Well it just might be we are in talks with WSM at the moment and they would love to bring it here. What i want to know is would people attend the event, are there companys out there that would sponser it and what do you think.
It is an international sports event that is televised worldwide it would be very posative for the country all feedback gratley received.

    The actual final?

I could see this working however the location is critical. Indoors in a big arena would be ideal however a mystical location like Giant's Causeway / Fingal Fingers would be better especially if misty bit like Iceland back in the 80's when Van De Parre won on the last event!

    Who is 'we'?

There's a 0% chance that I'd go anywhere near Dublin City Centre for it. WSM is a three (?) day event, which means either commuting to see it or staying where it's on.

There's a folk story about Cuchulainn lifting a great stone (6 tons) over the entrance to St Fechainn's monastry in Fore. There must be one-hundred and one back-drops and stories to go along with a 'themed' WSM in Ireland.

Well i cant give too much away but the ten days of events would probably be split up and would take place in 2 or 3 different counties.

The ten days comprise qualifiers and finals.

It would be aired all over the world in 5 30min shows and a 1hr Final

It would be most likely free to attend as it would prob be on in public places.

I am surprised that over 150 people have viewed this and only 3 replies i thought it would get better support especialy on the fitness board i would love to hear any comments posative or negative

    Well I'd certaintly be attending.

I was delighted to discover the codes for channel 5 on boards.ie recently as it'll allow me to watch the worlds strongest man fianls this year. I had missed it the last few years since it moved to Channel 5 from the BBC.

How does this work are you just proposing Ireland as a location or will you take over the running/marketing/logistics of the event if here?

I'm curious because it would all be about €'s behind it. Would there be proper sponsors (Met-RX et al) or would it be left to you? No disrespect to you but this would really need to be properly marketed with at the very least a radio, bus, billboard etc campaign if it were to be more than a few people standing around a field.

There will always be a few real fans who will attend this kind of thing but if you want to get the skinny teenagers who spend €50 a month on supplements with cool names to show up and spend money on more supplements, t-shirts etc at the event it needs to grab their attention.

I noticed in all of the radio ads for Toys for Big Boys the strongman event didn't get a mention which was disappointing.

Strength sports really are a golden opportunity for someone with a bit of acumen to exploit. I mean the MMA section of TFBB is being hyped up on the back of the armchair success of that kind of thing. This new MMA fanbase is made up of 90% slack mouthed morons and 10% people who know anything about it. Those same morons would be turned on just as much by mindless displays of strength as much as they are by mindless displays of violence (maybe not as much but more than they currently are).

Wow. Don't be afraid to speak your mind Kevpants.:D

I'd would love to go see any part of it, finals or not. WSM organisers should see that we had six entrants this year to the UK strongest man, so I reckon it's a rising sport in this country.

I was thinking of Cork as a location for it. The airport is easy to use and the roads infastructure around the city is amazing. Plus it gets regular visits from Cruise Ships who park in Cobh.

In my experience, its normal joe soaps and their kids who attend these events. The Irish strong man in 2007 & 2008 were held in Drogheda and we had a great turn out due to the family nature of the event.

There wasn't a tap out t shirt in sight!

It would be great to see it on here, there are loads of options for locations

It would probably be a good idea to get Failte Ireland on board too, they did a lot of promotion for the WRC when it came to Ireland a few years ago and it was a huge success

Thanks guys for all the replys especially Kev pants.

We are in talks with IMG the owners of WSM who have been great to deal with and they really want to come here and have given us full permission to use there name logo ect and are supplying tones of pics, DVDs ect for promotional work.

How this works: as you can imagine an event like this costs alot of money to run so at this stage we are looking for backers such as Councils, Organisations and Buisness to back the event. This event is free to attend so the promoter has to raise money to cover the running costs and the only way to do this is by getting sponsers and selling locations to councils. The benefit of this event is it will give massive TV exposure to the locations it is held in and would be great for tourism/buisness. At the moment we are putting together a very detailed information pack and scheduling meetings with partys that may be interested.

So if we cant raise the money it wont happen but it is costing money to run this campaign which the promoters are paying for ourselves so if we didnt believe in it we would not be working this hard on it.

We are also running Strongman Champions League Limerick next June and we are in talks with two other events for next year if these go well they will go along way towards helping to get backing for WSM.

It will prob take place in 2011 as next year is too near but if somone has a spare 500K under there bed who knows. It will prob take place in the Munster Region but this is not fixed as we want to spread it between two or three counties for maximum exposure.

WSM will aslo guarentee one Irish entrant so get trainin it could be you. On a serious not we are absaloutly commited to this we are launching SCL Limerick at toys for big boys on Sunday where James Fennley will be doing a demo i think what we do with regards SCL will prove we are very proffesional and enthusiastic about the sport and by running a big event it will help us gain more experience before Worlds Strongest Man.

IMG will also be putting a big Irish Theme on the events which will be great. IMG look after all the external marketing and we do all the National marketing in conjunction with IMG. I welcome all feedback good or bad thats why i posted about the event it would be very posative for the country and would be amazing to watch.

Please check out Strongman Champions League Limerick on Facebook and feel free to ask us questions on Sunday with regards SCL and WSM. I will keep you updated.

    Kind Regards

    Gary

    Gary,

It'd be great if there was never any jealousy, politics or out and out back stabbing.

However this is Ireland and the above is common in most professions.

For whatever reason it is increased tenfold in bodybuilding/ health & fitness arema into which strongman would fall.

Best of luck with it, hope you can pull it all together and that by then we may be able to help out in someway.

In the meantime watch your back and cover your arse! :)
