If there's none in the main office (as you enter House 6 and turn into the office on the left), just go up and ask the welfare officer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44 buzzybb

i hate the thought of asking though!! :( just trusted that they would be in the office somewhere but anywhere i looked i cudnt c them.

Trust me, the Welfare Officer is there to help and they have to keep things confidential!

Otherwise, drop the welfare officer an e-mail asking where they are exactly.

Try and find a partner with a bigger penis next time.

I'm conflicted about the moral nature of handing out free condoms. If only there was a conservative catholic poster to show me the right path to our lord/o\

So you want to fornicate and expect the taxpayer to fund you? This is an outrage. While i do agree that it is unrealistic that tcd could force students into respecting their bodies, it is way overstepping the boundaries to actively encourage this sort of carry on.

And it doesn't just stop with the SU. The health service are at it too. I was in there a few months ago and the doctor asked me "are you sexually active". I replied "no" and then she said "are you sure?" in such a way that it made me feel like a loser for not ****ing the vagina off every drunken fresher. I happen to have a girlfriend and plan on marrying her next summer. If the rest of Ireland wants to rot away it won't stop me from living a proper life.

They hand out free condoms and promote safe sex because ultimately society (The Taxpayer) pays the price for unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.

And it's cheaper then the SU sending people over to England to have an abortion :)

As far as I know there's a swinging door system, Mick the Dick knocks up the first years and then Cormac the Abortionist sends them to the England. It's sickening, but it isn't the entire SU.

So I assume you're also against the anti-AIDS condom campaign in Africa?
I imagine these free condoms are aimed at the financially independent students who are living away from home and have to pay their own bills, and can't afford a €12 box of condoms, should they have to run the risk of pregnancy of disease because they need that €12 for dinner? Sex is completely natural, and not morally wrong, and everyone should have the right to practice it safely, no matter that their financial position is.

For heterosexuals casual sex outside of a loving relationship is downright irresponsible. If monogamy goes society will go with it.

    1) Are you against homosexuality?
    2) I disgree, and that's what contraception is for. If one uses contraception is used then casual sex can be completely responsible, and free contraception is what this thread is about. Ipso Facto, free contraception means that everyone can engage in responsible sex, which you should agree with, seeing as you seem to be mainly against irresponsible sex.
Africa is the only place where polygamy is truly prevalent to a significant degree.

    What about Utah?

I know I shouldn't be feeding you, but I like debating this.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭cantankerous

    1) Are you against homosexuality?

I am not going to enforce my morals upon anyone else, merely try and persuade them. God gave us free will, do I know better than god?

I am not against homosexuality but if I was gay I'd accept it as a challenge from god (as the catholic church says i should) and live a celibate life. I may consider becoming a priest. It's also not unheard of for gay people to realise their inner man and become straight (not saying homosexuality is a choice, no more than personality is a choice, but it is possible to change).

That being said, despite the church saying that gay sex is wrong, i don't see how it could destroy society. If someone wants to have gay sex let them deal with the consequences. It doesn't affect me.
    2) I disgree, and that's what contraception is for. If one uses contraception is used then casual sex can be completely responsible, and free contraception is what this thread is about. No, casual sex is not responsible.

    1. If you get used to sleeping around you will find it a lot harder to stick to the one partner when you are married and raising children. Especially as the years wear on and you no longer feel the same attraction to your partner as you once did. If you're used to sex sex sex you might find it hard to move on from the lover stage of your life to the parent stage of your life. This imo is why you see so much divorce.

    2. No contraceptive is 100% effective. At least one person I know (possibly more) became an unmarried parent despite contraceptives.

    3. People make mistakes. If a group of people have casual sex regularly it's only a matter of time before one of them ****s up royally while drunk out of their brains. I'm not up in myself enough to say it could never happen to me.

    4. If you look at the amount of single mothers now compared to decades ago clearly legalised contraception has not been effective (I'm not saying they should be banned-see first point of thread). But to any reasonable person it's clear they have done the exact opposite of what they were supposed to do.

    5. Casual sex isn't supposed to be that great. From what i've been told by those i've asked one night stands are nowhere near as good as sex with someone you love. That and all the effort some guys go through to get it :D.
I realise there's no point trying to convert atheists, so waiting till marraige is out of the question. But would it really be that hard to at least wait untill you find someone you love and wouldn't mind (if worst came to worst) spending the rest of your life with?
    What about Utah?

    :D

Why is homosexuality seen as a challenge from God any more than heterosexuality is?

If fairness asking where the free condoms are is hardly something you'd brag about. Unless you suffer from the aforementioned immaturity and you consider condoms "edgy stuff"

I hope you're just ripping the piss, I was only trying to say there's nothing really remarkable about asking where the free condoms are. Somewhat similar to asking about the free student counselling services, you don't expect a "Ooo-eee, look who's got issues, aren't we great" kinda response.

Indeed, I'm not even sure why I thought it was funny. Momentary stupidity probably.

I agree with you. Someone asking on the internet where to get free condoms isn't trying to brag about the fact they need them, they just find it easier to ask on the internet then going up to people in college in person and asking them, which is pretty understandable.

So it's true, it actually is impossible to be sarcastic on the internet :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 639 ✭✭✭devinejay

I always kinda figured that they somehow coded an anti-sarcasm mechanism into the internet way back when, since back then it was full of boring sarcastic uber-nerds and they needed to spice it up by introducing flame wars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭cantankerous

Why is homosexuality seen as a challenge from God any more than heterosexuality is?

Because heterosexuality leads to children, homosexuality doesn't. Heterosexuality is an enticement into a much more worthy and rewarding pursuit (child rearing). Homosexuality doesn't lead anywhere.
Not if you're in love with said wife, in which case you wouldn't have feelings or wants for anyone else.

Yes but you don't stay in love forever, as you have children to take care of. You move on from the sexual stage in your life to the parent stage. You have responsibilities that go beyond pleasing yourself. That's not to say you shouldn't still have regular sex with your partner to release tension and stay close. In fact I would go as far as saying that denying sex is completely contrary to what being a good husband/wife is about.

From what I've heard, married sex isn't the best either, and at least you get casual sex more often!

You do? I always assumed those in a relationship got way more sex than single people. This is common sense tbh. I know some people who go out every weekend to get laid. They rarely suceed. However, for those in relationships sex is a regular occurance.

Also, on that whole chastity thing, the church tried to enforced that with the clergy, look where that got them..........

I think it's a tragedy that a person with such knowledge in their own field of religion can completely overlook those without it. Just because one is not Roman Catholic does not mean they do not believe in waiting till marriage to have sex. I know many people who are completely non-religious but have high moral standings. Just because one is atheist does not mean they are raving whores of Satan.

Also, you should note that the people of your religion can also be known to have "casual" sex from time to time. Roman Catholic does not equal all things good and well with this world, so you can get off your high horse and stop trying to "persuade" your morals upon us.
