Pie 101

    apple%20pie.jpg

    This is a pie.
An apple pie to be precise.
Observe the circular shape, one of Aristotle's Perfect Shapes.
Note the glazing reflecting the world in its sugary splendour, through the golden hues of the pastry, adding a touch of royalty to a depiction of an otherwise mundane and banal existence.
See how the pastry lattice contains the magnificent filling, while at the same time allowing one to view the wondrous treats that lay inside, at once protective and exhibitionist. Truly, the humble pie is a paradox.

    A tasty, tasty paradox.

    Paradoxical indeed!

Here we see a man yearning for pie. Is this a deeper reflection of mankind's yearning for the pie of Life? Why is he upside down, hanging by one leg from a rope snare? Why, because Man's quest for pie is fraught with peril! If he is not careful, if he concentrates only on having the pie for himself, he will surely fall, knowing the pie is forever out of reach, yet almost close enough to taste, a never-ending cycle of suffering!

No pictures of pie without a philosophical discussion of said picture. If I wanted pictures of pie I would have started a "post pictures of pie here" thread.

    Get cracking, you lazy bitches.

To pie, or not to pie... that is the pastry.
Whether 'tis nobler in the stomach to chew.
The glazes and fillings of outrageous taste.

Why is pie a tasty treat also used to define a mathematical constant and yet mathematicians leave the "e" off the end.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

The "e" itself is also a mathematical constant (roughly 2.71828)

As we all know, pie is best when cut into tasty slices. Hence the mathematicians taking the slice that is "e". Mathematics is all the richer for it!

    600px-Pi-symbol_svg.png

    π Radians = 180 Degrees
    π = 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510 or 22/7

Uses: Measuring the circumferences, diameters, radii, areas of sectors, areas, and arcs of circles, among other uses.

How are pie and pie related? Well, using pie, you can calculate the circumference, radius, diameter, arc lenghts, area, area of sectors of that pie. All you need to do though, is measure the radius.

Could this be a message from the creator built into the very structure of mathematics? A hint that pi is merely a reflection of the deeper truth of the fundamental pie force behind the universe?

Whatever happened to PYE??....I loved that logo....so comforting.....when you saw PYE you immediately thought of black and white speckles and bad reception and things....Watching TV used to be a very energetic pastime....you had to get off ure arse to change the channel..Ah...those buttons, I remember well those buttons...how they clunked...If you half pressed them, you could see what was on the other channel...yes ...channel...singular...it was a different world....I know...you don't understand...

Knot Theory has in recent years been used to help solve complex protein folding problems, making it an invaluable tool in the field of computational genomics.

I wonder how it would fare when applied to pie? The common pie is a three dimensional beast, occasionally stretching to four when its taste is of such gravity that it warps space and time.

But imagine, what could be accomplished with a pie of five, six, or even seven dimensions? Is such a feat even possible? Surely it would transcend the known universe, echoing back to the earliest picoseconds of the Big Bang itself, and forwards to the heat death of everything that is and ever shall be?

Could we keep the pies in this dimension, eat them, and put our newly acquired chins and bellies in these other dimensions?

When they say to fold in flour in recipes, what do they mean?...damned hard to fold flour so it is...now paper..that's easy to fold....:(
