Emigrating? Take a year out instead...

It's been a hard year for people looking for work and fulfilment in the irish economy. There is a bleak outlook for many and emigration may be an option being seriously considered with higher unemployment levels for younger adults especially. Instead of leaving Ireland indefinitely it could be a real option to learn about a new culture and a new land while at the same time gaining a perspective on the world through the eyes of people who don't have the broad horizons (even if a little narrowed by recession) as the people of Ireland. Having the experience of a year abroad volunteering with people in great need might be something eye catching for a CV upon return. At the end of the day it may cost money to get out there to do it but giving a community a helping hand for a year may put the challenges to be faced after returning into some perspective.

This is a trying time but in the midst of it all what about a potential life-changing year volunteering abroad?
