I quit smoking three months ago and have been bold with chocolate etc and have put on a stone. It didnt help that I let my thrice weekly gym sessions slide for about a month as well as had been ill with a bad chest infection etc.:( I now have something REALLY important to go to next weekend and nothing will fit and I want to look nice. I know quick fixes are not advisable but any tips on how I can lose some poundage sharpish before then? Just to get rid of my double chin and to feel less bloaty etc? Anything that will speed up my metabolism? Should I go carb free for the week? Green tea? Any recommendations HUGELY appreciated!

What you're looking for here is called a miracle not a quickfix.

What you're looking for here is called a miracle not a quickfix.

Memorise how it feels to feel bloaty, fat, icky... now ask yourself whether you want to feel like this again. If the answer is "Yes, I don't mind!" then pop to the shops for more chocolate.

If the answer is "No, I hate feeling like a blimp" then go about drawing up a good diet and workout plan.

With regards next weekend... you're kinda screwed. Leaving yourself 6 days to lose a stone was daft. Just get something that fits, and resolve not to let it happen again.

Treat it like all mistakes - its worth making if you learn from it. As a side not, fair play on giving up smoking.

I didn't ask for advice on how to lose a stone in six days, that's ridiculous. I have every intention of drawing up a good diet plan and getting back to the gym. I was asking how one could go about losing a few pounds in a six days, i.e. 3-4 lbs to give me a good head start and just make me feel a bit better by next weekend.

Just eat well - consult the diet sticky. That, and work your lady nuts off in the gym. If I were you, for this week I'd knock it up to five days in the gym (Mon-Fri) and burn yourself out every day. Its not sustainable but for one week it MIGHT help. That and eating like a saint :)

Give up all junk food and fizzy drinks (obviously)

Cut carbs WAY down. Limit them to breakfast time if you can. Drink lots of water and base all your meals around meat/fish/eggs/veg/nuts and seeds. You will probably drop a few pounds in water weight doing this and will look less soft and bloaty. You'll also just look better generally speaking.

There's not a whole lot you can do really. If I were you I'd probably....

-eat protein only with a small bit of fat
-hit the gym monday to friday, do weights and cardio
-chill out in the sauna for 15 minutes after each workout
-don't eat any salt, avoid all food (where practical) with salt added to it
-I would recommend incrasing water now for 3 days to 5l per daay and running itdown over the last couple of days to get a bit less bloated, but I'm guessing you're going to a halloween party so you REALLY don't wanna be dehydrated when you're drinking

Won't see any drastic changes, but you could easily lose 6lb in a week doing that. It's not sustainable AT all like, and will probably come back on within a day or two, but it's worth a shot.

the question can't be answered properly until you post up your current diet and your training plan.

For short term shrinkage it's worth considering getting a "wrap" at a beauty salon. It lasts about a week if I remember correctly. Basically it just compresses your fat, but it makes you look slightly thinner. Also, by eating less you're gonna notice the weight (which isn't all fat) fall off generally for two reasons:

    1) Because you're eating less, you'll have less in your intestines
    2) You'll be storing less energy in your muscles

Don't let yourself think that you've lost half a stone in a week or whatever, it's not real weight loss.

On the diet front: Eating healthily for the week will make a difference. You can probably shift about 3lb's of fat in the week that's in it if you work hard and watch what you eat.

    Good luck!
