I doubt comic con has ever had to resort to any sort of adult enterainment(dont bring up any over 18's anime or video games).

As someone whose been to comic con [NYCC and SDCC] I can say there's a fair bit of adults only material at these shows in fact it's a big a focus as the people who have money and spend it at shows like that are guys in their 30's. Running a show that's all ages doesn't mean making everything PG friendly but rather keeping everything clearly marked and separated. The big apple anime con in new york has hentai and yaoi panels at it. MCM and the London film and comic con have several Yaoi only tables at them. Just because something doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it doesn't appeal to others. I wasn't at the event but from the sounds of it the panel in question took place at 12.30 at night and people where carded at the door....what possible issue could someone have with that? Had it taken place at 2 in the afternoon right after a One piece panel or the like and the doors left open for people to walk in and out I could get concern but given you weren't at the event it seems a little trait to nit pick about it.

The age groups at Irish anime events is always going to be lower then you'd normally find as we have a much smaller population and it tends to be younger people who are into Japanese comics and animation. The last Dublin City Comic Con that was held in 2008 had very few people under 20 at it because the people who are mainly into mainstream american comics in this country are in their late 20's and early 30's [this is on average of course there are people from across all ages into comics] Also due to population size any events that happen normally have to cover as wide a net as possible. To rely solely on one market would cut into a cons appeal greatly. In the states you have the population so you can have yaoi or hentai only focused events, here and even in the uk which has a much larger population it's very hard to have such narrow events.

As long as adults only events are clearly marked and monitored what is the issue with having a hentai events for those over the age of 18 who are interested? No hentai doesn't appeal to everyone but then comics and/or animation doesn't appeal to everyone so try not to judge ;)

eh... it's a pretty large part of the anime industry. I wouldn't be crazy about it myself, but I would have been interested in the panel.

Raging I missed the weekend though. Looking at the videos and photos it looked like a lot of fun.

Just had a crazy week and couldn't make it. Oh well... roll on Eirtakon. I'll be sure to make that one.

    ???

We were promoting cheap hotel rooms so people could stay at the hotel for the con that was taking place, not on the off-chance that they might hook up with someone at that one event we had after midnight on one of the days. That's just....strange.

And as it happens, it was a very informative talk that went into the history of hentai and ecchi and its place in anime culture just before we launched into the 'lawl, here's a picture' stuff.

several years ago channel 4 did a big anime themed weekend and one of the last things they showed [at midnight] was a program on hentai and I have to say it was one of the most interesting of the programs they showed that weekend. From a cultural and historical stand point it's actually quite an interesting topic wither your interested in watching hentai itself or not. A panel is usually a discussion of the topic not just screenings of hentai material, people don't need to travel and pay into a con to see that, you can find plenty of it in a two minute google of the internet.

Now I can't help imagining the poor maids clearing out tentacles from the budget hotel rooms the next morning.

There is nothing wrong with liking hentai, porn or doing a hentai panel along as it was late and was id-ed which it was. Does a girl who models in fetish clothing and who works in the porn industry has no self respect? In the end of the day, it is only acting, roleplaying and just a photo like hentai is only a medium, but yeah people have their views against these things and I respect that.

Nothing wrong with adults watching hentai. Hooray for democracy.

    Hi everyone!

Sorry I just cut and paste the bottom part of my post from the nom-con forum ^^; I actually thought the hentai panel might be on too late even for the adults but wow was I wrong on that! Thank you sinead for correcting me there! I saw some of it and the room it was held in was jam packed! The panel was both interesting and hilarious. Liz, Tree and Sinead were all fantastic! =) Anyway we just try to give a little something for everyone at Nom-con.

Thanks so so much for coming along to Nom-con and making it such a great weekend not just for other attendees but for myself and all the other staff that worked on the con =) We had such a great time!

One of my favourite highlights was probably the skits! The whole thing went so smooth and the team Giblets video they made specially for nom-con was hilarious! ^__^ Also John Swasey was such a legend and one of the soundest guys you'll ever meet. =)

We did make mistakes here and there in terms of organisation and we'll be working hard to improve on those so that next year will be even better! For a first year con I do think it went really well overall ^^

Apologies to anyone who survived our closing ceremony! ^^; The auction took a lot longer than we ever imagined and we just went crazy with raising money for Brainwave, our charity this year! haha We managed to raise over €1,700 which was just incredible!!

    One of the funniest situation at the con was during the closing ceremony I went down to apologise to Andrew Partridge from Beez about it taking forever;

Me: Andrew I'm so so sorry about how long this is going on for!
Andrew: No it's ok it's not your fault, these things can just take a long time. Ok, so what are we going to do to make this never ending story finish before I gnaw my own leg off. Who have we got left to thank apart from Jesus? (yes some thanked Jesus!) XD
*group huddle in front of the stage*

Anyway Andrew went up and saves us all by wrapping up everything in about 3 minutes! XD Many thanks to Andrew on that and the many other times he helped/saved us ^^

haha anyway sorry for my long ramble. Feedback away!!
