Pretty straight forward, how many subjects are you doing in school for Leaving 2010/2011 and if you're doing extra ones at home put it in the post. Just curious to see what most people have.
I have 7 subjects, and am doing Applied Maths at home (trying anyway).

EDIT: Post the subjects too actually, I'm doing maths, English, Irish, German, physics, chemistry and biology at school.

Y'know, they're always on the Independent after the exam results, the guy/girl who get 12 A1's.

I'm doing seven; English,Irish, maths,French, chemistry, physics and economics. I'm a repeat, and I originally dropped maths (got a D2 in the higher level paper this year) but I was getting really bored so I picked it back up :) I think 7-8 is the ideal,I've never understood this trend of doing 11 or 12 subjects. Seems pointless, but I am a bit of a waster,in fairness, hence the repeating :p

Seven, was considering taking up another outside of school but decided against it. Sevens enough work for me!

I saw the fella on the news who got 9 A1's, that seemed fairly mental:eek:
But thats 3 extra subjects he did for no reason:rolleyes:
He should've stuck to the 7

any more than 8 and your taking the piss IMHO!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,962 ✭✭✭jumpguy

Oh sorry it was 9 A1's he got.

Anyone doing 12 subjects must seriously love study.

    Im doing 7-Maths-English-Irish-History-German-Geography- Biology!

Like it a bit useless doing more than 8 like what you going to use it for or unless they really love the subject!

6 English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Geography and Art
I'm a repeat so I got my requirement in Irish last year. I sometimes wonder if I should have taken up another subject, since art can be a hard enough one to get high marks in, but my timetable didn't really allow for it, so I'm on six!

You can do as many subjects as you want, a fella in my school back about 15 years ago did 21 subjects just to prove that the leavind cert can be passed without doing as much study as said,he did all pass and I dont think he got over 250 points.

I'm doing 7 subjects at the moment, English,Irish,Maths,Physics,French,History and Business. Really considering taking up Applied Maths.Any recomendations on which book to use?

I've been advised by pretty much everyone and I'm using it myself: Fundamental Applied Mathematics by Oliver Murphy.

ok just to clear things up a bit, technically you can do as many subjects as you want i think as long as your not restricted by some conditions i think buoone has ever done that many, ive never heard of anyone doing ten, doubt anyone does. nine A1s is the most anyone has ever gotten and usually theres one ever year and im sorry but the quote above is utter bull... "some guy like 15 years ago" thats just some stupid urban myth in yur school, i'm sorry didnt happen.
oh yeah and im doing 8 atm, might drop one or two if i hate them an might start applied maths

It's not bull,he did it to prove that the leaving cert wasnt as hard as it was made out to be.Why would the teachers lie? They were'nt having a laugh when they said it.Its not an urban myth, sorry to point out.

There are some subject combinations that cannot be taken.
Doing 12 subjects is ridiculous and sounds like looking for notice.

    9 -
English, Irish, Maths, French, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Applied Maths, Religion.

But Irish is at ordinary level - so i am basically discounting that.

my daughter is doing irish, english, french, maths, business, history and music in school and is teaching herself economics, and as we speak german at home, she is doing that as well, but she only took up music a little while ago, the teacher is really supportive, but she is stressed out as she is so far behind compared to the rest of the class, most of whom have been doing music theory and since they were 8 years old.

I'm doing 8 - English, Irish, Maths, French, Physics, Chemistry, Accounting and Applied Maths after school.
I'm not doing 8 for the craic, it's because I'm crap at languages and this way I'll only have to count one. Why on earth would anyone do 12 subjects? I mean seriously don't these people have a life?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,039 ✭✭✭Seloth

    English,Irish,Maths,Biology,Economics,Ag,Science,History and Japanese

    so yeah 8 in all.

Irish, maths and Jap are all Oridnary level and the rest are higher...I just want the pass in my ordinary level tbh,If Igot higher than a D in them I'd be estatic!

With the cutbacks there was around 30 people in H. french and i did ty and had the most useless teacher for 5th year so i couldn't keep up with french unless i had one to one help, which was impossible.

Mon prof de Francais is terrible so I'm not sure about doing honours in it yet. Although I could do pass now and get a good mark.
