A novelty mask was hardly needed in fairness. Just stick Leo Cullen on the poster.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,123 ✭✭✭Spore

    Team Announced:

    15. Rob Kearney
    14. Girvan Dempsey
    13. Brian O’Driscoll
    12. Gordon D’Arcy
    11. Isa Nacewa
    10. Shaun Berne
    9. Chris Keane
    8. Jamie Heaslip
    7. Sean O’Brien
    6. Kevin McLaughlin
    5. Nathan Hines
    4. Devin Toner
    3. Mike Ross
    2. Bernard Jackman
    1. Ronan McCormack

Replacements: John Fogarty, CJ van der Linde, Malcolm O’Kelly, Stephen Keogh, Simon Keogh, Jonathan Sexton, Luke Fitzgerald

Interesting picks, some forced, some not. Be keen to see how Berne gets on at ten would prefer him at twelve myself. SOB has a gilt edged opportunity to nail down seven with Jennings suspension. Just shows Leinster's strength in depth - very strong team.

Would have liked to see more of McFadden. God awful halfbacks, but other than that its a pretty decent team.

Shame there's no POD. He injured or just experience being chosen/rewarded?

Keane acquitted himself well against Dragons but the experimental nature of this team gives me a bit of a scare considering Ulster are looking a lot stronger these days.

McFadden has been way more useful than berne this season. What gives?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 123 ✭✭Ceartgoleor

Berne is the only other option at 10 besides Sexton, because you can't hope to slot Nacewa in there and you don't want to go down to the Academy. McFadden looks a great prospect, but it will be tough for him to get a run with the competition around him.

Wonder could we drag Andy Dunne or someone up from the AIL?

(Not advocating that, just curious as to how that works.)

Wouldn't mind seeing Ian McKinley have a shot to be honest, Hes going to be some player!

Imagine it would be McKinley, Madigan or Tonnetti from the Academy like RugbyFanatic suggested before they would ever turn to the AIL. But definitely I believe the next choice is Berne after Sexton, and even then I'd imagine they'd try Nacewa

I'd be curious as to what Cheika thinks of the whole 'Nacewa at 10 thing.' I mean, he's got a lot of the skills (but not the requisite kicking) ya need, but just didn't quite work out.

I think Nacewa is class. He had a poor start, but basically through all of 2009 he has showed the quality that I think he was brought over her as a result of, but does anyone else have the impression that he plays everything off the cuff? He never looks like he has any inclination whatsoever of what he's intending even moments before he does it imo, but its fortunate it often works out for him.

Thats okay in a winger, or a full back you can bring into the line when it suits, but not what you want in a ten you're trying to structure the game around

Touch of the Spencer's about him alright. Makes things harder in the more structured game plans that make up modern rugby.

    He could a Plan B

If things are completely in the ****ter with 10mins to go put Nacewa 10 and pray that he somehow magically pulls 30 points out of the bag through a master stroke of eccentric play.
