For anyone stuck in the 80`s the perfume shop in Liffey Valley were selling off the large bottles of blue Stratos for 9 euros last week.

    I cleared them out though

There is really no such thing as 'the best fragerance' as each indivudal will have a different chemical reaction with any fragerence. The same bottle of scent can produce two compleatly different aromas on two different people. You try it on, you wear it for a while, then you get someones elses opinion on it.
My personal preference for a cologn is currently D&G The One. It's an old fashioned scent, on a base of musk rather then the current trend of citrus.
Go in to the supplier, get a few samples spreyed onto card and then start to eliminate them one by one till you have your personal favourite. Take your time choosing, spend a week or two trying different scents and always get someone elses opinion...someone who'll tell you the truth.
    Enjoy.

If anyone feels this thread should be moved to F&A let me know.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

    Making you smell less attractive.

Gucci envy for day and Rochas Lui for evenings.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Some guy got on the bus the other day and whatever he was wearing actually put me and my friend into a hypnotic trance!
    It was amazing!

My friend's boyfriend reckons it was Jupe. So, I'm going to say Jupe :P

I also think Calvin Klein has nice fragrances. Oh, and Monsieur Balmain ... the lemony one. That's yum!

    Lad. Faranheit by Dior.

I highly recommend Chanel Allure Homme (it's a bit pricey though)

For something older, I also love CK Truth and the original Paco Rabanne (green bottle - fairly cheap now).

I've also been experimenting with after shave balms. I love this one! Mrs Bankman is quite the fan.

Another vote for Gaultier's Le Male here, the amount of comments i get at work and when i go out about it never ceases to amaze me, one night i walked up to a bar and a group of girls were standing with their backs to me and I overheard the nearest one sniff the air air say "ooh, someone smells ****able" that made my night :)

Gucci pour homme 2 the blue wan is lovely and partial to a bit of Joop also.

There's a Gaultier one I love, and a Hugo Boss one I love, but I don't know which ones! Also, Davidoff Cool Water is lovely, and so is the David Beckham one, original I think.

    Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male

    212 Sexy Man

If Im feeling a bit retro then Davidoff Cool Water is the way to go.

My favourite is Incense by Givenchy. I think its discontiued but I've had a bottle for years, its like an everlasting gobstopper.

I wear Boss on day to day basis and Insense for special occassions.

Also fond of Joop and RL Polo Sport.

Having sold fragrance for a number of years I found that Joop and Jean paul Gaultier 'Le Male' were the two fragrances most favoured by rednecks and tinkers.

    Please DON'T do it guys;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,640 ✭✭✭✭OldGoat

Thats interesting Madam R. Not the redneck reference  but that you sold scents. Did you have any training or were you just there to push the newest lines in stock?

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,252 ✭✭✭✭Madame Razz

Training and a very strong personal interest:)

However in general the Irish are very naive in their approach to fragrance and aren't particularly interested in the science:rolleyes:

I bought an Eau de Parfum for my OH recently. Now THAT is something ye men should keep your eyes open for;)

I'd recommend this book for anybody in anyway interested in a decent overview:)

Interestingly in said book they describe Joop as being akin to floor cleaner:pac::P

Fresh woody, a little sharp; given that it's Givenchy they could have done a bit better. But if it works for you then go for it;):D:p

CK IN2U - its either my great charm or the fragrance the does the magic

How do i know if it works for me i thought you wear it and women throw them selves at you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,640 ✭✭✭✭OldGoat

Thanks for the book recomendation Madam R, I've added it to my book stack (that is now almost at toppling height).
I finished off a bottle of eau de parfum recently, citrus based and I think thats why I've moved away. The strength of the parfum was a little overpowering and it took me a few applications to get a ballance. Those first few times I wore it I must have smelt like a bordello.

Anyway, appologies for going off thread.
Another fragerence I did rate was Acqua Di Parma. I just got bored with it though Mrs. Goat still leaves it out for me to wear. Wimminz!

I'm 23 and a guy. I quite like Armani Mania, And I usually get compliments when I wear it. Its been a favourite of mine for a while. Kinda citrusy.

I added my age because I've read that as you get older different fragrances better suit you as you get older. And citrus smells are better suited to younger men.

Speaking from experience, many years in bars and clubs - English women love Hugo Boss, you'd be surprised at how many Irish women go simple drool over (as Moonbaby said) soap and a freshly pressed shirt.

And skangers - Joop, which is a pity because I actually like it a lot - but they've made it their own so it ain't for me anymore.
