which one of these rowing machines would you recommend?

    You have posted no links, I dunno if you would get a decent one for that money. The one I hear recommended all the time is the "concept 2".

    If your goal is simply getting rid of a beer gut I would sooner spend the money on a set of weights.

    None, I would not touch them with a barge pole mate.

    There is only one rowing machine worth using or getting and that is the concept2.

    It will cost new over £1300. But it will last longer than you or I will!

    There are concept 2's that I saw and these were the original one's that had conservatively done 80km per night in a rowing club 5-7 nights a week and for upwards of 10 years now that is near 300,000 km of rowing. They were pretty tatty at this stage as the club did not look after them. Point is they were still usable.

    I doubt any of us will exceed that amount of rowing! :)

    You can get rid of a beer gut with weights? must have a look at that cos i have access to an exercise bike and find it completely boring:( thought a rowing machine would be a bit more fun:) but weights might be better still

    You could/should be able to find a 2nd hand C2 for around the £300 mark. If privately owned I cannot see how it could be damaged.

    Ebay uk or rowing clubs are a good starting point.

    Bear in mind that IMO one is unlikely to do 30 mins of rowing every night, it's a hard workout even when taking it easy!

    I was going to mention you might get bored with it, if the bike bored you then this probably will. Good equpiment will hold its value well, a second hand concept 2 should sell for the same money you paid for it, same with second hand weights.

    Weight lifting/resistance training is excellent for fat loss, you should read the stickies as they have all the info there already written out nicely. Basically building new muscle requires calories and so boosts your metabolism, the added muscle weight will also increase your metabolism slightly. Even a simple chinup bar is well worth getting.

    You could probably get an original model B for less than a £100 unless some consider it a design classic and ask ridiculous money for it.

    BTW it says a lot for the machine that resale values are so high.

    Rowing clubs would be worth touching up for old stock.

    Lads I had a 7 year old C2 that simply didn't devalue from the time I bought it to the time I sold it. I would be very surprised if you could pick one up for €300, I would say €500 would be the minimum and after that you'd be looking at getting damaged ones.

    If you're going for one, two things to watch out for- Bungee and computer. Rowing clubs ones would have more mileage but they're looked after better, whereas somewhere like a fitness club or hotel gym's ones might look better but would have people messing about with the monitor and slapping the handles back.

    It seems so, a handy tip is using advanced search in ebay. This allows you look for "completed listings", so it only searches what auctions are actually finished and if sold in the last month. (you must be a ebay member to be allowed search this).

    It's not common but it is doable and achieveable to find a good one for around £300.00.

    You just need to be patient. I would in all cases prefer to view the machine and check mileage via monitor before parting with any money.

    Im seconding the idea that if the bike didnt work, neither will the rower. Its a harder machine than a bike. Any static machines can be tough to motivate yourself to use - they are boring, unless you get a mate around to chat to ya! Rowers can be hellish noisy so watching tv etc can end up being LOUD. :)

    First, learn body weight exercises. Jog. Skip. Do free weights or kettlebells. If you have the motivation to stick at that a few times a week without getting bored, then invest in heavier machinery to vary the workout. Otherwise your rower may be an expensive clothes hanger.
