    Aww nooo :(
He was just in the local paper at the weekend (photos from 10 or 25 years ago they do every week). He got the Donegal Person Of The Year award back in '98.

Never knew he was sick. :(

    R.I.P

I don't think the Seán McGinley I'm familiar with was ever in CU Burns, and according to his IMDB and Wikipedia pages, the names of his wife and children are different to those of the Seán McGinley in the OP's link. So yeah, two different people it seems.

I think your right - different Sean McGinley it seems.

Sorry - i just read the article, knew that the Sean McGinley i was thinking of was from Donegal and didn't realise that there was 2 of them.

Anyways, still very sad and my condolenses to his Family

Strange, the Independent article mentions a 57 year old Sean McGinley who was best known for some obscure Irish-language drama whereas 'Charlo' has been in dozens of high-profile films and was born in 1956 according to IMDB.

    His Showreel on youtube

If it is him, I thought he was a great actor. I loved him in the little known D'telly I think it was with Pat Shortt where he played a traveller. He was hilarious.

The showreel shows parts of Michael Collins and The General for sure, so that does fit in with the "Sean mcGinley" wiki page that I referenced above. However, wiki has been wrong in the past.

Nah.. I'm thinking it's a different Sean McGinley alright.

The Independent does mention a lot of obscure Irish drama which the Sean (in the showreel above) would more than likely not have featured in.

Don't Actors Equity have a rule about names so this sort of this confusion doesn't happen?

    His Showreel on youtube

    Definitely not this Sean McGinley.

Darkly Ironic that there is this confusion which would have been something seen on CU Burn.

Typical Indo announce the death of an actor with no picture of him thereby causing confusion with his namesake. Idiots!

So the Sean McGinley in the big budget movies like Michael Collins and all those other Irish staples is still alive?

    OK everyone LISTEN UP!

The Sean mc ginley that you all think and is on IMDB is NOT the actor that died. The Sean Mc Ginley who died is an actor also from Gweedore and was a lovely man. So stop being so relieved and insensitive about his death!

Hardly think anyone's done that, to be fair.

I don't think anyone is relived that anyone died. Personally, I am relieved that the Seán McGinley I know of is not dead. That's all really. Obviously it's very sad that the other Seán McGinley did die.

The Seán Mc Ginley that died was a fellow Gaoth Dobhar man, a great family man and for many years an inspirational, talented and very energetic member of Aisteoiri Ghaoth Dobhair a very succesful Irish Language Amateur dramatic group.
With the advent of TG4 in 1996 Seán was involved as an actor and a producer/director of various succesful tv programmes most notably CU Burn.

Unfortunately Sean became ill about 2 years ago and after a brave battle with cancer he died on Saturday. Seán will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends from Gaoth Dobhair and from alot further afield.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh d'anam uasal a Sheáin a Chara.

The other (better known nationally) Seán Mc Ginley is from Donegal but I'm almost certain he wasn't born in Gaoth Dobhair and as far as I know is in the best of health.
