Do you consider it a waste of all your time training to do tax/insurance/nct checkpoints? (of course maybe you are checking vehicles for other reasons?)

Surely most of these could be easily automated now, perhaps with ANPR cameras fixed on motorway bridges etc, a lot of speed checking on the motorway could be done by average speed cameras too.

Absolutely not. Some of the biggest criminal detections come from checkpoints. Checkpoints also allow us to interact with the community and give a show of force that we are around and we are watching.

It isn't always just about tax and insurance checks, we might look like we're checking the window but we're also looking at vehicle condition, driver condition and anything that would be suspect

    Hi Hooch
I have heard ages ago that sometimes a couple of new recruits fresh out of Templemore have been put on a Traffic Corps unit.

Is this unheard of? Under what circumstances would this occur?

    Thanks

Is it difficult to catch guys doing doughnuts on the roads, especially in rural areas?

Do you get to do VIP escorts to speed along limos of top visiting ambassadors and others?

I remember the top man in the FBI visited Ireland so that's an example. A football team is another

Is there a lot of training involved to get a couple of motorbikes all working together?

    What is a Audi R6? I know S6 or RS6, but R6?

Okay - seeing as you mentioned Beemers and Audis :D - is there a "type" of driver that will always seem to catch your attention? Is there a particular section of the driving public that will be on the mobile / speed / break lights

    Best of luck,

    S.

What is the funniest/weirdest job you have attended or seen?
What job comes to mind that when you finished your shift you said to yourself "I made a difference today"?
