Does anyone know if there's midnight launching of this happening in Dublin tomorrow, or do we have to wait until Friday to get our hands on it?

I can't see anywhere doing a midnight launch for this to be honest!

Imagine how awesome it would be though.

    Not very ?

Doubt anywhere would do one tbh, its a Wii game, a sure to be great Wii game but a Wii game nonetheless, its target audience would all be in bed :D

I was in gamestop yesterday and it said this is out on the 27th!? Maybe they made a mistake...

Has anyone bought this yet? Do you know what shop has the best price?

I can't wait to play it but I'm waiting till Christmas. I've gotten a few other games recently so no point in getting another so soon.

HMV Grafton St. tell me they've got it for €38.99. It's €44.99 in Game.

Been playing it about 2 hours now, am at the end of World 2, and its...brilliant :) Its the true sequel to SMB 3, its got the same map layouts, Toad houses, hammer bros., airship, castles with the Koopa Kids, the new suits are fun, you play it with the Wii remote held like a NES pad, sideways with one button to run, one to jump, and thats it, the Wii controls arent used a lot and its all the better for it. The graphics are fine, the music is what you'd expect, but its just a barrell of fun, havent tried multiplayer yet but will give it a bash later, I bought this instead of Assasins Creed 2, glad i did

I'm tempted to buy a wii just so I can play this :p

I dug out the wii to play some mario galaxy last night, in anticipation of playing this today only to discover that one of my butthole friends had taken my wii controller a few weeks ago so he could play four player mario kart at his place, and now he's buggered off to america for a fortnight.

can't believe the controllers are still 40+ euro in shops though.

It's rediculous seeing as you still have to fork out for a nunchuk aswell

Wheres the cheapest place to pick this up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,572 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Not sure of other shops, but its €40 in gamestop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

€38.99 in HMV, €39.99 in Gamestop and €44.99 in Game, Game also are charging the ludicrous price of €59.99 for the normal edition of Assassins Creed whereas its €44.99 everywhere else, madness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 279 ✭✭maddymcmaddser

It's €44.99 in Xtra Vision and in Game they're also doing a collectors edition, which you basically get this limited edition savings tin with the game for €49.99

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 65 ✭✭JonThom

You need to preorder to get the tin. Hardly worth the extra cash though, if you ask me. Picked myself up a copy at lunchtime in HMV for €38.99.

was planing to wait for xmas for this one but I'm severely tempted now as I have a few games to trade in as well.

Been playing this the last few hours. Really good fun. Loving it :D

As Krudler said, its like SMB3. World 1-1 and 1-2 seem like they were taken out of SMB and brought to wii graphics.

One bit of advice though: when rescuing a toad, don't put it in yoshi's mouth and then get hit. DAMN YOSHI RAN OFF INTO A PIT!!

Love this game, the addition of the propeller hat over the leaf/tail racoon suit thing in SMB3, the penguin suit is interesting but a little hard to keep. The ice flower is the best thing ever for the tough levels because it can actually kill those skeleton turtles in the castle/fortress :D I've already gotten three warp cannons (World 1 -> World 5, World 2 -> 5 and World 3 -> 6) and am playing through for all those special big coins to get the full experience which means I'm going back and playing through the missed worlds but it's so worth it.

It's a long overdue proper expansion to the series of games I loved as a kid for the NES!

Co-op play is also mega, but can be very frustrating as you land on top of each other and disrupt jump patterns which is annoying on the tricky levels. A little tip that helps is to press A to "bubble" yourself if you're falling to doom because the other player landed on you. Then shake the wiimote like a mad thing so you catch up with them before they die and they release you - took two worlds to figure that one out >_<

I heard that they were actually the developers showing their skills off.
    It's just hardcore Super Mario.

I was really disappointed in the DS new super mario bros game which was very by the numbers and uninspired but the Wii one really is excellent with very varied level design. Superb stuff altogether.

Is everyone still enjoying this? is it more SMB3 or SMWorld?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,410 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

It's more Mario 3 although there's elements of SMW in there too.

I'm amazed at how every level constantly surprises with something different.

Oh by the way, the review in the evening herald today of the game was by yours truly :)

A fantastic game. I've got as far as world 4. They got the difficulty balance just right. Harder than SMB3 but easier than Lost levels. As far as I'm concerned this is the first true console sequel to Super Mario World.
Now please create NSMBW 2 Nintendo. I'd love to see a 2-D Zelda and Metroid for the Wii.

I think the New Metroid Other M will have sections in 2-D.??
Em the 2-D Zelda games have traditionally sucked btw :p

really enjoyed playing on my own the other night however the multiplayer is frustrating as hell when playing with my little lad.
the split second pause when another player dies really starting to p*** me off esp when he's on continue no 25 by world 1-5!!! be easier just to watch him freak out at the screen himself than me getting annoyed. bless him :)

Remind him to press "A" if he's about to die to enter protective bubble.:)

I played the first three worlds with my cousin over the weekend, it really is excellent. The level design is great, just challenging enough. I found the DS one a bit easy, overall. Mario games are always a pleasure though!

Sounds great guys, really looking forward to getting my hands on it. I found NSMBDS a bit to easy as well.

he's 4 so getting him to jump when he should is challenging enough :o
besides that he already shakes himself to bits catching up with the bubble!! :)

stil the same prices in the shops or can someone tell me the best place to buy this before christmas?

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,584 ✭✭✭TouchingVirus

Definitely worth buying for Christmas, it's a brilliant game..but I found it a bit tough or maybe I'm a tad rusty on my platformers. I ended up relying on co-op to get some of the coins on World 9 especially (a bonus world after completing the game to collect more Star Coins, no level checkpoints either :D)
