With an attitude like that you won't sell many records. Everything has to be made public to cash in...

The tatoo is visible in that picture in the link although its a little small to make out the tatoos.

They are "76 09" indicating the year of Gatelys birth and death

Im not into tatoos but meh

I was going to post this on the Gately rememberance thread but thought I 'd get lambasted for it, but the lads from Boyzone will try to get as much mileage and publicity from this death as they can, wait and see!

    Altogether now.....

I had a picture of you on my arm
Never knew it could be so wrong
Why'd it take me so long just to find
The friend that was there all along

Spot on B, from the word go the sad event seems to be milked for all it was worth.I'd say a certain Mayo man went into overdrive.

Make no mistake there is a very well organised and well thought out PR campaign in motion to maximise the return from this sad event.

Well spotted, I spotted it as well from the get go.

The Jackson family went a similar way. It's pretty pathetic to milk the publicity on somebody's death. I reckon their earnings will soar as a result of this. They certainly seem to be trying to make sure that that happens.

I thought it was strange they went to collect the body. The only reason for it as I can was for the press conference. They're using his death for publicity.

    maybe.
maybe they really are close friends.
and maybe he's deserving of a good showbiz send-off (including inherent publicity).

Depends on how close they are. If a friend of mine died abroad, and I felt I could help, I would do all I could do to help the family.

Unless it was somewhere cold. Or wet. I've enough of that here.

Basically, if a mate dies on a nudie beach somewhere, i'm there.

For the record, all the guys I am pretty sure are upset a lot and will miss
Stephen very much. Ronan and Keith and Mikey seem really decent and genuine and likable lads. I'm not all that taken by Lynch. He comes across as a complete tosser.

There is just somethin' tellin' me that this will be milked for all it's worth. I have to say, what the hell did they look like when they flew to Spain? I mean, c'mon, one of their close mates had died, and they were dressed appalingly. Complete posers, but not really right considering the situation. The bowler hats, shades and all that crap.

Anyway, watch this space, you will be seeing more and more of Boyzone and you can bet the gigs and appearnces will be fast and furious for many months
    to come.

    They're only tats
but that's not all we have
    to continue making hay

    Louis is on the case
cause a month is all we have
to sort out a pay day

    Get cracking on the words
and a Christmas song we'll have
    only 9 weeks away

That's fair enough anyone would but what help could the family really need? Are the rest of boyzone going to lift the coffin into the plane? No, there's people that do that, I'm sure the only reason that the family may have to go to collect the body would be to sign off on it and I'm not even sure they'd have to do that.

It just doesn't seem to make any sense that they'd go over there and do a press conference. All their doing is attracting the press down on the family while they're there to collect their dead relative. Maybe they where there as a diversion for the press?

The band members really do seem to be milking Gately's death for all its worth with the flying over to where the guy died, staying with the coffin all night in the church and now tattoos.

You can buy publicity its seems but you can never buy class.

    Quite unfair I think.
Whether or not they are 'milking it' is far too hard for any of us to tell imo and I'd be inclined to give them a large dollop of the benefit of the doubt - one of their best friends has died suddenly and surprisingly, a friend they spent many years with in close quarters, together experiencing something quite unusual.

The instant tats are bit cringy though.

They spent 16 years with the guy, they shared memories none of us could dream of, they were, as they said, like brothers. They're staying overnight with his body in the church tonight to have one last night together as the five of them. And you think they're milking it for all it's worth? Their best friend has died, I'm sure everything they are doing is for the right reason. Why do some people have to always think the worst of others?

bit odd that no one on the news etc has talked to his family instead of boyzone or louis walsh

Boyzone and Louis Walsh are in the public eye, his family are not and I presume they want to keep it that way.

And I'm also surprised that, when Louis was talking about the family's grief etc, he never mentioned Stephen's partner at all!

Well his partner made statements to the press through their solicitor, as did his family.

As far as I can see in Stephen's case "the worst" is only being alluded to by trolls on the Internet and rags that should be shredded before going to print.

That could be it too, maybe the lads are doing what they do best by distracting the press allowing the family to grieve. I'll look past my hatred of boyzones music on this occasion and give them the benefit of the doubt.

Getting a Tattoo of their former group mate is honorable. Jesus Christ, do it it Private and quite using this situation as a PR Stunt.

It appears to be that their Whoring themselves!. Get your Tattoo in Private after the funeral, let the body cool and wait a few weeks when the dust settles.

Then when the Crimbo No 1 comes around, let the people know about their great dedication to their "friend"

Just seams very early for this type of thing and if it mean anything to them they would do it the right way.

A Christmas or a dedication Album is on the cards.

    I could be wrong but.....

Wow, what a shock. The AH usuals slagging off people they've never met, saying things they wouldn't say in public.

They spent years together. On the road together all the time. They were best mates.

How come, when I was in college, my flatmate's buddy died in his mid 20s. My flatmate got a tribute tattoo on his arm. At the time, everyone thought it was a lovely thing to do. He's still proud to carry a reminder of his friend with him now, 10 years later.

The amount of stupid tattoos people get when they're in Thailand etc, and everyone thinks they're the dogs balls.

ut when a group of guys want a permanent tribute to their mate, the usual suspects, who consistently think of everything in monetary terms and don't understand the human way, have nothing better to do on a friday night than slag them off.

We'll I'm sure the members of boyzone will have second thoughts about it now.

Clearly we're miles from the Boyzone Appreciation Society here, but bearing in mind the man has not yet been buried, and whatever your opinions about Ronan & Co, they're a bunch of lads who have lost a close friend who has been an integral part of their lives for their most memorable years, in the most tragic of circumstances.

Maybe think a little about that and less about some of the shyte music they've produced over the years, before you add to the Jan Moir cvntish campaign to sound witty at the expense of a recently deceased celebrity and his family/friends left behind.

+1. I have no interest in boy bands or their music, but the fact is that someone's friend, someone's brother, someone's son, someone's lover has just died.

    Have some respect.

Let them, as obviously close friends of Stephen, judge what is 'too early' and what is the 'right thing'. Im sure you wouldnt want a bunch of idiots on the internet telling you and your friends what is and is not appropriate in the unfortunate event that one of your close friends dies young in tragic circumstances.

I'm not really a fan of tattoos in general but I guess they all wanted to do something to show solidarity and fraternity. If that's how they've decided to do it then fair enough.

Also, I really don't think that any of this is for publicity. When my granny died, she was in our house for the night before being taken to the funeral home and myself and my cousins stayed up with her in the room. It's something that people do as a mark of respect and tradition.

Stephen Gately was a young man who died suddenly and his closest friends are deeply upset and want to show the world how much they loved him. They also want to say a proper goodbye. They are lucky that, due to their high profile, they are allowed to stay in the church together tonight. It's nice.

I hate that people are accusing them of milking this. They have done nothing thus far that has suggested this and, even if they do bring out a single together in Stephen's memory, that will again be their way of paying tribute to their friend. They're also the kind of band who would probably donate any profit made on it to charity. Even if they don't, so what? When someone dies, you do what you can to express your feelings about them in whatever way you know and if the world is listening then good for you. For Boyzone, that way is singing.

Anyone insulting them for what they're doing has obviously never experienced what they are going through.
