Apparently the Intervention is a better anti-personnel sniper rifle than the Barrett in real life too. I suck at sniping though, even though it is fun every now and again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 950 ✭✭✭cotwold

I've been using the 50. cal, i used the intervention for a couple of matches put didnt take to it. It's reloads are to slow. I cant wait to try the next two, im level 33 so it wont be long.

Personally i'd stick with the PTRS-41 though over any of em.

i use the sniper as my primary weapon all the time did it for cod4 as well.cant wait to unlock the temlal vision scope.it take longer to level up so ive started using a rapid fire machine gun as my secondry for when in buildings/running that kind of thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 950 ✭✭✭cotwold

oh yeah the termal vision is incredible. It makes marking you targets sooo much easier. Especially from very long distances. A nice addition to the game.

WA2000. you can actually use it closer up than the others so its better on maps where guys might get the jump on you. has a high rate of fire also

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭LD 50

Yea, I agree. The WA2000 is much better. Its semi Auto, and really accurate. Its one of my favourite weapons overall actually.

Ugh, i miss the old R700 and dragunov. In this i like the WA2000 best

It's a savage gun alright...it's a pity though that it takes up half the fúcking screen so you have blind spots on right your hand side...
I loved using it apart from that..
I hate the look of all the rifles bar the Barrett and I miss my old friend the M40A3.

I've have loved this one. (this is the airsoft version but the colour scheme is gorgeous) yours for only $1600 from redair :)

I thought they would have kept the M40 series rifle, and instead of the A3 they'd have used the newer A4. It was on of my fav's, especialy for the very long shots.

Is that including the scope. And is that a laser designator, or NVG sat on top of the scope.

thermal vision with assault rifles isn't that great imo. great with the sniper tho :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭LD 50

I find AR+thermal is a brilliant combination. You get all the zoom from a sniper rifle with the scope, and a bonus of either full auto, or 3 round burst. I prefer the 3 round burst though. Its brilliant on the FAMAS, and I'm working towards getting it on my M16 now.

To be honest I haven't got the patients to be a sniper.
Ive being playing COD MW1 since last Christmas and about 4 weeks before MW2 came out I was only starting to use the M21 as I was getting board with Assault Rifles and Sub Machine Guns.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 579 ✭✭✭Qs

I was using the 50cal and hating sniping mostly but I switched to the Intervention yesterday and I love it. Doesn't even require stopping power.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 816 ✭✭✭gungun

    WA2000 hands down...
intervention is powerful alright but you dont always hit the first shot so the WA2000 is the best out of the 3 semi auto sniper rifles imo, m14 ebr is a bit on the weak side and i just dont have a feel for the barrett, seems sluggish or something:p

I couldn't stand the sniping in mw, maybe it was my imagination but i felt it was a lot more difficult than waw. Waw is where i really polished my skills.

Was reading about that gun, it's actually an anti-tank rifle. I was thinking that the bang was way too loud!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,474 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

yep..Treyarch just lopped it in there so people would think it was the Barrett equivelant in COD5...
that bloody thing was way too big to be a sniper rifle..look on youtube for the massive recoil on it..also there was no scope on it..
lol..if you had your eye upto a scope when you fired this thing it would end up inside your head :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 950 ✭✭✭cotwold

Yeah it was a monster of a gun.

Besides the dual shotguns, the Snipers are the worst part of this game I think. It seems you need Stopping Power to get consistent 1 hit kills. And this is without Juggernaut. It just makes me mad when you clearly snipe a face and it doesn't drop. Perk or no perk they should die.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,977 ✭✭✭Soby

Have been using .50 cal Barrett all along but haven't been impressed by it, is the Intervetion really better for one-shot kills? Barret really does not feel .50 cal for one shot kills, sometimes people even seem to survive the first headshot!

Anybody see Shooter last night, i think that was the WA2000 he started off with then switched to a barrett to take down the chopper. Great bloke movie, awful dialogue to boot.

