I have pre-ordered from a videogame chain (dunno if im allowed say who), but i get the sneaky suspicision im going to be able to get it cheaper elsewhere, and it got me thinking about where most people get their pre-orders or new releases from?

    Thanks :)

I rarely pre-order, but the few times I have I did it with gamesnash.ie, the games arrived on the day before the release day which was a nice bonus. Doesn't always happen though. If I'm just going in to town to pick up a game on release day recently I've found HMV to be the cheapest. Game being a close 2nd sometimes. Depends on the game, but both those stores seem to bring in their stock from the UK or something. HMV worked out about 10 euro cheaper than anywhere else the last time I bought from them.

That's all if you want the game on release day though, if you can wait a few days more (which I never can), you can get games even cheaper online from play.com etc.

Any e-pre-ordering I've done has been through gamesnash (link to their boards.ie forum)... I think some people are still a little afraid of 'em because the name is new to them and because their site isn't so pretty on the eyes, but still... getting games like MGS4 on the day or day before release is great!

Gamesnash too. I got Scribblenauts delivered yesterday morning from them despite today being the release day, and have ordered Pro Evo and Modern Warfare 2 from them.

cdwow.ie are always a good site to go to. Delivered right to your door and in comparison to gamesnash, are quite cheap.

COD MW 2 at gamesnash http://www.gamesnash.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=58_28&products_id=1356

COD MW 2 at cdwow http://www.cdwow.ie/games/PS3/CALL-OF-DUTY-MODERN-WARFARE-2/dp/pc/9838933

quite a big difference you will see

Gamestop at the moment due to getting €30 of a pre-order once the trade in game is on the list.

So far I have uncharted 2 paid for and one more trade in will have call of duty mw2 ( the night vision set ) paid for.

CDWow are a disaster from my experience. Games take weeks upon weeks to be delivered, they advertise stuff as being readily available when they're not even in stock and when you complain they don't want to know.

I'm afraid to say I've had similar experience with CDWow. Even when they were fresh and new they still had awful customer service and mucked up delivery times, and even the products they delivered (happened to a friend, not me personally).

I'd always pay a little extra for peace of mind :)

remember waiting almost 2 weeks after launch for GTA4 from cdwow. Saved a bundle tho :D

The last 2 games i preordered were through sendit.com. Arkham Asylum, and ODST. Got AA day of release, ODST a day early, and cost me less than €30 each delivered.

I rarely preorder but when i know somethings goona be good i try get in as early as possible.

I found cdwow was the cheapest this summer, got

    Uncharted2 for 44e

The thing is though, you probably won't get either n release day, going by many peoples experiences.

I ordered Uncharted 2 for 43ish euro from www.videogamesplus.ca it was posted last night so i should have it on monday, it usually takes 2 days from when its shipped to get to me.

Also ordered God of war 1&2 blueray pack and MW2 they cost 86. considering MW2 is going to be 70 euro here i think thats a good deal.

Yeah well thats just it. I dont mind having to wait a little extra but i hope its not 2 weeks.(never pre-ordered with them before). Also i reckon both of those games are gonna be 55e (especially MW2) for the next year so ill keep my tenner.

I've got Uncharted 2 on pre-order with Amazon. They've always been ultra reliable, but I think this may be the first time that I've ordered something from them before release date. I'm living in the UK these days so that probably helps with delivery time. I'll keep all posted as to when I receive it if anyone is interested.

This is the cheapest ive seen it anywhere.

Hi all and thanks for the positive feedback from everyone :)

Just wanted to address the above comment about pricing. We are based in Ireland and ship from Ireland. We are therefore obliged to charge 21.5% VAT on all our products. When we are compared to other internet retailers who are based in and shipping from the Channel Islands or outside the EU these prices do not include VAT. In theory a game purchased from CD WOW can be stopped by customs and VAT levied on the package ( to be fair this doesn't happen too often but you can check the online buying forum to see examples of it happening )

The trade off of course is that our games arrive a lot quicker becuase we have dispatched from Ireland to you. It's of course up to the individual to decide to purchase cheaper in exchange for a longer delivery time but we believe that our service level makes up for the price difference. :)

I'd use gamesnash bar SCEE games as RRP is just too high on them.

HMV and such don't buy from irish distributor so don;t have the irish RRP problem.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 | £37.98 | CoolShop

    Uncharted 2: Among Thieves | £36.98 | CoolShop

Delivery to Ireland is free (or included in price of the game). CoolShop was formerly known as SoftUK. Used them several times before. Have to say that they have very rapid delivery and they price match any UK retailer! That means, you can get Uncharted 2 for only £34.99 delivered to Ireland (HMV and Amazon price atm). All you have to do is use their Live Support and ask for Price Match.

