I have had a barbell hanging from 2 adjustable straps which in turn looped over a bar in my attic, this forms a trapezee type chinup bar trapeze. But you need both lengths to be the same to be level. But if you have just one rope/strap you can just tie the bar in the centre with non adjustable rope. I have a had a go of a mini one and it seemed OK. I will make a larger one. I expect it makes you use more stabilising muscles and forces you into working each side more equally too, i.e. you cannot do most of the pulling with your strong hand or you will lean to one side. I also think you could purposely force one side to work harder by putting one arm closer/further from the centre than the other.

You could have this hanging from a tree out back, or your landing if you had a strong banister post to attach it to, or the attic or just your normal chinup bar. If you tied a loop in the end of the rope then the bar could pass through it and hold itself, sort of like a noose.

Nothing new about it but watching these made me want to try it, this is Steve Maxwell, in his mid 50's I think.

In this one he has "straight rings" also on the single bar, I expect this causes a lot more stability issues, mimicing longer straps.
