Eating late in the evening

    Guys,
    Quick one.
At the moment I am working like a complete tropper – 12+ hours everyday so this means I don’t get home until about 8-9 every evening.
Because of this I have started eating a lot of sambos, brown bread, Ham or chicken, lettice & chesese.
I would have a canteen style meal during the day – this can vary but generally it is good quality.

Since I have started eating all these sambos, about 3 months back, I feel a lot heavier and generally bloated.
I feel like I have undone all the hard work I put in at the start of the year, getting quite fit and losing 2 stone.

My questions is, if these late nights continue what should I try and eat instead of the sambos etc.
I don’t want a big meal at 9 every evening but know I have to do something.
    30yr, 5’11, about 14.5 stone
Breakfast – wheetabix & full fat milk
Lunch – canteen good quality food
    Fruit throughout the day
    Smabo last thing at night

    Any feedback would be great

    Hi There

No expert here, but I reckon that it is the starchy carbs and cheese late at night that are working against you.

You could try something like a Chicken/Turkey/Tuna/Salmon salad. Just the meat of choice, lots of green leaves and some peppers, spring onions, cherry tomatoes, red onion, cucumber etc. Use olive oil and lemon juice or balsamic vinegar for a dressing if required.

Alternatively have some form of meat from the list above with some steamed brocolli, green beans, mange tout. If you must have a sauce, then have a tomatoe based sauce, preferably home made.

    Best Regards,

    M

A lot of people work long days. This does not have to affect when you eat. Bring food with you so you don't have to stuff yourself when you get home.

    Are you exercising?

    Cheers guys,
Sadly I havn't got around to the exercise part. Just dont have the energy/ time.
Working 6-7 days a week, so finding the energy for a 1 hour gym session after all these hours is tough. I am going to start this weekend.
I have read similar stories before and thought, feck if you cant fin 2 hours a day things are tight - I am not that person.

I guess I could make a big salad on a sunday , fresh veg & chicken - that would last for a couple of days so better than nothing I guess.

On the weekends make double or triple portions of everything. Freeze these in plastic containers and bring them to work. Reheat in a microwave at work.

If you don't have a fridge or microwave at work (my current situation) then boiled eggs, nuts, fresh veg and salad will still be ok even after half a day in your bag.
