Liposuction abroad

Right I'm asking this for a friend, a stupid freind but a friend all the same.

She is only 20 and is getting this done, the quotes she has got in Ireland are for €3.2k.

She has got a loan from the bank for €2.5k and am just wondering if anyone here knows anybody that has got this preformed abroad and how much it costs.

If it's the wrong place just move it as I've no idea where it goes.

Also any ideas on how I can get her to change her mind.

It can cost roughly the same abroad, depending on the quality of the clinic and reputation of the consultant surgeon.

It's a very invasive procedure and she could develop internal bleeding or contract an infection afterwards and might need to be treated locally.

If you want to get her to change your mind, then google some of the recent deaths of women in this country and in the UK who were undergoing liposuction.

There was a Dublin clinic that closed down in the last few years after such a death, the name escapes me at the moment.

If she really, really, really wants to get it done, then she needs to be a bit weary of some of the private clinics in Dublin who basically do not have any resident plastic/cosmetic surgeons but instead fly specialists over from the UK on a weekend basis.

Personally I think that she's far too young to even consider this option - the tried and trusted stragegy of less pies and more exercise would be a lot less expensive and far less risky to her health.

    Hi :)

this is written in context to your friend, as if I were mailing her personally...

Up until two weeks ago I was hell bent of having liposuction done on my thighs.
I've got back and shoulder injuries so the weight has crept on. Walking is not my favourite thing to do.
I spent months researching everything about it - from the different methods of performing lipo (laser, vaser, vibration, ultrasound, tumescent ect)
to the differences in liposuction itself (smartlipo, lipo sculpting, you name it).

I had full intentions of travelling to Budapest and then decided on Marbella as I thought that both would be significantly cheaper than here at home.
So research in mind and a full list of questions on paper I booked to see three different surgery groups HERE to get some home grown quotes.
With all three surgeons I was met with amusement,
especially the last one I saw - it was him, indirectly who made me REALLY think that I was throwing my money away. And he actually SAID so.
He basically told me lay off the take aways and do some excercise,
that liposuction would NOT change my shape dramatically nor very much at all,
and also that I would be left with loose skin but if I still wanted to proceed then Id better make a huge effort to excercise afterwards,
for life or else Id be back to him again within a year.

The man was being honest and couldnt care less about my money.
It was his secretery who promised me the world,
and would not stop calling to book me in for a date Id said Id CONSIDER.
I would advise that your friend get opinions here at home,
especially aged 20 she is likely to be adversely concious of her appearance due to being 20 and the masses of same age NATURAL scrawnbags who ANYONE would feel fat beside.
Maybe she only has about 7lbs (half a stone) to lose, just concentrated on one area that SEEMS huge being in the one place, like myself,
a problem that excercise would fix.
Shes going to HAVE to after lipo anyway.

Before I had met him I had changed my mind on travelling abroad and was DEFINITELY going to have it done at home.
Because I added up the costs and the dangers of travelling.
For one it was only costing me a average €1500 more to have it done here
and you must consider that you HAVE to stay abroad at LEAST 7 days AFTER surgery and be there at least two before (for blood tests and to pay their all important balance), total 9 days.
Add up the flight cost, check-in bags, 9/10 nights hotel, food, transport, bit of shopping and you soon arrive at around €1500 anyway.
If you have a friend travel with you, you must think of how much fun its going to be for THEM - you will be v unable to get about with any speed afterwards and no disco dancing can occur!
You could be STRANDED at your hotel
So accompanying friend SHOULD be paid for - flight and accommodation to be fair.
Which leads me to the dangers of GOING abroad - the two clinics I was in touch with BARELY bothered to reply to my numerous e-mails,
even when I got so desperate as to tell them I was ready to travel on such a date, to book me in for a certain day.
I had a lot of questions to ask but they didnt want to answer them.
I asked for phonecalls but got none. And this from LEGITIMATE clinics.
So if there were complications (blood clots, excessive fluid leakage, final results being lumpy bumpy) once you got home how do you think you would be received THEN, from thousands of miles away? You definitely wouldnt be going back to have it sorted but you definitely could be footing the bill for corrective treatment here at home.

Also consider this - you will often be quoted for ONE area.
Which I've discovered means ONE area. My inner thighs are flabby and just above my knees are a bit also. These are TWO areas.
    Two separate charges.
And clinics abroad will often mis quote you, you may think the price you got covers ALL your area but it probably wont.
Baffles me how they can EVEN quote based upon a few pics that you
e-mail...but Im sure that would all change once you present yourself in person...

To sum it all up - DONT go abroad.
Think about what I've said. You may not want to think because you're very excited by the thoughts of the end result.
Weigh up the pros and cons.
If you MUST then do it here at home.

