There has been hints of Mac updates for weeks and there was a big hint that it would be today. Well, the store is down so we'll have to wait and see.

All of them are still down, including the Irish one :).

Well, the leaked ads were for cheaper Minis at least (and the 1TB variation in your list could be a rumored Mini running OS X Server) and iMacs (a 21.5" iMac? I just want cheaper 24" ones!).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,592 ✭✭✭✭Dont be at yourself

Interesting that the minis are using SSDs. Are Apple aiming to make them even smaller? Replacing the AppleTV?

Also, is that going to be the Intel i7 3.06ghz in the new iMac?

Engadget is reporting that was only part of the list.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,191 ✭✭✭uncle_sam_ie

I wonder what K84 is. A new mouse maybe.

where you see mini's gonna use SSD drives?

i imagine that SD in the list above means it will have an SD card reader built-in.

SSD at those capacities would cost an arm and a leg.

Engadget has the scoop, new Minis, including the no optical drive one (two HDDs) running OS X Server, new mouse with multitouch, new iMacs (27" and 21.5") :).

New iMacs with 2.15 and 27 inch display, Multi touch Magic Mouse and LED Macbooks according to Apple PR. Store is not yet up though as best as I can see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

    I'd kill for a 30", i7 iMac.

That would be a very beautiful machine. Also, with a bigger screen to fit more behind, they could almost make it look like a cinema display...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

    27" is going to be 2,560 x 1,440 - sweet :D.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,487 ✭✭✭banquo

    Nice :D

Magic Mouse - I want it!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

I am very tempted by the 27" iMac (and it includes the mouse :D) - store still not up to check out prices here though... I also want to see what the deal with the video input is? If it allows HDMI in, I'm totally sold on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,267 ✭✭✭Elessar

Those iMacs are pretty damn sweet I have to say. If I didn't prefer Macbook Pros as desktop replacements I'd be all over one.

Speaking of which, give us a MBP with IPS panels and higher pixel densities. Now that would be a nice machine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

    ...and the store is back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,790 ✭✭✭cornbb

Would have preferred a new Mac Mini... can't wait to get that mouse though. Multi-touch is one of the best things Apple has ever done.

EDIT: jaysus, my bad, there's a new Mini and Macbook too

What's the deal with the Apple remote? It now looks different but I can only see a thumbnail in the iMac config pages...

Magic Mouse - I want it!
I'm tempted too but, the mighty mouse was a disaster. I ended up throwing it at the wall. I think I'll wait a little while this time before diving in.

Have a Mighty Mouse (which I never really liked) but am quite tempted by the Magic Mouse. I'm not sure, fool me once......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,025 ✭✭✭Ham'nd'egger

That high end iMac is too good to be true, and a very nice price to boot. Hmmmm, what's the bank managers phone number? :D

No changes on the laptop range with the exception of the Macbook, which is now has an Intel 2.26 Ghz processor and 250 Gb as standard, as well as a unibody battery and it's 7 hour life for €929, a score less than yesterday and with a lot more welly on it's side :)

On the downside, the Macbook has no Firewire socket and no backlit keyboard :(

Ok, the remote did get updated too - purely cosmetic though it seems:

    Damn, now i want a 27" iMac! :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,204 ✭✭✭Kenny_D

Anyone know the cheapest way to get an iMac? I was looking at the likes of dabs.co.uk given the exchange. Or even littlewoods if I could get hold of a 10% discount voucher or somethin. The education store might also be an option. Was thinkin of pickin up one of the 27" with the i7. Is the upgrade from the i5 to the i7 worth the price?

    mmmmmmmm......

though am pretty chuffed my new MBP didn't just get refreshed! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,480 ✭✭✭projectmayhem

Though I am happy with my 24" iMac, I would really, really, really like a new 27" one. Holy christ they're lovely!

