Uncharted 2 v MW2 for game of the year

Well the 2 biggest games of the year have come out back to back and most of us will have played them by now.

In my opinion, Uncharted 2 wins hands down due to its storyline, graphics, humour and playability.

While I'm a great fan of the COD series (have them all now from the early pc incarnations to the latest edition), MW2 just seems to be extremely linear, way too hectic in places, very scripted e.g.

the Black Hawk Down rip off scene at the start where you are ambushed in a jeep and get blown up so no option to try defeat the enemies from the jeep

(I know its a battle but getting shot at from all sides doesn't allow you to plan flanking movements against enemies), and I hate to say it, boring in places. The much talked about scene in the

airport where you shoot civilians while playing as a terrorist was very poor in relation to the graphics, you can't run, its almost impossible to die, the enemies are too easy to kill etc etc. Infinity Ward should have allowed the option to play as a Russian counter terrorism soldier who is trying to defend the civilians. I felt it was a cheap way to get people talking about this "shocking" element of the game and after playing it, this part of the game is probably one of the most boring elements of any COD to date.

I had my hopes up when the game moved to

the snowy mountain section with Soap as I thought this would be another "All Ghillied Up" scene like the first MW but no matter how stealthy you try to be, the enemy still finds you. As for the snowmobiles, that was waaaaay too scripted and its impossible to die.

All in all, MW2 is a good game but by no means groundbreaking like the first one. It will sell well and have a loyal fanbase but thats because of the multiplayer element. However, it isn't a patch on Uncharted 2 which is the standard that all games will be judged by from now on.

Demons Souls, Persona 4 and Street Fighter 4 for me tbh. I haven't played MW2 but going on the first game it's not going to beat those 3 games for me.

Uncharted 2 for me by far.
I'm not blown away by the single player campaign in MW2 at all, IMO its only OK & the plot is junk.

I am hoping Assassins Creed 2 will be my game of the year - Over the last 2 years, AC1 and MGS4 are the only games that blew me away. The repetitiveness of AC1 became annoying, but damn, the killing and sheer size of the game was absolutely amazing!!! Heres hoping...

Why is this not in the Games forum?

Why can't this be done in January? That way, all games released this year can be shortlisted and the voted on.

Uncharted 2 is streets ahead of modern warfare. Just my two cents though.

Uncharted 2, best game I've played this year on any platform. It will take something really special to top it and I can't see anything doing that this year.

MW2 is just CoD 4 part 2. Been there, done that, next.
Wouldn't agree with the OP about being impossible to die at the parts he says, not on Veteran anyway, it took me a few attempts with the snowmobiles and had a few close calls in the airport.

It's just a head to head between two of the highest profile and talked about games this year.

Doesn't need to be any more than that. No doubt there will be a game of the year poll apart from this.

The fact that UC2 is a PS3 exclusive, it makes more sense to have it in this forum.

Uncharted 2 definitely! It seems to be selling ok as well thank god! Nice to see developers getting rewarded for excellent games. Ive no real problems with COD its just not my cup of tea.

Ha the PS bias is hilarious. MW2 is the GOTY atm but I fully expect Left4Dead2 to take the title when its released next week.

To be fair I don't think it's PS bias.

It is on the ps forum and one of the games is a ps exclusive, but in most peoples opinions (mine included) Uncharted 2 is a superior game.

I'm not a fanboy, I have an Xbox360 and I love Left 4 Dead but I don't believe for a second that the sequel is going to come close to MW2.

While the storyline in MW2 is utter sh!te, the multiplayer and co-op sections of the game are brilliant. I completed MW2 for the second time last night and all I'll say is the story wouldn't wipe U2's story's a*se!

As an overall, package, U2 wins though.

Added to that has to be the dialogue.

I love the way it sounds like the characters are actually improvising and making the dialogue up as they go along and there are so many hilarious moments.

Each time you play it through they say something different.

If it's between uncharted 2 and MW2 then it has to be done in the playstation section.

