    R-Point - A Korean Movie (subtitled). Made in 2004.

Starts off as a conventional war movie (Vietnam war that is) and ....

PS If anything the ending lets it down, but I don't know how they could have kept building it up.

    I think 'Saw' is scary.
Probably because there's a lot of gore in it, makes it very frightening to watch.

Horrors don't really affect me but the only one that really had me a bit scared that i can recall was Alien Abduction: The McPherson Tape. I remember coming home from work when i was 16 around 2am. I was the only one in the house and it was lashing and stormy outside. So a lot of things being banged around in the yard. It had just started on Sky Movies and they play it like a video they found. Being naive at that age i never pegged it for a Blair Witch type thing. Actually it was a year before BW's release so why would i.

Yeah I was the same! Scared me when I was young, but when ye re-watch its a cheese fest. and the description says "a tape that the family claim is genuine" but they all die or get abducted in the end!

For me, Wolf Creek wsa the most disturbing film Ive ever watched!!

I dont really get scared watching movies but seeing The Descent in a cinema by myself, as in I was the only person in the screen was petty unnerving, it really added to the claustrophobia of it being alone, most recent thing I've seen thats genuinely creepy at times is [REC], watch that on your own at night on headphones and you'll be sleeping with the lights on

My mates told me to watch "1408" they said it was THE scariest film ever.

I have yet to grow a pair and rent it.

    Your mates are lying!

The scariest movie is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Saw it for the first time in 97, on a pirate video (as it was still banned here I believe). The film left me with a sense of dread for days after.

+1 dont think it's still banned though, well considering i seen it on channel 4 when it was introduced by mark kermode. forced myself to watch it (i was about 10) it was a tough few nights after that!

The Shining maybe? There are a few films that gave me chills or something, like The Shining and The Others, with spooky bits, but no film (no fictional one) where I have been disturbed by it...

    The Ugly Truth..

    .. horrifying!

Not easily scared by movies anymore, but as a young fella (3-6 years old)
Jaws always scared the bejesus out of me. If I went to bed, I would make damn sure any stray legs never went over the edge, lest they be chomped off :D

I'll give another vote to Event Horizon.

Going to check this event horizon one out later.

My vote would go to the Exorcist or The Shining.

The original Ring scared the crap outta me.I rented it shortly after it came out on video (thank you Chartbusters) cos I liked the cover art and it quite simply blew me away.

The problem with recommending it to anyone nowadays is that they have likely either seen the crap remakes or the even crappier parodies/spoofs of the movies end scene so the effect is pretty much ruined.

The original Halloween always scores highly in the scare/thrill factor with me too.

Yeah they're unbelievably disgusting and stomach churning but would you say they're scary? Nope.

I HATE scary films. If i see anything remotely scary on tv or in a film i am out of the room like a shot no matter where i am. I remember being fairly hard core when i was younger trying to impress my older brothers by holding back my screams and the pillow from my face during some terrifing films. But just broke when i saw 'Childs Play'. Worst thing i've ever seen. Even now fifteen years later i can't listen to anyone even mention that horrible dolls name and get the shivers when i see its face on a dvd cover in a video store!

Have to say Eden Lake was one of the scariest for me, just purly down to how real it was, not using any ghosts and gules. A real shocker. Wife had to leave half way through.

On the paranormal film side, would have to be The Burning, watched when I was a teen after eating some funny mushrooms. Never had the pair to re watch to see if it was a scary as I remember....

A Tale of Two Sisters put the ****s up 3 of us when we watched it in a dark room a few years back. I believe it's getting a US remake at the moment (boo).

Agree with The Descent and Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Paranormal Activity at the horrorthon was the most recent thing that gave me a scare. I'm a sucker for 'unsolved mystery' style ghostliness though, even documentaries about ghosts give me the chills. (Not looking to start the already tired debated about whether PA is terrible or not).

I believe it was a remake last year.. it was called 'The Uninvited' - it wasn't half bad as far as PG-13 horrors go. But I haven't seen the original..

The remake did have the scrumptious Arielle Kebbel going for it though..

The Grudge (remake) was the last film that really scared me, couldn't put my head into the attic for ages after it!

Saw it in The Cork Opera House very good setting for it I must say.

    the exorcist

I once saw Hallowe'en III (the season of the Witch??) in a hotel room on a business trip.
    There is a scene where
A lady messes about with one of the special badges that came with the masks and did something awful to her face
    .

That seriously scared the bewhatsist out of me. I saw it again sometime later and that scene had been removed.

    I think it's a genuinely scarey film.

Personally I reckon Alien is the one. I saw it in the cinema on its release and the tension in the place was real. Watching it now is noy the same as it was on that night so Alien is the film that stands out more than any other.

Lol I think it was the Grudge that gave me my fear of ducts in roofs! I'm a chicken tho, most recently Paranormal Activity scared the bejesus out of me! :o:(

The first time I ever saw The Ring (remake), it unnerved me. The scene with the well and the hands coming out of it. Sweet Jesus.

The Exorcist III, forget the terrible, terrible 2nd movie, the third is a hugely underapprectiated horror classic, anyone who's seen it will know the scene I'm talking about, two words: nurses station :D, and DONT look up the scene on youtube as taken out of context its not half as scary

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre scared the sh*t out of me. I think it's the scariest thing I've seen. Will have to check out Event Horizon.

    Spot on krudler..!

    It's one of those pitch-perfect scenes -
starts so mellow with the distant camera shot, the simple sounds of a quiet corridor and day-to-day business.. and then the zoom-in and jarring music that really gets you!

    Superb!

I don't find scary movies that bad because I tend to brace myself for them but the scariest moment I've ever seen in a film is from Zodiac when
your man goes, "he didn't draw the posters, I did". Took you by complete surprise because nothing before then hinted at it, the tension in the basement afterwards was magnificent and I thought it was all capped of by the fact that they had built the Gyllanhall's character so well as a "boy scout" that it was really easy to empathise with someone who was walking into a basement with a serial killer. Also, the bit with the lock was really well done
. Watched it again the other night and it was as bad/great as the first time I saw it which is rare

Pet Cemmetary based on Stephen Kings novel.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a big let down for me after all I heard about it.

I'm with you on that, I think the remake of the Ring was one of the only Hollywood versions of a Japanese/Korean horror that's impressed me.

That whole first scene scared the bejesus out of me, and the girl in the wardrobe part... Christ

When i was younger though it was definately IT.

Ive heard alot about REC, is it worth buying?

Modern day horrors my vote would go to drag me to hell, good for jumps and general freaky stuff.

The devils rejects was also good.

but to be honest im much more into the old horrors from the 50's, some of them will scare the shnot outta ya.

Google top 50 classic horrors, take your pick and you wont be dissapointed.

Freaks (1932) is a must see.

1932 was the year of horror!