I think for established users the mighty mouse is the thing we're most likely to buy

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,986 ✭✭✭✭mikemac

I'd say you meant the magic mouse

Gah, I bought a wireless mighty mouse just last week, I'm on my third one now. Very unhappy with them

As for the 27' screen, well I won't be upgrading from my 24' screen but that new imac is gorgeous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,039 ✭✭✭jpfahy

Yeah meant Magic Mouse, I have the mighty mouse but it's a real RSI giver, so I use my Dell laser most of the time. The new mouse looks great and it sure is overdue!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 22,693 CMod ✭✭✭✭Sad Professor

I'm gonna wait for some reviews of the Magic Mouse before I consider buying. The lack of rechargeable batteries is a drawback compared to my current Logitech mouse. That and the fact that Apple have a history of poor quality-control on their mice.

I love my Macbook's multi-touch trackpad. Hopefully the Magic Mouse will live up to it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,007 ✭✭✭Gerard_Smith

I'm sticking with MX Revolution for now. The magic mouse looks interesting but right now I have spotlight search, copy paste, back forward, expose and the dashboard all on a mouse thats fairly comfortable to use. If a third-party app solution come alone for adding more gesture then maybe but as it stands its looks like a step backwards in comfort and functionality.

If you buy off any Apple reseller, you are unlikely to have the new spec models for some time so you are taking a risk for a "discount".

New iMacs have 4 RAM slots and support up to 16GB!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭Gauge

That 27" iMac looks just lovely! And not as insane a price as I thought it would be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Yep, price is not bad when you think about it - before the upgrades, the top spec (without any custom configuration) was (24" 1920x1200):

    3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4GB memory
    1TB hard drive
    8x double-layer SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 with 512MB

    for €2,099.00...

And now the top pre-configured spec is (27" 2560x1440):

    2.66GHz Intel Core i5
    4GB memory
    1TB hard drive
    8x double-layer SuperDrive
ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics with 512MB

    for €1,799.00...

Not bad, not bad at all :).

I also take great pleasure in watching the price of second-hand stuff go down on adverts.ie.

I'll be in the market for a second-hand macbook around x-mas.

    Chuffed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Yep, we'll probably see an influx of second-hand iMacs and Macbooks now :).

I couldn't resist - I went and ordered a 27" iMac, my first iMac ever :D. Now I can't wait for it to arrive... the whole "ships November" thing could mean anything right up to the end of November I guess :(.

I'm actually kind of annoyed that they dropped the 24inch iMac. I'm not upgrading anytime soon but the 27 is too big and I'm not taking a step down in screen size so whats to be done?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,088 ✭✭✭fjon

There now seems to be very little in the difference between an entry level MBP and a white Macbook.
I notice the Magsafe from the MBA is now being shipped with all Macbooks. With the remote update as well I believe Apple have now totally ditched the white plastic look of a few years ago.

has anyone noticed the price between the us store and the irish store?

top of the range imac with no config is 1799 on the us store its 1999 is this the first time they havnt just given us the american price in euros or did i miss something?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,818 ✭✭✭Gauge

MobileMe doesn't use their usual $xx -> €xx exchange rate either (It's $99/€79) but I haven't noticed any other examples. It's nice to see though.

I was noticing the same between the IE and UK prices - up to yesterday, the highest end iMac was almost €150 cheaper on the UK store with the current exchange rate, whereas now the difference is under €50. The lower priced models, like the entry level Mac Mini are practically the same price on both stores.

it's since the launch of the iphone 3g (not S version) that apple have started not to just use $1 = €1.

    good move tbh.

AFAIK US prices don't include tax. Irish prices include tax at 21%. That accounts for some of it. The pricing sways back and forth depending on the Exchange rate and the mood Apple is in.

VAT in ireland is @ 21.5% and in UK is only 15%

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,132 ✭✭✭silvine

What would a 24 inch iMac be worth now?
    500GB HDD
    2.8GHZ Core 2 Duo,
    3GB SDRAM
    OSX 10.6.1,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Well, Mac2sell.net says €1,130 but I always find their estimates to be on the high side. Consider that the cheapest spec 21.5" (ok smaller screen, but same resolution) with a 3.06Ghz CPU and 4GB RAM is now €1,099.00 , I'd say yours is worth between €850-900... What graphics card is in yours? Probably something better than the 9400M in the low spec current gen. so I'd highlight that too if you try to sell it...
