    Hey guys.

So firstly if no one knows what the mongol rally is about it is basically a 10,000 mile drive from London to Mongolia on some of the worlds worst roads.

All the money raised goes direclty to the charities in Mongolia.

We will be funding the trip by company sponsership.

At the moment we have a facebook page promoting our team.

It would be great for all you guys to join our page and follow us on the journey next year.

Please pass the facebook page onto your friends so we can try to raise as much money for the worth while charities.

If any one wants to know more or ask any questions please feel free to post here which will also keep this thread up here for a while.

Here is our page (You can also search the group on face book.Search for Exploding Marmalade)

    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=215013883272#/group.php?gid=215013883272&ref=mf

Also if there are any business' out there who want to sponser the trip please pm me.

I cleared this with Almighty Cushion about posting here.

The charities we will be supporting are on the below page:

I would but I don't want to ruin the integrity of the cause..

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Never a big fan of people who want me to sponsor their holidays / travel.

Never a big fan of people who want me to sponsor their holidays / travel.
    I hate this aswell.
You wont be sponsering my holiday.

All money raised goes directly to the charity and none is spent on getting there.
We will be paying for that through company sponsership and advertising on the car.

Ah I used to love there type of things when they came around at work... I'm doing a sponsored walk in Thailand or I'm doing a parachute jump in Australia. I have no problem giving the money to a charity, but don't expect someone else to pay for your holiday.... under the guise of it being for charity

    "The worthwhile charities" ?

You haven't posted a list of them here nor on your Facebook page.
Can you provide a list of the charities who will receive money and in what proportion ?

When you say enter do you mean sponsership or entry to the rally?

For anyone that doesnt have facebook we will have our own website soon where people can donate through so will put the link up here.

Correct and right, if you are really that interested there are plenty of worthy causes in Ireland.

This stuff ,quite frankly , is getting tiresome.

If we followed this logic we would only support charities within our own community.

As already said no money raised through fundraising goes towards getting there. It all goes directly to the charities.

We have already paid out an entrance fee of 800 euro out of our own pockets.

    Incorrect, you can do both.

Can you outline your charity history in Ireland over the past three years.??

Good luck with the fundraising OP and the best of luck with the rally. :)

Don't mind those that say they won't donate because they are not going to contribute to a "holiday" or they'd prefer to donate to locat charities etc., that's just rubbish.

I think you'll find that most of the most vocal complainers prefer to complain and will sit on their asses and not do anything for any charity. The majority of people that have complained and given you grief about your charity haven't donated to the SSF either, I'm sure they'll come up with some elaborate excuse why that's a bad charity too.

Fair play to you for actually doing something. ;)

Very vague generalisations Sir, have moderators now access to the bank accounts of the people who post here?

I would strongly suggest sir, that you withdraw that unfounded allegation.

In case you have overlooked it, people in here have free will to donate to whom or what charity they support.

To suggest that just because they don't donate to the SSF is indicitave of their general altruism is quite frankly an abuse of your position.

I urge you Sir ,to withdraw that statement.

Can you back up your very personal allegation that the posters who are rightly sceptical about this "sit on their arses and do nothing"

Because if you can't I think a withdrawel of that post might be wise?

I did not say all. I do not have access to any records except what is available to all posters on the forum and that is what has been publicly pledged.

I think posters have every right to be very sceptical around this type of "charidee" stunt.

To express such sentiments as the OP did and then be branded as a complainer who sits on his / her ass and does nothing for any charity is, quite frankly extremely insulting.

Sounds like a serious abuse of moderator powers to me pal - I for one don't need your arrogant and insulting lectures.

I think this is going off the topic lads.

I am not here to start a debate on this whole charity thing.

If you have any questions in regards where the money is going I think I have answered these in previous posts.

If I havent please ask and I will answer these.

fair play to you floyd moon, I plan on entering the rally in the coming few years.

the OP will be paying for his visas, food, petrol, accomodation, all out of his own pocket. plus the 800 euro entry fee, this "Holiday" will be costing him a few grand.

maybe go onto the website and look up how much it is going to cost HIM instead of whinging about it without having a notion of whats involved.

    http://mongolrally.theadventurists.com/index.php?page=costs

ive spoken to teams who have done these rallies before and costs have ran into 4 or 5 grand OUT OF THEIR
OWN POCKETS. the charity donation for doing it stays seperate.

    Fcuk all that...

I still say that people have a right to be cynical about these so called charities.

I prefer to give to a LOCAL charity ..where I know the people involved and whom I trust to use the money appropriately.

In fairness this poster seems genuine enough......but supporting ithe rally in any meaningful way takes a good leap of faith.

Hey there, I did the Mongol Rally this year and it was the best experience ever... We travelled through 18 different countries, and met a lot of very interesting people on the way.
We encountered quite a bit of trouble from police and border guards in a lot of the countries but it added to the experience. A lot of the police seem to be corrupt though so be warned! It is a fantastic thing to do though, you will see so much more of these countries driving through them, rather than flying into a city.
We did a few fundrasiers for the charity which turned out to be great fun and very fruitful, people were very generous even though it was for a charity they weren't very familiar with. Get creative with your fundraisers, people seem to appreciate something a bit different...
One thing I will say is that the trip will probably cost you a lot more than you expect, between buying the car, kitting it out, petrol along the way, bribing and 'unexpected' costs at borders.
But it's worth every penny, I'd go again in a heartbeat! Best of luck!:)

    Needless shit stirring, tbh.

Just not prepared to contribute to his adventure.

I...eh...I see that now. Not content with getting one foot in my mouth this week I have to get the other one in there, too.

Maybe I'll just lay off the posting for a while.

We will be using a website called justgiving.com which sends the money directly to the charity so we wont even be handling it.

Please stop saying you are paying for my holiday or adventure.

As already said all money raised through fundraising goes directly to charity.

Hopefully it wont be too expensive.

Me and the other two lads that are going all work together and we were all told yesterday that we lost our jobs.

Still going to do this cause there are more needy people in the world like the children that these charities help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 772 ✭✭✭floydmoon1

We have our donation page set up for this.
Money is going directly to Mercy Corps.

You can also join our facebook page on the link below.

    Thanks
