Is this one a reshell?I seem to remember someone saying that it is.
anyone have a taxbook for one?
Why so...?Then the imported car isnt a genuine irish car.So whats the point. Not cool.
There is a list of cars and Reg numbers, but i didnt compile it,so its not mine to give out,im sure the guy who originally did it up will PM you if he wants to disclose it as he posts on here.

Please note that any references to other owners will be deleted.
As for someone offering copies of their tax book to an unknown internet user, well you'd have to be mad!

Think its slightly less, and very very few genuine cars left,as is typical in ireland, nothing seems to last over 20 years.
A friend of mine had an irish one some years back, and that one was crashed by the guy he sold it to.:(Twas a clean car too.
There was 40ish sold here new,how many are in the country now, they are everywhere.

doesnt bother me,look at the condition he keeps his car in(if its his).

the way i look at it is better then some oul lad who doesnt give a damn about it

Supposedly 48 irish ae86's sold back in the day alright .
Some dead and buried and others have been restored or are being currently restored.
Many many of them rally cars now also .

    @Lightning .
Thats isnt the owner of that '84 Gold . He is in the pic alright but is not the lad with the gold chain bling blinging around . That was taken at Mosney this year .

I know of 2 orig irish cams in Donegal anyway, 1 is gold IH reg in a shed bein restored....quite rotten and another i cant remember the reg but its blue and was on the road untill recently but is also very rotten...
I like the ae86 lads that keep there cars v well and respect them but its the dickheads that thrash them round junctions at rallies that rag me as they have spoilt rallying and motorsport in general and given proper ae86 owners/drivers a bad name.
I mean the whole 'diffin' scene, how do you get so much satisfaction from burstin your car goin round and round and round and round in circles???? I fail to understand and ive had more sierras than any a them but never welded a diff in 1. I remember about 8 or 9 yrs ago i bought a 318is bmw with a welded diff for cheap to see for myself what the fuss was about, sold it after a fortnight how bloody boring round and round and round, for variety lets try break the diff by dumping the clutch trying to change direction and wow lets do a figure 8 again pulling the car apart, My wee cousin was 14 at the time and he could diff away at the BMW in our yard........i mean how difficult or skillfull is it??......not very. the highlight of the thing for most is 'takin er tight round the cone' i mean really for f**k sake.

Driftin is marginally better and some lads are **** hot at it, it requires a bit of speed and to be fair a lot of skill take Declan Munnelly in the Kawasaki green mk2 escort feckin legend driver and is much more entertaining to watch than getting dizzy lookin at some skinhead numpty with a gold chain and an earing diffin a sierra in 1st gear on the limiter untill the tyres blow out........and the retards in the crowd cheer madly, i mean come on:mad:

Hi all, been lurking on this forum for quite a while but seeing this post made me want to reply.

9130IH belonged to a friend of mine many moons ago, I repaired the heater in it (dash out, resoldered pipes, pig of a job). Bodywise it was ok but it had a pretty poor respray done. It looks a lot nicer now!

Previous to that the same mate owned another irish GT, KZV600, light metallic blue.

    There was also
    900ZY, dark metallic blue
    925ZY white
    MZV16, dark metallic blue
    ****AI , light metallic blue
    XZY*** ,Gold

All of these were earlier, pre-facelift type and all around the Dundalk area back in the day!

Needless to say there were numerous Northern and English ones about too.

    Cheers

    Tom

Can I ask how a re shell is done seeing that the registration is carried over? I thought that Irish registration numbers can not be transferred from one chassis number to another?

So if it was re shelled, that means new chassis number and a different reg number?

For the person looking for reg's of Irish Twin Cams, 8388ZX was a silver one. Apparently it was rolled in the early 1990's and I haven't a clue what happened it after that.

sad to think that most of them seem to have ben written off/stolen/burned, and the last few are rally cars, suppose that's a good way for them to end their days but it'd be nice to see the odd one actually driving on the road.

I'd imagine some of those reg's may still be alive but the original car long gone

Looks like this is all the cars left so? Though with rally cars you can never be sure whats what, and most of them seem to have ended up that way sadly. At least a few are being restored.

I didnt,i just dated them. Seems theres two types of twin cam enthusiasts, the guys that want to go diffin',and the real enthusiasts that want to see cars back to their original state. The lad who worked out that list is one of the latter.

More than likely so. Friend of mine had 459KZK back in the late 90s,lovely car it was too. It was sold and meant to have hit a tree soon after. Its listed as possibly S/O/B.but iirc when i saw it it was all metallic blue.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4 tomsprint

7750AI - couldn't remember the numbers, light blue metallic, on superlites.
An absolute minter - owned apparantly by someone connected to McCabes Toyota garage in Ardee as far as I remember. My mate was driving KZV600 at the time which was the same colour and on the same wheels but a lot rougher!

That car (7750AI) was a really clean car but I heard it didn't last much longer, written off I think:(

    I'd say around '94 or '95

    Cheers
    Tom

a mate of mine bought DZS 402 off a garage man in lietrim many many moons ago and she was a minter back then , silver over black pre facelift model , the guy brought us for a test drive in it that night and i thought it was a mental yoke to go back then , my mate kept it for a while then sold it on , must find out where and ask him for a photo !

Interesting, that's my hometown so wonder if I know the owner.
There are quite a few AE86s around those parts. Many driven by your standard imbecile.
I seem to remember back in the day there were a couple with old Irish regs. Possibly a gold one, it's been a long time.

There can only be one 'carchaeologist' .:D

Good to see this getting a bit of interest .
I compiled the above list over the last while . With help from a lot of good lads and Mr.Carchaeologist off here on the reg date side of things .
Lads mainly off ae86irl which i am a former administrator of .

Sure we all know the stereotype and tis easy hate . But i for one am far from a spotty baseball cap wearing teenager out to blacken crossroads .
I know plenty lads that are genuine proper enthusiasts of the model and despise messing and pricking on the roads .

Great to see the old irish cars about . A lot were built up as rallycars in the 90's as the early model '84/'85 was not as sought after as the preferred facelift '86/'87 car .

One large hurdle in compiling the list is, the proper day1 1987 'irish' cars cant really be identified with the newer style reg's introduced . The old irish reg twincams are obvious but im sure there must be original '87 ae86's out there sold out of irish dealers from new .
    The hunt goes on ...........;)

If you have any possible regs, most lads on here would have rough idea how many cars were reg'd in 1987 in their respective counties. For instance in Kerry there were approx 2000 cars sold before 1988. Iv heard tell of a 1989 registered AE?

Interesting. She was rolled sometime before the end of 1994 by owner no.2. I'd love to know what happened her after that. It would have been an exceptionally tidy original car before this happened.
143-AIN is another interesting one. She's a yellow rally car which I have seen out on the stages for years since the early 1990's, but is shown as a diesel Lancer on Cartell

Interesting because they are local cars B+H? Dunno why it would be a lancer though.

About 2 months ago I met a 1990 reg one in Stranorlar. He was heading up through the top after going through a checkpoint.

Me thinks there was some messing going on there!

My mate had a really clean one but sold it on. I had the pleasure of driving it on a good few occasions. They were, IMO, way ahead of their time but the bump in the floor annoys my left leg when on long journeys
