A lot of people have them, I have one and they are great, they're very reliable and there is no parts to lose except the pin. South East Airsoft have a great deal on the shells, for €2 you get a shell and C02 cartridge.
Make sure you screw the shells on tight so that the gas doesn't vent.
They are very easy to set up aswell. You don't even have to arm them, they are a great decoy.
    Ger.:)

Yeah they're bloody great, got mine in South East Airsoft as well. I would highly recommend them.

I was talking to Andy and he was saying that you shouldn't put BBs in them as they fire out at well over the 1j limit. Just a little heads up!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭Dread-Lock

Thanks for the warning, but I've never actually put BB's in mine. They rattle worse then a hi-cap .

Guys they are not made to fire bb's. You can use powder to give a smoke effect, cornflour is best & no more than 50g. :)

I realised that. I'm like brainiac: Science abuse, I do the testing so you don't have to. :D

Brilliant grenades. However ... :o ... painful if they go off close to your ear.
If any of you carry these on a chest ring (like the real ones) and play in woodland, may I suggest a "Jungle Clip" like in the pics below.
Apparently the US guys in Vietnam had the same problem I had last Sunday when running through woodland.
I'm making my own clips as a secondary safety besides the pin.
If anyone else makes one, please let me know the wire you used.
    Thanks

Your best bet is to put one pin in the top hole and the other in the bottom hole on the opposite side, that should be a lot safer.

Nice one, I'll try that and the jungle clip for the crack.

I thought it was only illegal if the "weapon" firing the BB had a barrel?
Most people wear full masks or some kind of scarf these days.

(Disclaimer: I only use goggles and still wouldnt mind someone using this with BB's.....face shots hurt so it makes you more careful :P )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61 ✭✭BBones

They work great once they're fully tight i bent the end of the pin slightly to make it harder to pull out to stop s**t happening and iv'e heard that using water in them softens the bang!Remember the more powder or liquid you use the shorter the delay!!

Nope as Andy said, once the shell explodes and the BBs are expelled the shell counts has a muzzle.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,401 ✭✭✭Arcto

That cant be right. That means a leaf blower firing tennis balls would be illegal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

How can it not be right?
And it well could be, it could possibly be firing a projectile at over 1j, but this is the airsoft forum not the backyard antics one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,401 ✭✭✭Arcto

Not the back yard antics form? Oh sh1t sorry guys. I totally stumbled across this place looking for the other form!

What im saying is: If that grenade becomes illegal because it can fire a BB at over 1J then it shouldnt be sold, should it? That would be the same as buying an AEG that can fire at 500FPS but not using it. Its still illegal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,901 ✭✭✭T4RGET

ow yea see what you're saying.
But when they were making it , they probably didn't think of it.

The grenade is legal, Rhinocharge stated earlier in the tread that the grenade isn't designed to propel BB's from it.

Ah but the issue is, your not supposed to fire BB's with it, it was designed as a noise maker. Hence the name "Thunder" Grenade.

They more than likely did think of it, but remember these grenades are produced in a country with a higher fps limit too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,401 ✭✭✭Arcto

    Apparently not :D

How much do those co2 cart's go for?
Practically this would only be good on a CQB course, but it would still be farkin awesome to have one for the Mil Sim effect!

one other great thing i use them in the sniper club for is booby traps for example over a door and trip wire it (thanks for the idea rhinocharge :P )

co2 cartridges are around 1 euro each I think.

Also, it's not that bad in woodland either. U just have to think on your feet.

Cheers. Sounds good at a yoyo a pop.

Do any sites run radius rules? I know some run rules where if your in a room and a nade goes off your "dead".

It depends if I'm marshalling I run a 5 metre blast radius rule, if you're within 5 metres of the grenade you're hit. If you're in a room with a dividing wall and the door is open you're hit, if the door is closed you aren't.

its the only real way to use them same rules as phyros i the uk most time, only thing to check is if the site you play on allows there use, i know some sites do not allow them because of the db output, so bets to check before investing :)

Thats not a bad idea. I'm gonna give the wire off a wire coat hanger a shot and see how well it works. I'll let you know how it pans out.

Well you also have to replace the shell as well, but its €2 for a shell and a CO2 cartridge in SEAirsoft.

Yeah a wire coat hanger worked pretty nicely for me: Armed and Disarmed. As you can see in the pictures I put a little bit of heat shrink tubing on the end to stop it from scratching up my grenade (or scratching it more anyway).

When I pull the pin all I have to do is push it down and to the left a little and the spoon shoots up without any problems. It would also make a pretty nice trigger for a trip wire as its more sensitive.

This was only a rough copy, to see if it would work. Next I'm going to make a better one where it clips over the edge of the spoon (like in Hitman's pics on page 1) so that even if it falls on the ground it wont go off (or at least less likely to).

So the CO2 instantly vents, blowing the casing to smithereens via rapid pressure increase? Is that how they work or am I wrong? I want one now.

not quite smithereens - more like a fracture, but yep - you got it in one. :)

Get one - best value grenade about. (imo)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 452 ✭✭Phractal

Thanks, now I know how to (ab)use mine :D

Loading with unpopped popcorns or seeds is one idea for 'frag' effect :D

I wish we could load w/ BB's! Imagine the FUN!

Pretty much. The CO2 is released as the capsule is pierced by the hammer & spring mechanism on the top. The casing rapidly inflates to failure point along a seam. The seam fails suddenly with a BANG. Perfectly safe bar the sound which hurts slightly at close range e.g when stuck on your chest !
Great for booby traps. Best Grenade design so far imo.
It just splits open, there's no blowing to smithereens, the effect is deadly nevertheless.

lol you guys find this painfully loud? I know loud... Try 20 grams high explosive detonating two inches from your right hand. Some odd, strange, miracle saving your hand (but destroying your nerves, ears, and causing considerable burns, lacerations, nerve damage, bone-breaking, etc) requiring plastic surgery to reconstruct the hand.

Thats why I aint the fastest reactions no more - me trigger finger was so close to obliteration. To think it was only Easter 2008 that happened...

Eardrums were blown out me asshole for a while from that. I reckon these will be 'fairly loud' but not 'painfully loud'.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,340 ✭✭✭deco nate

you are not meant to use unpoped popcorn, seeds or bb's,only flour type stuff cos it will shoot out over 1j

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 452 ✭✭Phractal

1J is .2g goin at 100m/s APPROXIMATELY. Seeds are light. A 0.05g seed can go 400m/s and still be 1J. A 1gram projectile can only go at 20m/s. THe 1g at 20m/s may well go farther than the .05 at 400m/s as the heavier projectile retains velocity, and kinetic energy, more efficiently. Irs simple physics. I bet seeds would be legal ya know! I may test it!
