Can anyone recommend a sleeping aid?

I just want something, either a tablet or something to drink that will put me to sleep. Its almost 6am now, and I'm still wide awake. This is pretty much the norm for me. I have no college in the morning so I can sleep all day. This is ruining my diet and recovery though. My sleeping routine is just a mess.
What do you think of this? http://www.biotestaustralia.com/products/Z12.html
Would it be ok to take every night?
(Mods-please don't move this to some other thread. I'm asking this question mainly because its my performance in the gym that's being affected.)

Take the hit and get up early one day, no naps or sleep all day and then than night you should nod off.
I work shift and often have the same problem. Its all about disiplin. There are plenty of days where i have nothing to get up for but still get up just to be able to sleep that night.
Think about it and it makes sence. If ya stay in bed all day your body will be craving out for some stimulation at night.

Try and get up early tomorrow, maybe after 3 hours sleep and stay up all day. You should sleep like a baby tonight.

You should check out the sleeping and dreaming forum.

    Things I've found help:
Have a read around the internet. There are a few things that you can do to help you get to sleep. Cool room. Dark room. Quietness (or white noise if you're in a noisy area). Not doing anything stimulating in the run up to bed time. Not doing anything except sleeping in your bedroom. Getting up at the same time each day (regardless of how much sleep you've had). Warm milk. And so on.

I find it difficult to sleep after a tough session on the pads myself. On a recommendation I started taking L-Trytophan and (placebo or otherwise) I felt that helped after a week or so.

I take ZMA most nights. I don't think it helps get me to sleep, but I feel like I sleep deeper when I am asleep having taken it.

Most people go through some type of insomnia at some point in their lives. I'd say examine the basics (environment, state of mind going to bed, etc.) before you start looking to buy a magic pill.

    Seriously.
I had the same problem as OP, albeit without the gym problems.
    Fix your routine first.

I use earplugs sometimes, esp. when sleeping in on weekends as my neighbours are usually up and about. I was taking ZMA which did send me off but I ended up getting failry lucid dreams which often had shocks in them and I would end up waking up, no nightmares or crazy stiff just mundane shocks. I used to practise/induce proper lucid dreams and these were quite different (lucid dreams is where you become concious you are dreaming and can control what happens).

I take diphenhydramine for hayfever and it also makes you drowsy so I sometimes take it an hour before bed, this gave the double effect, sleeping pill and no hayfever the next day and no drowsiness during the day.

if its chronic, seeing a psychiatrist wouldnt be a bad idea, only they can prescribe you strong sleeping pills.

Camomile tea, mostly what I use. It's cheap and available everywhere. Sometimes a zinc supplment a couple hours before bedtime (recommended to me here).

I also can't sleep, this has gone on for many years, with many different jobs. Talk to a doctor if camomile tea doesn't work. There's whole chunks of my life I can't remember due to lack of sleep.

I have used Bach's Sleep Remedy before to help nod off.

You can get it in boots.

I've had this problem for years too. It comes in phases though.

If it's bad I might get something like a nytol or something and make sure I exercise hard earlier in the day. As was said perviously, staying in bed late isn't the answer - get up and do a full day of activity, hopefully you'll be tired then. I also don't spend any casual time in my bedroom - this was recommended by a doctor I saw who suggested that your bedroom should associate with sleep. Not watchin tele or using the laptop.

Reading is good also. I find the tv to be a stimulant because of the flashing and movement so reading works for me.

Alot of people don't realise how heartbreaking it is not to manage to get asleep and it can be a depressing feeling just lying there! If you think it's bad, go see a doctor and tell them everything, inc little details. They might spot something in your day to day life that you hadn't thought would affect it.

    Good luck anyway

Late sparring sessions really mess up my sleep. Look into Melatonin, valerian, GABA. Obviously as with any info you get on the net do the research on these.

Was this stuff useful? Seems the easiest to get my hands on.I'm thinking if I use something to get me to bed early for a couple of nights I can keep that routine going then, without the medicine.

Say hello to the snooze button

No seriously I used to have the same problem as you. Really bad insomnia after training sessions. How I cured it was my wife had a kid, now I can sleep standing up if I want to. Just as the insomnia was coming back she had another, so it's gone again. So, I dunno you might try finding a wife and having a child. I think that's what I'm recommending.

hey i used valerian tablets from the health food shops and lit aromatherapy when i had trouble sleeping.

whats really important is 1 hour before sleeping

    do
    -drink warm milk
-read a book that isn't exciting
-have lots of sex -i'm not being silly here this really does help you sleep afterwards
    eat a banana
a gentle walk after dinner is ideal or yoga

    don't
    drink caffeine or alcohol
    have a really hot bath
    do vigourous exercise
watch a scary film or a very exciting show
talk on the phone unless it's a relaxing convo

    go online

I had terrible trouble sleeping in and around my exams and taking it easy an hour before i decided i was going to go to bed really helped. Also doing exercise during the day always helps me sleep.

I dont normally have problem sleeping but there is a product on the AVON list called 'Sleeptheraphy' which is a pillow mist spray .You basically spray in over your bedroom area and the Aroma has a calming , relaxing affect .My sister who was having sleep problems at the time gave me a can of it once and yes , it does work .
