, which sounds like a hairdryer on low when playing a game.
+Its much neater and smaller package than a 360 with the massive brick
    +Blu-ray is pretty sexy
+Built in webbrowser is pretty cool for youtube (Beef up the flash player for HD already sony !)
    +Exclusive games are nice
+Built in 360 "extras" like controller batteries & wifi
+Six axis is pretty cool in all 2 games that seem to have it
+Free online gaming, it`ll have paied it self back in 5-6 years !
    +Nice interface
+Nice gadget stuff like remote play

-The controller isnt as nice as the 360s (it seems to have triggers but most games use the buttons above them ) It also costs 60 quid !
-The store is a mess compared to live, why doesn't every game have a demo you upgrade by default ? It just makes sense.
-Media Sharing seems to calve because I have too many files
-Installing games, who wants to rip the wrapper off in anticipation only to wait 30 min to install it, and then reinstall it in the future if you run out of space.
-Webbrowser is quite basic, doesnt render many pages correctly
    -Doesnt have mass effect :P

The quietness really is a clincer for me though, I`ll probably be buying many dual platform games just for this reason, makes it alot more enjoyable, I`m half afraid to leave my xbox on because its so hot and makes so much noise, and with good reason, its rrod`d twice on me so far.

Inferior multiplatform games and a better online service on 360 results in me using my PS3 very little. Having said that, God of War Collection is getting a lot of time atm (damn I forgot how amazing these games are).

Oh, and the DualShock sucks for FPSs...

I find that quite surprising actually. While there are some cracking games on PSN, I still find XBL home to the majority of great titles.

I mean, excluding any non-HD remakes you have 'Splosion Man, Alien Hominid HD, Castle Crashers, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, Lucidity, N+, Shadow Complex, South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play!, The Maw, Trials HD, Wik and the Fable of Souls, The Secret of Monkey Island and Rez HD. Plus Serious Sam HD and Perfect Dark HD on the way soon.

On the PSN there is Burn Zombie Burn, Crash Commando, Echochrome, Fat Princess, fl0w, Flower, Pain, the Pixeljunk series, Super Stardust HD, Trash Panic and Wipeout HD.

Did I miss anything on either platform?

Well you're forgetting that Castle Crashers is on PSN anyway, and (I believe) Shadow Complex (which was a bit of a let down tbh) among others are going to PSN at some stage.

But PSN also has the PS1 games (theme hospital ftw) along with calling all cars, Flock, Gravity Crash, Noby Noby Boy and loads more.

Multi-plat ones of note are Super Street Fighter HD Turbo Remix, Braid and Wolfenstein... among others that I forget!

The Giotek triggers are brilliant, when they stay on the controller for more than ten minutes of gaming.
You can get little covers for the sticks too. Now those i really love. I hated the silly convex tops to the sticks, theres no grip either.

Eh Geltabz very ugly but they do the job very nicely. Unfortunately the only ones in stock where i bought them were the horrible neon green, they look really really awful on a white DS3.

Actually CC isn't on PSN yet, but it is due in 2010 sometime. As I've said before though I really hate using games not even out on the system or with a release date as part of these comparisons. That being said, as a Microsoft published game, Shadow Complex won't be on the PSN. As for it being a let down, well couldn't disagree more but I'll leave that for a different thread. :)

Well Theme Hospital belongs on the PC tbh and Flock is multi-platform too. Hadn't heard of Gravity Crash, I'll give it a shot though, ta!
