I've been thinking this one over for awhile, so here goes.

Lets help each other out here, if you spot a particularly good bargain in the shops, cafe's, bar's, restaurants, petrol stations etc - post 'em up.

Are you getting work done in the house, your car serviced, looking for a regular window cleaner, plumber, tiler, brickie and don't have any contacts - why not throw the job up here, I'm sure we've lots of handymen (and women) looking for even the smallest jobs these days.

We're all in this sh*t together.

Guys, keep the chat to a minimum (use your PM function for chats pls).

If you agree with a particularly good service/post , hit the 'thanks' button & don't engage in chat about 'Mary behind the till with the nice ass'.

    Lets get cracking.

    .

the euro shops are excellent, some of the items they have for €2 are upwards of €4 in the normal supermarkets

Camden Casket (on Camden Street) is brilliant for bits and bobs for the house and it's ridiculously cheap. They have all kinds of things from paint brushes to plungers to cleaning products to bog roll - all kinds of everything!

I just moved house there the other day and I'm planning a trip in on Saturday to stock up :)

Just remembered this thread and that this offer was mentioned in the "best burger-thread":

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) offer any burger on the menu for 5 € before 5 p.m. any day of the week.

    This.

    5 Chocolate Bars for €2
Three Bottles of Coke etc €2
Five cans of coke, sometimes even Tango or Sunkist Orange €2

    Toothpaste 2 for €2

Go in and have a look, you'd nearly be guaranteed to find something you normally buy in Tesco or Dunnes for less than half the price.

Lunch in IKEA. There's very few places where you can get a substantial 2 course lunch with unlimited amount of soft drinks for less than €8.

Drop into Gloria's Four Seasons if you're in the Balbutcher Lane area -- Poppintree Parade. She has the above for the same price as well as USB hubs, laptop rests for keeping it cool, card readers, few other bits and pieces all between €2 - €4 or so.

And if you want anything in paticular and she hasn't got it, she'll get it for you.

Some real bargains in that shop in everything from tools, to toys to halloween costumes to hens night novelties (ie naughty stuff for girls).

Tell her Jim sent you and you might get it even cheaper. :D

I remember being in Sidney as a young fella backpacking and marveling a the "all you can eat" deals in the Asian restaurants and eating all I could eat for 10 Dollars... I lamented the fact that Dublin didn't have this. Well... how things have changed. I was in the Epicurean Food hall. All you can eat for 6.50! OK, the food is not going to blow you away, but if you are on hard times or packpacking, you would be hard pushed to buy the ingredients and cook all you can eat for that much money.

Just thought I would put this up, lots of people struggling, good for the students too... Any more all you can eat deals around?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,900 ✭✭✭✭Riskymove

there are others doing similar for differing amounts of money

theres a place on abbey street near the epicurean called "Full House" or somehting like that

theres another on baggot street called "Changs" for around €8

and theres a malaysian restuarant in the IFSC called Swai that do an all you can eat buffet on thursday and friday lunch time for around €12

All you can eat deals are going in the Epicurean Food Hall. They seem very very reasonable.

Jimmy Cheungs; all you can eat starters, main course and desserts for €12 at certain times. Epic to get through it all

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 16,397 ✭✭✭✭Degsy

+1 for Jimmy Chungs..the best of food and loads of it..its always kept fresh and replaced regularly..they've got a kick-ass bar too.
Went to Full House to compare the two and Full House is aload of crap..tiny selection of food and pissy little place too.

It does only seem to be the asian places doing it. Lovely place in Phisboro called ''Kung-Fu'' does an all you can eat deal. About 8 yoyo I think and its actually very nice, pretty fresh too. Very busy so the food is always topped up straight out of the kitchen. And best of all, It has a Bruce Lee theme.

I'm pretty sure one of the offers in the Epicurean Food hall is an Italian.

There's a similar place (Chinese food) at the top of the Stephen's Green centre although I think you just load your plate once.

    Have you actually eaten there?

I have, and it's rank. The food looks better than it is.

Top marks for the Full House and avoid the place at the top of the Stephen's Green centre.