But do at least CONSIDER embarking on a healthy eating and excercise plan first - there's lots of fun classes you can do now - boxcercise, pole dancing, spinning, pilates.

And Google up pics of Kerry Katona - she was tiny after lipo but months later (now) her body is a mess again, poor thing.
You all might say that's due to her extreme stress and unhappiness
but I'll say one more thing before I go
    - EVERY single person thinks that their OWN problems are THE WORST,
so what happened to Kerry's body after the lipo can happen to ANYONE else too. She had it all paid for by MTV. It's YOUR MONEY thats on the wheel here.

Keep us updated on any decisions made.

    :)

Here is a suggestion for your friend. You said she has 2,500 quid for lipo. So here is my idea, why doesnt she use that to buy herself a gym membership for a year, I know mine costs 500 for the year. Secondly then she could hire a personnal trainer for a few sessions to get her started and work on a good plan for her, once she is started after a few weeks she will notice the results. This has to be good deal less cheaper and dangerous than the lipo.

I go to the 3 at least 5 times a week and there are girls there that I have seen when they started and after about 6 -8 weeks you can see that changes.

I really think your friend consider this.

I'm 22 and I had a lipo procedure done in Dublin. I'm not overweight or anything but I just wanted to get rid of the extra belly fat which was bringing down my confidence.
I tried all types of diets and Exercise but just couldn't shift the belly fat so decided to go for lipo.
I went to Dundrum Clinic and paid €2'900 and I'm so delighted with the result, I went to Ibiza over the summer and lived in my bikini as I was dying to show off my new me!!
and as I live in Dublin I had no extra cost to pay (accommodation, flights) and great thing about getting a cosmetic procedure in own country is whenever you need to see the surgeon you can get in the car and visit him.

I researched a lot before I got the lipo and I did consider abroad at first but getting a cosmetic procedure does involves the question -what if something goes wrong!!
I would recommend your friend to go see a plastic surgeon in Ireland first. The surgeon in Dundrum Clinic is very friendly and there is a free follow up visit and garment included in the procedure.
I'm very happy with new me and I hope everything works out for your friend

    Hi Misypop

Im going to dundrum this week for a consultation with surgeon re vaser. I was just wondering if you could tell me if you noticed a massive difference after surgery. ive had 2 children recently and am nervous that the results wont be what i expected. any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also i was wondering why you chose dundrum as the ailesbury is much cheaper.

    Thanks

I second what Floppybits said. If you want to lose weight/change your shape you need to make a lifestyle change. Getting liposuction does NOT changewhat made you overweight in the first place.

A personal trainer, gym membership and maybe a nutritionist would be cheaper and more effective than any surgery.

She could spend some of the money on an intensive bootcamp type weekend and then keep up the exercise and diet after with a gym and if she likes, a personal trainer. Personal trainers are fine short term but if you want to stay fit and in shape long term you have to be motivated yourself.

You're only 22. I find it hard to believe that you had excess belly fat when you weren't overweight unless you've had children.

I believe that if you want long term results you have to put in some effort - liposuction is fine in the short term but being fit and in shape is down to lifestyle more than anything else. Eat well and exercise regularly.

i know this thread is months old but just wanted to tell you about my experience.
im 26 with one child and i too had the flabby belly that i could not shift with exercise.
Last year i had liposuction done on my belly and love handles, i paid €5000 for it, the dr removed 1.5 litres of fat from the area. after the op i was not entirely happy with the result, i made my appt for my check up after 3 months and told the dr that i didnt see a huge difference, he thought there was a massive difference !! and said there was still fluid on my stomach and to return to him in another 3 months for another check up. i seen him again that time but my belly was still the same.

I knew that having liposuction was supposed to give better results, i thought it was a waste of €5000 having it done in dublin.

Then about 10 months later my first op i decided to have it done again, this time in budapest, i was so sorry i had not discovered this clinic earlier, i only paid €2500 and the results this time were much better, my stomach is now completly flat, the clinic in budapest was amazing, the surgeon and nurses were amazing and i received better aftercare from the clinic in budapest than i did with the clinic in ireland !! and in my opinion the standards of the procedure are much better than in ireland. the dr from the clinic in budapest is in ireland every couple of weeks for aftercare appointments and consultations

I also attended a dental clinic over there and after seeing and experiencing the dental clinics there i will never go to a dentist in ireland again, even if my son ever needs a filling i will be taking him to budapest for it.

i was nervous too about travelling abroad and i had seen all the horror stories but you will have these stories anywhere you go, in the end i was glad i went abroad and i would recommend it to anyone considering plastic surgery (or dental work )

The thread was nearly a year old and so called zombie threads are usually closed as a rule on this site. Please feel free to start up a new thread on the subject though. Thanks.
