What part of the Southside are you on?

What do you want from your gym?

Without knowing anything else, I'd say to avoid Jackie Skellys. They are over priced, with staff that are so clueless it's almost funny, and in spite of fancy pools and running tracks, they don't have basic things like squat racks.

Go and visit some gyms. The best one for you is the one you will use, so one that is close to your house or work is probably best. Ask about prices, and be wary of ones with joining fees and that talk about how much per month if they insist you join for a year.

Go and visit, see how busy they are, what the gym users are doing, ask questions from the gym staff.

My own absolute requirement is that it should have a squat rack and a power cage. I've even seen gyms with no bench press. Any good gym should have a decent selection of free weights.

Also, check for general hygiene. It shouldn't stink or be grotty.

    Agree totally with Eileen.

When visiting the gym make sure to visit it at time when you are planning on using it.

Not much point visiting on a Sunday morning when it is empty, if you plan using it on a Monday night when it'll be busier.
