I've heard a lot of lalk but yet nothing in the media in relation to drop in prices of new cars for the above models. BMW, Audi and Volvo have slashed their prices. Someone has mentioned to me a 8-9% drop for VW and the same for Škoda.
    Any idea?

Not confirmed yet or anything but i've heard similar things from an extremely reliable source.:)

Whats more i've heard that one of those marques may be making all its cars UK spec:D

    Watch this space definitely...

    Thanks Zonda.

Škoda already has higher spec than it's UK equivalents. I am not sure if this is thnroughout the range but I'm confident about Octavia.

In some areas yes but not in others. For example, if the Superb becomes UK spec, the base model will gain alloys but lose out on climate control for manual air-con. The Octavia would certainly stand to gain however, air con would be totally standard and the most common ambiente spec would get alloys. The Fabia would also be nicely specced upwards, the mid range model should get 15" alloys and aircon.

I hope this comes through because for 21k€ LIST PRICE, one would be able to get an nicely specced Octavia with the brand new 104€ road tax 1.6TDi 105bhp engine. Thats good value for money. Whats more a Superb Greenline should be about €24k which is a lot of car for the money

Ive heard VW is 8% on average across the range. Havent heard Skoda reductions yet. Prices have been presented to the dealer networks but havent been released to Media yet.

I was at a Honda dealer during the week and the dealer said that Audi etc are going to reduce prices by about 10%. The dealer also said that Honda will be having a meeting this week in relation to doing the same. Believe it when I see it though.

Audi have already brough their prices down by 9% earlier this month.

Wouldn't mind finding out about Skoda/VW discounts myself!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,533 ✭✭✭Zonda999

We should know more in the next week or two.

On the VW front though, they've already advertised the polo as being from €14.595 so presumably that price will stay as is

I think this is a given.

Since Audi have reduced their prices across the board their lesser siblings now appear more expensive. Somebody who is in the market for an Octavia or Leon might now be able to stretch to a Golf. Same goes with somebody buying a Golf, they might now be able to stretch to an A3.

Those that don't adjust their prices will be left with an even smaller market share in an already very weak market.

    Agree,
Škoda had a meeting of main dealers on Friday but so far, everzbody is tight-lipped. I will hopefully be ordering my Octavia tomorrow so I might find out more (and share it here)

If i was you i would hold off until the official price release and make sure you defo get the new lower prices.

Saw an ad for an Octavia 1.9 diesel DSG with alloys and climate control for 21950 iirc. That spec suggests it is an elegance, which has a list price of 27160. So that's a discount of nearly 20%.

    where'd you see that ad?!?

The dealer gave me a good price for my car (2003 Corolla Luna). i asked him about the price drop and he said that he gave me a fair price and a reduction would not have any impact on the deal. He said something like:
The thing about a price drop is that they are looking at it with an internal margin drop also, this means that it is not likely to have an impact on your trade in allowance (I have to wait for the outcome of the meeting before I know).
. Therefore I am unsure if I will get a better price for my trade in. If I were going for a straight, cash deal, things would be different.

I'd stick my own car up for sale privately based on that...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

If Skoda reduce the retail price of the Octavia I would think it will reduce the flexibility of a cash discount that a dealer can give as their margin will then be lower I'd imagine.

    Swings and roundabouts.

    Not necessarily Bazz.

Im sure Skoda/Others will have worked out a cheaper price of purchasing from Skoda themselves meaning the margin will be protected.

When my company reduce our pricing we only do this when we receive a lower price from the distributor thereby protecting our margin(my mortgage payment).

In the "driving" supplement of the Sunday Times (Irish edition)

I thought it was a decent enough price, until I spotted it was DSG

(so not only do you get the lovely transmission, but the higher VRT rate was included too)!

The ad included service pricing that looked sharp too. Timing belt job on any Skoda for €495, including VAT from a main Skoda dealer. That's good value too.

I think the 1.6tdi octavia elegance is costs around 20k and only 100 euro road tax:) now thats a bargain.

Any *'s to say its not €495 on the TFSI & new CR TDI?
I think I saw €495 somewhere but not for those models??....or maybe I'm just losing it :o

Doesn't quite work that way with motors most of the time unfortunately :(

Audi margins were reduced when the price cuts were announced, I'd expect VW and Skoda to follow suit. Volvo margins were also reduced when their prices went down last week.

Hopefully a few more manufacturer's will also follow suit and kick start sales for the New Year.

My understanding (I stand to be corrected) is that up to now almost all major car dealers had a 11% margin. I..e if the price of a new car was 30 K, they could easily drop the price by 3000 Euro and still make a small profit.

I'll correct you on this then ;)

Some of the "volume" manufacturer's (Opel, Ford, Nissan) had / have margins in excess of 11%. BMW/Mini/Mercedes/Volvo/Honda/Audi/VW/Saab have margins much smaller than that.

Cheers for that. The father will be interested in that me thinks. But that timing belt price isn't great. I had mine done (including tensioners and water pump) by a main dealer for 170 less than that:eek:

I'm presuming that also includes a service though...

Not to the same extent as Ford/Opel, but a bit more than Audi/VW.

If anyone is thinking of going for the 1.6 CR TDCi version, make sure to take a test drive first.

According to the brochure it has the same torque and power figures as the outgoing 1.9Tdi, but we got our first one in last week and I was very dissapointed with the performance. Engine was very quite and smooth, but there was absolutley nothing happening under 1,750rpm or over 3,000rpm. It was only a short spin up to the fuel station and back, and it did seem a bit better on the way back, but I'd hate to think what it will be like in the bigger, heavier Passat

I'd imagine it will be somewhere between the 1.6D Volvo S80, and the SS Jahre Viking.

I havent driven the 1.6TDi yet, but i have heard similar reports to your's ROR. It should go down well in this coutry though. Cheaper insurance for a decent sized, diesel hatch.

Have driven the 1.6 TDI Golf with DSG and I have to say I liked it, compared to the 1.6 petrol version its a much more relaxed drive - with the 1.6 petrol in DSG I found myself in semi-auto when needing to 'up the pace a little' ... haven't found myself doing this at all with the the TDI ... haven't found it lacking for pace. I think that this car will sell very well on the irish market - suits the average joe's needs very well ... hopefully a 1.4 killer! :)

Where? I'm under the impression that the Skoda's on the last boat in to Ireland are the first 1.6Tdi VAG cars to arrive here.

Wasn't aware it was going to come in DSG, might be able to keep it on the Turbo with the DSG.

In Northern Ireland ... perhaps they are not to be available down here so. Had a look on the vw.ie website to see what the pricing down here would be and couldn't see it. Didn't look too closely though as am not in the market for one .. have to say its very nice 7 speed DSG ... perfect for the TDI

The price for the new Octavia RS (Diesel) has gone down from 30.500 to 28.180 Euros. Another interesting thing is that up to now, the car came standard with Swing radio. They upgraded this to Bolero and added rear parking sensors.

One thing I 'm sorry I could not afford were the dimmed rear (outside) mirrors for the car. Read great things about them but very expensive (~500 Euros)
