I'm 5'11" and I weigh about 11.5 stone. I've just started in the Gym and really want to build my body up. I have been eating plenty but I also want to start taking a protein shake (or something similar to build up muscle!). I've been through the thread on supplements but with so many suggestions there I was wondering if you guys could advise me whats best to take?

Fair play for starting in the gym!

Now post up your current diet and what you do in the gym...

Depends what youre doing in the gym.

I'd recommend a whey protein, either from Optiumum Nutrition or Reflex (just personal preference), mixed with milk.
Creatine is effective for strength gains as well whether it;s Creatine mono or Ethyl Ester etc.

Fish oil and some sort of multivitamin and you'll be well on your way.

As for gaining weight, if its all muscle you're hoping to gain, stick with the compound lifts, try to change to eating 5-6 (smaller) meals per day (every 2-3 hours) and remember that what you put into your body pre, peri and post workout is more important than the actual training you do in the gym.
That can be a strange point to take on board for a newbie lifter, i know it was for me anyway.
you need to feed your musclees the nutrients they need to grow in order to benefit from the training.

Theres isn't much point in taking a protein shake if your not eating properly for a start.

I agree that nutrition is important but no way is diet more important than training. You can have the best diet in the world but if the work isn't there you won't grow.

This is assuming the diet is not in question and that the work is being put in.
