Just to update everyone, the new patch has much improved the netcode. I can get a 3-bar connection usually with random people online which now makes for a very playable match. If playing with people in Ireland (i.e. boardsies) you can get a 4-bar which only has a tiny delay between inputs and actions.

So I've sent everyone an invite and I'm expecting some good online matches!