What about Resi 5? I haven't played U2 myself, don't own a PS3 (yet), but Resi 5 co-op is incredible fun, online or split screen with a mate. I think across all formats the GOTY contenders will be MW2, Resi 5, U2, Wii Sports Resort and Batman:AA

We might get another contender in a few weeks with Assassins Creed 2. Pre release reviews have it up in the mid 90 percentile. Although the first game was ridiculously repetitive i really enjoyed it. Im hoping for a lot more variety with AC2.

Dragons Age: Origins hands down.

Just realised this was the Playstation forum, but i think its still fair to say Dragon Age is great on the PS3 as well.

Well if anything you have all just convinced me to get u2. I thought the first one was great for a game I got with the ps3 and had heard nothing about. To be honest I just expected MW2 to take over my gaming life. Havnt even gone back to batman aa since.

Agree! Dragon Age: Origins is actually a big contender i heard loads of good things about it. im a bit tempted to get it.... :rolleyes:

Here listen i'm the biggest COD fan you'll find, especially when it comes too the original modern warfare but this is quite simple.

MW2 is not a patch and I mean a patch on UC2. I wish it was the other way around, but MW2 was just such a let down.

Graphics / Action / Storyline / Length / replayability factor UC2 wins hands down in all areas and its that simple.

It's nothing to do with PS3 bias and L4D2 doesen't have a hope of winning GOTY against UC2, again i'm a huge fan of L4D and have played in online since release but it won't stand a chance against UC2.

Yeah that looks pretty amazing, apparently they were friends back in the day... the controls and attacking are supposed to be quite significantly less monotonous aswell... but can't see it happening.

The OP just wants to see how people (who have played both games I'd imagine) rate the 2 against each other.

MW2 was being tipped for GOTY before anybody had even played it but turns out it wasn't all it was cracked up to be and because UC2 is not multi-platform it may be overlooked.

Maybe someone at the end of the year should start a poll and include all the major releases for the year.

But it has to stay in the PS3 or XBox forums. Like Rev says, stick it in the general games forum and you'll have fanboy war breaking out and the PC overlords laughing at us with our twiddly controllers.

The games forum is for discussion on games don't see why it couldn't be there especially with MW2 being a release across 4 platforms. I also haven't seen the fanboyism you are going on about.

Uncharted 2 is something else, not a PS3 fan but this game is a work of art.

If it came down to public vote for GOTY, MW2 would win because let's face it, the 360ers outnumber us and a massive proportion of them are MW2 fanatics. However it came it down to a judging system then U2 would win. U2 myself personally.

ah come on retro, it is not as obvious as it was/is elsewhere but it is there. It is well disguised but there are some major fanboy tints to posts.

If the discussion is on MW2 then no probably not.

But throw this discussion into a general games form and you WILL get xbox fanboys raving about Halo and GOW being better than UC2 and you most definitely WILL get PC gamers stating that fps on consoles are dire.

Maybe they are but the only thing I've ever played on a PC is Solataire so I don't know any different.

Like I've already said, I have both consoles and love the Xbox but I always feel PS3 owners seem generally better behaved on these discussions.

While i said Dragon Age earlier, i do eagerly await playing Uncharted 2. Modern Warfare definitly wont get it though, as it would have to be something pretty amazing for a FPS to win my game of the year vote.

Does MP come into it? If so then it has to be MW2 but SP wise
then from what I gather U2 take the trophy although I havnt

My point earlier was something similar.

TBH MW2 didn't need to do anything spectacular to win the MP prize. MW1 had it nailed, they just copied the format across [not a bad thing!]. They then just amplified it by adding more weapons, more perks, maps etc.

The leap that U2 makes from U1 is much greater. From a company that has never really done MP gaming before, they absolutely nailed it first time out. It also models itself after the MW1 system, but integrate it seemlessly into the U2 gameplay, with the cover system and platforming. The perks and levelling are also well handled.

In SP, U2 wins with a more coherent story and superb dialogue. MW2's SP is about 3-4 hours long, very disappointing for a game of such quality elsewhere.