There's also a Philapino place just up from Full House that do a similar deal.

Up to three years ago if you drove (or walked) up Balbutcher Lane, from Ballymun shopping centre, you'd pass a piece of raised green on your left which separated Balbutcher Lane from Belclare.

Today if you took the same drive or walk you'd notice that the raised green is gone... replaced by apartments above a line of shops... Centra... an off licence.... Gloria's.... a beauty salon... pharmacy. (I think I'm leaving someone out).

That old raised green is now Poppintree Parade.

Oh, just to stay on topic Gloria's is selling very cheap Christmas decorations and small gifts.

I was in Dunnes yesterday and got a Percale (high thread count) double bed fitted sheet for €7 and a pack of two pillowcases for €3. Percale is so soft and smooth to sleep on, and it's usually much more expensive. But once you go Percale you'll never go back!

does anyone still use mouse mats as they are unnecessary and more of a hindrance to a mouse whic his not a rollerball?

I read in the Irish Times that "Popular city venue Bang Café to be wound up" and I wondered, if it's so popular, why is it being wound up?

The indian restaurant called Tulsi on Dundrum road does a 4 course indian meal for about a 10er during the daytime on weekdays. (Main, starter, small desert and cup of tea). The portions are small but the quality is good and all-in-all well worth it!

Boots in the departure's of dublin airport does a sandwich, snack and drink for 3.50e i think. That even includes some triple pack sandwiches. Definately best value for money at the airport!

Are diceys on harcourt street still doing the cheap drinks? They were a while back anyway... it was 2e/pint on wednesday night, and 3e/pint on thursday night.

I'd encourage anyone to look out for Aldi's 'super six' fruit and vegetable offers.
They have weekly specials on for between 39 and 69c.

I got a punnet of cherry tomatoes, 3 lemons and an iceberg lettuce the other day for 39c each.

    Bargain :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,565 ✭✭✭southsiderosie

Clearys has a great sale on right now for towels and bed linens. Egyptian cotton pillowcases are 1 euro each; full Egyptian cotton sheet sets (flat, fitted, and pillowcases) for 15-20 euro. Giant, fluffy, wear-all-day-on-Sunday bathrobes are 20 euro.

Also, this week at "Some Like it Hot" in Drumcondra (just off of the train station) all pizzas are half-price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,818 ✭✭✭donvito99

Both Lidl and Aldi in rathmines have very low prices, due to being located right across the road from one another! Competition and all.

I'd say alot of the stuff there would be a good bit cheaper than the other outlets.

Oh yeah, for those who don't know, Lidl sell Coke, etc, for €1, yes, a euro. Save 50 to 55c. If only they stocked Vanilla Coke, truly heaven on earth.

Thanks for all the input guys.

Here's my latest from shopping around, haggling and whinging.

Skoda Octavia flywheel from Skoda in Prussia Street (mean dealers) €2,200.

I got them down to their "Lowest, I can't go any lower pal", €1,700.

Tom Walsh, Belfast N.I. (main Skoda, Audi, VW dealer) €800.

    S & M gearbox & clutch, James St. €920 (cash in hand).

Alan Fitzgerald, Newtown Ind.Est Dublin 17. Same job with CV boots inclusive - €980.

Shop around, there's massive savings to be made.

Thank YOU for starting the thread! I just moved back to Dublin and am reeling from sticker shock, so the tips on this thread have been quite useful.

Because of the move I've been buying a lot of household items this week, so in addition to what I noted above I've seen that:

    1) Ikea launched a sale today on random items within each department. Some curtains were half off, a lot of their really cool textiles were 50% off (some down to 2.99/meter), etc. AND you can get a big, cheap, tasty lunch!

    2) Arnotts also has a huge bedding and towels sale on (it seems like no matter where you go in Dublin linens are on sale - Ikea is actually pretty non-competitive on duvets and bedsheets compared to what you can get in town right now). They had good, really high-quality stuff for 50-70% off. I got a duvet for 10, and they even had organic cotton linens on clearance - these are normally quite expensive.