Im a Barrett fan out&out, even though it is a cumebrsome beast to use. Ive definitly noticed through Killcams that i get taken out by more WA2000's than any other sniper rifle, there are some crazy good sharpshooters out there.

I prestiged and am forced to use the 50 cal for the moment, but will go back to the WA2000 as soon as it's unocked. The limited recoil means you can take two shots, one almost instantly after one the other, and that can compensate for one shot not being enough.

Im loving the challenge of sniping in the game.
Im used to sniping in fps games from back in the days when i played competitively.
In MW2 you gotta be so fast to be effectiive, its a real challenge and very rewarding.
Nothing like owning the akimbo shotgun guys and then see the accusations of hacker via text onscreen because they cant believe someone can outgun them :)
I have the fall skins unlocked for the WA2000 and M21 - 250 headshots for each.
Im almost at the 300 mark for the intervention,im not mad about the 50 cal at all.

WA2000 - powerfull enough with single shot but easy enough to let off another couple of rounds rapidly too.

M21 - similar to WA2000 but slightly less power - for some reason i quite like this weapon with a silencer.

Intervention - Its a blast to use when im playing well -
perks: sleight of hand pro for fast scoping, stopping power pro, ninja pro
Sometimes i switch to ACOG scope for smaller maps.

Most assault rifles in the game can shoot at long range, easily full map distance, this makes sniping an art in MW2 i feel.
Learn to scope in and fire almost in the same motion to be effective.
The most important thing for sniping in MW2 is to master when you scope in your actually on or very near the target.
Master this and your on your way :)
Just dont wait for that perfect headshot and in the long run you will down more guys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,474 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

Yeah..the WA2000 is the best sniper weapon in here..pty it's so fúcking huge...no matter how good I shoot with it I still can't ignore this huge cannon taking up half of my screen..
The Intervention is a nice gun but again with the bloody tripod legs hanging off the end of it...I want my sniper guns to be nice and tidy much like in COD4..

Tried the EBR after I picked it off a dead guy...sniped 4 guys who were running with single shots at long distance without holding the breath key..was very surprised as the EBR is the least accurate of all the sniper rifles (according to the stats) yet seemed extremely accurate to fire..
must give it another shot tonight :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,001 ✭✭✭✭opinion guy

    Just unlocked the M21 EBR

    WOW

By a wide margin the best sniper rifle. Hell you can even use it as an assault rifle when you stick an ACOG scope on it. The silencer thou seems to really weaken it. Anyhow kill ratio has gone way up since using it

Yeah yer man Hitch is good, but he's only showing you the bits he wants to. he admits he is playing 12 hours consistently, recording all, i could create a similar montage if I had no life too.
Also, a lot of the kills are from day one, loads of noobs lost on the maps................he's just shooting fish in a barrel.

Still, gotta appreciate a good sniper on yer team, and loathe a good opponent.

I'll have to go for the M21, at least is the one I will more comfortable with. Tried the intervention recently again after reading some comments about that rifle, but is not the same, recoil is too much, I like the barret 0.50 too. The intervention is probably best once you learn to master snipping as is the best gun to get 1 shot kills, but not being semiautomatic makes it hard, as if you miss your shot you will probably end up dead. M21 has almost no recoil and as is semiautomatic (same as the WA2000) it allow you to make several shots within a short period of times, this could save you, especially if your aiming is not 100% flawless yet.

Silencers seem to take a LOT of damage, it came become frustrating as you dont normally get a kill on one shot so you need to fire twice, problem with the intervention is that by the time you fire the second shot the opponent has already found cover, this makes the WA2000 and the M21 with the aiming perk a must. I have been killed many times when using a silencer by the opponent, as I have to shot him even up to 4 times (if you are far away) giving him time to spot me and shot me before I can finish him off... since then I stopped using the silencer and I am using stopping power. Learning to use the sniper rifle as an assault rifle too, it will take time but slowly but surely I feel I am getting somewhere... that's until I come across a player such as hutch, even knowing where he is they can stand up and shoot back before I have time to react, very impressive.

