Yes, there are like a bazillion apps on iTunes, but 90% are rubbish. Do you have any favourites?

    Mine are:

    EirText Pro
    Awesome Note
    Flickr
    Shazam
    Facebook
    Skype
    iFitness
    Entertainment.ie

    @berkut
hmm... Havent tried that one lol

is that the app that makes your iphone a touchpad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭Scorlóg

I have Airmouse - works great actually. I also use iTunes Remote which is really handy.

My top apps are similar to yours but I would add...

AccuWeather - accurate hourly/daily weather reports for Ireland
JellySms - this usally costs a few euro but I got it for free the other day some how. Beats the pants off EirText (free) because it allows you to use 1000 chars instead of 160, can send to international and short-code numbers (like radio shows have) and gives you delivery reports - something the iPhone can't even do itself.
Twitterific - nice free Twitter client
Sky Sports Football - live football scores
Bump - Shares contacts/photos from phone to phone
Movies Now! - Cinema listings/reviews/trailers for Ireland
Shovel - Nice free Digg client
Sol Free - Lots of Solitaire games... very addictive.
iPity - I pity the fool that doesn't have this app on their phone... ;)
Rss Runner - Nice free RSS client
R.Racing GTI - Deadly driving game (demo). Great for showing off what the iPhone can do...
FS5 Hockey - Nice free air hockey game
Camera Plus - Gives you a zoom camera - touch to focus doesn't work with this though
Sonic the Hedgehog - Does what you'd expect - nice port of the Sega classic.

Any more recommendations? I've become a bit of an app junkie...

I have been playing 'Undercroft' the last couple of days. It's fantastic. It's an RPG along the lines of 'Eye of the Beholder'.

Wow, I must check that out. I used to play the Eye of the Beholder games on the PC all those years ago (granted the 3rd one was a big pile of sh1te), particularly the 2nd one. Lands of Lore was another favourite of mine but it all started with Dungeon Master on the ST/Amiga ;)

WorldCard - great for business cards - take a pic of the card - it recognises the details and you can import into your contacts (and sync up with MS Outlook)

Sky+ nightmare to get set up on my sky box but now that it's working it is top notch!

    Shazam - As above

iWhoopie - for downloading Youtube clips to your phone (although very buggy and not working well recently)

Others - MyBill, Bloomberg, Facebook, Sky News

    Cheers, nice find!

Check out some of the augmented reality apps like wikitude and layar. I don't know how much they'll help you be productive, but pretty cool stuff all the same.

Here's what I'm liking at the moment:

    Free Games (or Lite versions):
    • Jelly Car: you drive a car made of jelly. The sound effects alone have me in stitches.
    • iMafia III
    • geoDefense: a "Tower Defense" game with a sci-fi feel to it.
    • Wolf3D: Castle Wolfenstein 3D. 'Nuff Said.
    • Bix: nice version of an arcade classic (Qix)
    • Dropship
    • SauceLifter: like the classic Choplifter, but you fly a UFO.
    • Civ Rev: Sid Meier's Civilization Revolutions on the iPod
    • DigDugRemix: yes, another arcade classic, this one an official Namco release
    • iCombat: Remember the Atari 2600 & the Combat game? I'm not the only one.
    Free Utilities
    • Dropbox: view files in your Dropbox account. All files when online, then mark favourites for offline storage. Includes viewer for Office, PDFs, etc.
    • Dictionary: big but comprehensive dictionary
    • Planets: tells you all about them and where they are in the sky
    • Quick Graph: plots 2D and 3D maths functions, with a function library
    • WhiteNoise: ambient sounds to help you sleep, such as rain, crickets, or a grandfather clock.
    • RDP: Remote Desktop for Windows
    • WordPress 2: manage your WordPress blogs
    • IRChon: IRC client
    News Apps:
    • New York Times
    • Sky News
    • Huffington Post
    • NASA
    • NPR
    • TVGuide
    • AccuWeather
    Paid programs:
    • Ilium eWallet: store personal info such as account details with hard encryption. Syncs with the desktop version over WiFi.
    • PocketCAS: a full Computer Algebra System. If you ever feel the need to solve 2nd Order Differential Equations on your iPod or iPhone ... now you can. :pac:

To know which is best I'd need to try them all. I've tried a few, but settled on Echofon. Does everything it needs to, including integrated web browsing.

orb live - stream music from your home PC to your iphone wherever you are over 3G (if you have vopiover3G). I can "carry around" all my music and videos with me using this. Amazing app!

is it heavy on data download? is 16gb or 32gb not enough space ? :-)

I have an 8G iphone 3G and, while that is a lot, I have so much other stuff on there, that I find it great to have the option to access my home PC. It isn't that heavy on data - I will monitor over the next while to give you an idea of what it uses up. Before I started using Orb live, I was typically only using about 150M of my download data (wunderRadio over 3G - another good app!) and last month used about 500M having listened to a good few hours of stuff on Orb live. Still well within the allowed capacity. Also, when you have a wireless connection, you don't use up any of your data allocation.

Also, TVOUT - a free app that can display most other apps on an ordinary TV - show your videos, play games etc on your telly (you need a small connector lead to use this)

Cycorder - a free video app (ok quality ) for iphone 3G

Best of all: Skype + voipover3G - make skype calls anywhere, using a 3G connection. I spoke to a friend of mi

Its an instant messaging app. But you dont need an email add to register just a username. Works with iphone and itouch. If you dont have eirtext, this is also an alternative. But its only iphone-iphone/itouch

(this is my first post here)

Saw this today http://appshopper.com/games/superagent - a hollywood iphone game where the person with the highest score before the end of January wins $25,000 real money! (ok it's not 25,000EURO, but 25k dollars is still about 17000 Euro or so, which would still be very very nice!)

Seems to be two Irish guys behind it on their own site. superagentgame.com

Yeah I think one of the guys was on Tom Dunne yesterday. Only caught the end of it but I am definitely going to check it out when I get home. Sure after the budget I'll take any prize I can get my hands on.

I will post back once I get the game to give a review.

*Edit Update - Got the game last night. Costs 1.59 and I am totally addicted to it. Old school role play kind of game. You run an actor agency pretty much similar to Entourage and have to get you clients out of all sorts of situations for a cash reward. Some of the situations are genuinely hilarious. I haven't really made a dent on the high score yet but will have a stab at it! Definitely recommend the game.

    hi all
Anyone know if there has been any major development with MX Tube over the last 6 months. It was the best app i had for my itouch and then all of a sudden it stopped working. I spent hours on the net trying to find a new version but no success. Just wondering if theres an alternative as it was such a great tool

    Thanks alot

U try just downloading again? I used mine fine a few hours ago. Worked fine. Excellent app.
