Just watched a video on the facebook page of some bloke flipping a tyre. I'm no expert but, this is deffo not the way to flip tyres. Bloke's using loads of bicep and not even trying to move through the weight.

    F-ing hillarious.

That clip is the best example of how not to do a tyre flip.

While i do appreciate the audience thought it was a laugh it would have been better if they said it was a functional strenght and endurance comp fair play to the guys that competed i hope a few of them will try a strongman comp but i know a few people that went to T4BB and where pretty pissed off with what they saw they felt ripped off.

Anyway thats it my rant is over and as suggested i will go outside and start building me a gridge.

I was told that the qualifying performance required to take part at the tfbb strongman event was a complete joke. i don't know what it was, but if that's the case then I wouldn't have expected too much... It's all just good fun, at teh end of the day 99% of the crowd are there to see cars and half-naked ladies so its' all just some fun really.

There is a bit of background to this which is why gottaluvlabs is (rightly) pissed. Basically I ran a proper strongman show at the Toys for Big Boys show last year, I put a lot of resources into it by buying equipment (Hummer deadlift frame, barrels and stones, advertising ect.). I also gave 4,000 euro from my own pocket for prize money to attract quality athletes (the bloke who won it came from Lithuania for the comp and is Zydrunas Svickas's training partner and teammate) I had no problem doing this and I am not complaining, I am a big fan of the sport and want to see it grow but a lot of start up money was put in with a view to running it every year. I wanted to put on a really good show so that the T4BB show would see the value and I could get them to cough up some of the prize money/costs in the future.

The T4BB lads were very happy with what happened last year and we agreed to run the show again. Gottaluvlabs and Paul Roberts were going to help me run the show because I am really busy and they also love the sport and have run many non profit shows to help develop the sport in Ireland.

I don't know if the Irish Strength Institute contacted the T4bb or it was the other way around but there was a deal done where they would run a "modified" strongman free of charge obviously with the view to getting clients for their strongman personal training. It didn't really bother me (just because I have so much on) but gottaluvlabs and Paul Roberts were disappointed because they could see the potential to bring a real strongman show to a massive audience every year... What I did find annoying was that they used pictures of my strongman show last year to advertise the modified show this year, I hope a load of people didn't pay 20(?) euro in expecting a full strongman show.

Hopefully myself, gottaluvlabs and Paul are going to work together and run 5-10 shows every year all over the country and get a league going.

i thought it was a complete joke at the T4BB show - even the prequalifying was a joke e.g. pull ups had to be 1sec up and 4secs down, tell me when you have ever seen that in a strongman comp!

What the guys do will possibly impress some people but for the most part i am disappointed its all focused on pretty boy stuff and not raw strength on display.

What a sham! this detail proves them guys have no clue of strength/strongman.

I'll be looking forward to the professional comps next year in limerick!

Last year I attended TFBB solely for the purpose of seeing the Strongman contest, unfortunately it was held in an area that couldnt hold all those who wanted to see it. This year I attended once again only to find it cancelled with no notice etc and instead some half assed thing in its place. If someone is willing to bring WSM or equivalent standard show to Ireland Im sure plenty of people would go.

Hi all Mick K has pretty much sumed up where i am coming from and i have taken this up personaly with ISI and asked them to stop calling what they are doing Strongman. Will it work i dont know.

As Mick said we are currently organising comps for next year which will be open to everybody to compete in.

I am running the St Patricks Strongman Challenge in Limerick in March and Strongman Champions League Limerick on June 5th and 6th we alredy have Zydrunas Savickas competing in june all details are on our facebook page.

My concern is that the average joe soap at toys for big boys saw what was called a strongman comp and now thinks thats the standard in ireland.