I use to like being one of the typical snipers, waiting for the pray to show up but after a while I got bored and you dont really make many kills, also after a while I feel bad and think is not fair for other players, so I stand up walk a few meters and get shot down by another sniper... oh well...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭holdithoncho

i find the intervention a great gun on certain maps. With the thermal scope on wasteland in a game like capture the flag its excellent as there is only like three passages towards the flag espically down the center tunnel at the start of the game gives u a great oppertunity to rack up a collateral or two.;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,030 ✭✭✭marko91

i use a thermal sighted intervention...way more 1 shot kills than the 50.cal...to be fair i havent given the other sniper rifles a fair tryout so icant comment on them but im happy enough with my intervention to want to try themout:D

    question.....

    thermal sight v normal sight?

i prefare thermal sight by miles but its not that good on snow maps cos sometimes you can barely ake targets out as the backround will be white half the time aswll:(

    silencer's f*ck up sniper rifles.

I used to use the WA2000 but I'm afraid its the intervention for me now, with sleight of hand and stopping power its pretty awesome and I think it looks very nice. Its pretty much the spirtual successor to the bolt-action sniper from CoD4 (excuse me I've forgotten the name of it)

Thermal scope is a great addition and I think it actually comes up faster than the normal scope.

Akimbo magnums aswell as secondary, those things whip out fast!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

Been using the M21 with M9/Tactical knife combo, works pretty well so far. I really wish the Draganov was in this though :(

    true about silencers

once u unlock sleight of hand pro and use it on a sniper rifle you CANNOT live without that extra quick zoom in:D

sleight of hand is a MUST for sniping

steady aim pro...once u unlock that you can hold your breath longer so its also a must have even though the steady aim is kinda useless

I don't like the silencer but agree otheriwse. currently using m21 thermal and fmj's - trying to get 40 penetration kills but its takign forever.

I don't think the slight of hand is that necessary really with the m21 at least. U will often get one shot kills with the m21 - much more often that barrett or wa2000 i find.

Praetor stick the ACOG scope on if you want to use sniper rifle like an assault rifle - you lose zoom so its not good for big maps but great on the city ones. you can also hip fire and empty the clip it if someone hops up in front of you and between the high damage and high rate its reasonably effective if you don't have time to whip out secondary weapons. Its not great compared to hipfiring assault rifle but better than the other sniper rifles for that

It is a good idea, I am trying to be at least half as good (a tenth to be real) as these guys, the ACOG could help me achieve that kind of control, the main problem is that I am not 100% use to the PS3 controller, I still havent got the hang of it, I am more use to PCs and a mouse, I am much quicker with that!

One day I will be a good sniper...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8sDyq7d7a8

Now I am back to the intervention, find it to be the best sniper rifle, it has a lot of recoil but no need to worry if you can take out the target on one shot.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 15,240 Mod ✭✭✭✭FutureGuy

I've decided I am happy with my current Assault rifle and so I won't be levelling up my newly unlocked ACR for the timebeing.

Therefore, I'm off sniping for a while. I know the maps much better now and I now the good sniping sites. I also have all the great sniping perks unlocked.

So what should I use, the WA2000 or the Intervention?

The Intervention is alot better for one shot kills, its the most powerful and the most accurate, but you also have to reload after every shot. Surprisingly its very good for quick scoping because its recoil sets it precisely back on target after pulling the bolt, whereas if you were still aiming down the scope you might have lost your target.

The WA2000 has very little recoil and I read somewhere that Stopping Power doesn't affect it when it is unsilenced, freeing up space for other Red perks. I think it kills most with a shot from the chest upwards. It is very big though and obscures alot of the screen.

He was using an M40 before switching to the Barrett - which he has to manually cycle owing to blanks not producing enough pressure. Currently sniping with the m21, but if there's one gun I could take from Cod4 it'd be the M40.
