About 2 months ago I got a nasty back injury. This prevents me from running for the next few months at least, as its brought on by the impact of running, and leaves me almost unable to walk for weeks at a time when it flares up.

Before the injury i used to go running 2-4 times a week. nothing crazy just a few 5-6 km runs. this was more than enough to keep me trim and in shape.

Since ive stopped running/jogging ive found the belly has started to develop. its barely noticeable at the mo but i want to nip this in the bud, so am getting a decent road bike soon so i can get out exercising again(as cycling is low impact), but i hear cycling is not as good as running for burning calories.

The reason i used to run was because it was convenient, i just put on shorts and runners, and go out around my locality for 40 mins. I feel il have to do twice that time on the bike to burn similar calories.

Can anyone advise something else thats low impact and quick to do that i can also do to help burn the calories.

    Swimming maybe.
If you do decide on swimming, talk to your Physio or Osteopath first.

Infact, prolly best if you ask the question to a physio or Osteo rather than a bunch of imaginary people on the internet.

Cycling may not be too good for your back either depending on your exact problem / the bike your using.