I pre-ordered both these games from GameStop. Bought some cheap games and got for each €30 store credit.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,919 ✭✭✭✭Gummy Panda

I'm tempted to buy from shopto.net. I just don't know what release price will be here. HMV might do 45-50 price.

EDIT: shopto put up the price. VGP is still tempting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭Rev. Kitchen

21.5% is a bloody lot when you think about it. It makes it very hard to try and compete with the other websites.

i often use gamesnash Only reason i went for VG+ this time was when i ordered U2 it had a USrelease date of the 12th and an irish release date of the 23rd( some shops even had the 30th).

We do our best of course and even beat the vat free retailers on certain titles. It depends on the publishers cost structure to the Irish market. I'd be the first to admit our price for Uncharted 2 is quite high ( most Sony published titles have very high Irish cost prices ) but we're retailing this pre vat at cheaper than play.com.

As a cherry picking example of a better price we are retailing pro evolution soccer 2010 at €45.99 delivered which less the VAT makes us €37.85. Play.com are receiving €51.99 into their pockets for the same game. CD Wow are receiving €42.99 but at first glance people can think we are ripping them off which is to put it politely very frustrating :D

the problem with play is that they use an exchange rate from about 15-18 months ago and never bothered updating it. on the other hand free post that they offer would surely be costlier to them as it comes through 2 postal services.

My problem remains that even without the VAT on some(not all games) that I can still buy games from other sites, get charged customs& excise and still get it cheaper than if it were VAT free. IF i knew how much ye were paying wholsesale i'd probably have less of a problem, though can you not claim some of the vat you pay back?

Personally Sendit.com have generally been good for me, though if i dont preorder it takes a bit longer than it should

We've been quite open about cost prices in previous discussions. We make approx 7-8% on titles after we have paid the postage and credit card processing fees.

There is a discrepancy between the RRPs in Ireland and within the UK which depending on the publisher involved means a significant cost price difference too as the wholesale price structure is set to match. As has been mentioned earlier in the thread Sony titles are a prime example. The RRP for Uncharted 2 is £49.99 ( about €54.00 by XE.com ) sterling and €69.99 in Ireland. It's costing us just shy of €57 vat included to source stock within Ireland. This is dearer than buying it off a high street retailer in the UK. We are literally making 82 cent on each copy of this. At one point we stopped taking pre orders on Sony titles because of the price discrepancies but were asked by customers to carry the titles anyway. The major retailers in Ireland are sourcing stock through their UK branches and sending them over here so they are paying a significantly reduced cost price when it comes to titles like Uncharted 2. Again it's a source of considerable frustration for us here.

If you take Pro Evolution soccer 2010 Konami have set a far more reasonable and matched RRP of £44.99 sterling and €49.99. We're selling this at €44.99 and are making €2.48 - € 3.50 on each unit ( again after paying postage and depending on the credit card costs which vary from card to card )

I usually pre-order games that I want on launch day in-store (Usually GAME) and any games I can wait for, I usually pre-order on the cheap from CDWow.ie. Takes around 7-10 days for delivery, but worth it when I'm saving 20 euro per game.

Ordered Fallout 3 GOTY, Borderlands and Tekken 6 from them 2 weeks ago for €98 when they had 10% off the whole store and sent me a €6 off voucher.

The 5 DLC packs would cost 50 to download so it would want to come in under that to make it worth the swap.

Wonder does the game have the DLC pre installed or can you just install the DLC then trade the GOY edition and use your original copy.

    Hi Lads,

We had not been carrying it for pre order but if there is demand for it we can get it in. The RRP in Ireland is €49.99 and we would be selling it for €44.99.

AFAIK the disc contains the previously downloadable content so you would not be able to do what you're thinking.

Current trade in value for the original is €7.00 but is likely to come down because of the new GOTY edition will have a flood of the originals coming through.

@ Weepsie - should take no longer than 24 hours.

Prices on the site include free standard postage with An Post. You can upgrade to registered or express post if you like. When on the site you can add anything to your cart and once there you will find a shipping estimator box which will work it out for you without the need to go all the way to checkout. Price varies depending on what is in your cart as it is calculated by the weight.

We generally only get confirmation of cost prices to us 4 weeks before release date so we don't carry pre orders until about the same time frame. L4D2 is due out 20/11/09 and we should have it available for pre order in the next week or so.

This thread's a bit old now but this is worth mentioning:

Zavvi.co.uk: I ordered Fallout GOTY and Borderlands from them. While there were some delays in getting supplies of Fallout once the order status shipped to 'Dispatched' I had it the next morning.

As for Borderlands that was shipped yesterday (Wednesday 21st) and I'm expecting that to arrive tomorrow.

They seem good, and reasonably cheap. I'm saving about 15euro on each game vs. Irish shop prices.
