Hugh always finds a decent price but I gotta oppose High Oscar.

He won this last year but hasn't won since. I think hes worse off in the weights with 3rd and fifth from that win.

    I'm with Sebastiano

high oscar was cruising had he not fallen at the 2nd last he woulda won it imo.

Just noticed Hugh Taylor is +415 since March. Now that is some going but i can't help but think it is not really accurate. As soon as he knocks up his price it's dropped almost immediately. I would love to know how much profit you'd be up if you took sp on all his picks. Anybody have the time to go thorugh it :pac:

BTW I'm in no way Knocking Hugh Taylor here and i do follow him a good bit.

    All Hail Hugh!!

Tha facts are people, it's highly unlikely we'll ever get the price that Hugh Taylor advises so it does paint a different picture. LOL @ -20.25 points though! Wouldn't have taught it be that bad. tbf Dun laoire no-one backs a tip at SP unless they are fools, you have to be quick. Thats a given. It was still a poor month though at any price, only a handful of winners.

I agree nobody will back at sp and only a fool would do so because nearly all firms pay gp. However i've never once gotten his advised price. The bookmaker immiedatley slashes the odds. Would it be a fair assumption to make that the bookmaker will cut the odds before a penny even comes for it? All i'm saying is Hugh Taylor is +415 to date but i don't think anyone else is that would strictly follow his selections. Either way i'm sure you'd be up so why complain? :pac:

    ....

well, I have s**t loads of time on my hands and started looking into this (curiosity (killed the cat)).
According the Racing Post some prices never were that high as those in the logs on ATR website. RP gives SP, OP and says touched bla bla something. I'm in doubt... were they pulled super longs odds from?

p.s. I have to check about 130 races results + some horses' names are incorrect, so it's a bit of investigation csi style, you know tracing the ip's and such... :D:D:D

We all know it is hard to get advised prices on his tips,
but you need to get close if you want to make a profit.

    Here are a few examples
    Advised SP
    4/10/09 1Pt win Alandi @ 10/1 wins @ 5/1 - 5 Pts
    6/10/09 2 Pts win speed guru @ 14/1 wins @ 10/1 - 8 Pts
    7/10/09 1Pt win annes rocket @ 12/1 wins @ 7.5/1 - 4.5 pts
    21/10/09 2 W 1 P Ultimate @ 16 Wins @ 13/2 -9.5 pts
As you can see there is a difference of 27 Pts from advised to SP

You need to be very careful with Hugh. In October he gave 30 consecutive losing tips and in every month since he started he has had a long losing run of between 15 and 23 losers.

Well when i say i follow him a good bit it's generally to make up a lucky 15, 31 etc.. There's no way i could afford to follow his points system if lets say i used 10 euro as a 1 point stake (That would be the norm for the majority of people i reckon). I like Hugh Taylor, he does put up some bold bets and I can appreciate that unlike tipsters who throw up really short price favs as their tips all the time.I just don't think it shows a true reflection of his profits to even the quickest of punter who would back him as per his points system.

I agree. I couldnt find any record for him at SP and when I checked his strike rate I reckoned I didnt have a big enough bank to sustain his losing runs. I stick to Pricewise, but dont back Mel Collier who tips on weds/thurs, and I keep a record of the results the last few months.
I think Hugh Taylor would actually be losing at SP.
Tom Segal is due a few winners, so keep an eye on his tips this weekend the Pricewise Thread.
    Good luck.

just compiled his records from march09 to 20Oct09 with SPs and:
    - SP is shorter than advised price by 36% on average for winning selections
    - if you backed @SP you'd ended up with -183.24pts loss
    - strike rate 20%
    - 22 consecutive losers

I suspected as much. The thing that annoys me about him is the constant hype. He gave 30 consecutive losers and then tipped a winner. Jason Weaver then said on ATR Another winner for Hugh Taylor keeping up his great run............ I nearly fell of my chair!

I remember that. I had followed Hugh through most his bad patch there and was shocked when he said that. 30 losers is not a good run Jason.

    a little update here:
you'd actually come out with a profit if you didn't back anything above odds 8 and bet single stake to win only. profit +51pts over the period mentioned before. ah I love playing with numbers...

edit: I used SP in these calculations and actually profit is +42.71pts because you need some in your bank to start with, about 10pts.

Not sure what you mean about odds 8

Going by HT's bets since september 1 I have the following stats

    241 bets
    Points staked: 444
    Return: 451.23
    Profit/Loss: +6.83pts

using HTs recommended stakes at SP
