    Buckethead Les Paul

27-inch scale, two kill switches, minging colour, and the princely sum of €4,311. FFS.

That is absolutely hideous and only a lunatic would buy one.

I think it's fine for a guitarist to customise their own guitar - if Buckethead wants arcade-style kill switches, then more power to him. If Gibson wants to make 50 more of them so that Buckethead never needs to worry about losing or breaking a guitar, fair enough.

To expect someone to pay $4,300 to buy this frankenstein , mongrel, piece of crap, is insane!

What did you expect from a man who wears a KFC bucket on his head, beside never mind the prices on the Gibson website handiest thing to do is half them to get the usual € price ie they have the R9 priced at something like $8500 but you pick one up for around the 4300 mark I would expect this to be priced at around the €2000 mark. Still way to expensive tho I have seen better lookin' toilet seats

Its the new CEO, hes driving the company to the ground, theres a website where you rate your workplace etc, and everysingle comment is from workers saying how he's destroyed the company releasing **** reworks of guitars, ltd editions etd and basically getting rid of QC. And wont work on new models etc.

That really bothers me, why the feck does bono get a signature gretsch? He doesn't play rockabilly. And you're right, its FUGLY.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,035 ✭✭✭✭-Chris-

I think the sequence of events went something like this:

Bono was given a green Gretsch with gold hardware by his stylist.
Either Bono or his stylist put a sticker on the scratchplate saying "The Goal is Soul". It's a nice enigmatic touch to this particular stage prop.

Mr Gretsch said to Bono, "you know, that guitar looks really good on you!"

    Bono said "yeeeeeeeaaaaah"

Mr Gretsch then said "we can put that stupid sticker on a rake of green Gretschs, call it the Bono signature model, and charge a premium"

Bono said "what's my cut, mister?"

Mr Gretsch said a suitably high number, they both shook hands.

    The end.

No artistic merit in it whatsoever, it's just a financial transaction subsidised by Bono's fans.

    Gibson Buckethead Signature Les Paul

From his prolific solo work, to his prominent memberships in the supergroup Praxis and rock legends Guns N’ Roses, Buckethead has displayed one of the most fiery creative personas of our times, and has continually affirmed his stance in the upper echelon of contemporary shredders. Equally attention-grabbing as his incendiary chops, Buckethead’s stage show and visual presence remain unique among the rock field, and his Gibson guitars—a white Les Paul in particular—have always been a big part of that.

With an oversized, chambered Les Paul body, a marker-less ebony fingerboard, and Buckethead’s choice of Gibson’s contemporary ceramic humbucking pickups—complete with modified electronics and “arcade” style kill switches—this is a Les Paul like none to have come before. It’s primed to get you noticed, and designed for utmost performance for the contemporary rock, metal, and shred performer.

    Features:

Trying too hard. Les Paul Standards with Floyd Rose trems, and the prices on the Gibson site are not realistic either.

They should concentrate on the usual models, LP, SG etc. and make them as good as possible. There will always be a market for them. If they are not done properly, guitarists will buy other brand names that make the LP and SG etc.

I dunno, I'm all for brands trying new things, but Gibson seem to be trying to get away from their roots and break into other companies' territory - which makes sense from a business point of view, but not from a tasteful one. I'd like to see what they'd do if they tried to make totally new models, going in a direction that Les or Orville would approve of. Interesting.
