Out of all the Horror films made since 2000, you're saying that the remakes of Friday the 13th and Halloween are the ones that stand out for you the most? Not to have a go, but I'd say you need to see more films.

This is a good place to start. By no means the be all and end all, but it probably has a lot of my pick in there!

    Rambo 4, obviously.

Seriously though, I think it's been a pretty good decade for films so far. We've seen a lot of exceptional directors rise, such as Christopher Nolan, Guillermo del Toro, Darren Aronofsky and so on. Clint Eastwood has been making some of his absolutely best films in years.

It's also the decade that gave us masterpieces like this:

If you haven't see this candy-gal1 I think you should get it out. Brilliant but very sad, especially the Old Woman :( I didn't have any sympathy for Jennifer Connolly's character, I never have any sympathy for Jared Leto.

    The Devil's Backbone

Amongst many others. Honestly, it's been a fairly good decade for horror as well, despite the endless Saw sequels.

Some of my favourites so far this decade:
    • O Brother, Where Art Thou?
    • Avalon
    • Cidade de Deus
    • Vozvrashcheniye
    • Dead Man's Shoes
    • No Country for Old Men
    • Das Leben der Anderen

Stands out for me are No Country, the lives of others, pans labyrinth and There Will be Blood (which Im convinced that in decades will be looked upon as an absolute masterpiece that was under appreciated during its time). Still cant decide whether Memento is a great film or whether Im being blinded by the fancy narrative.:D

I dont think it has been a great decade for film...I think there has been a lot of good solid films but there have'nt been many that I would personally rate up amongst the greatest of all time.

I think it depends on what your into...It has been a pretty good decade for Horror/fantasy and a lot of good stuff from outside hollywood has come out and to a wider audience but when I think back there just is'nt that much that truly excited me.

I think the last few years has also shown a nosedive in quality of the films offered by Hollywood to the masses. Of course there's always been ****e but it seems every film now has a 2/3/4/5 in the title or is adapted from a comic book.:(

    I liked:

    Being John Malkovich
    Bourne Identity
    Bourne Supremacy
    No Country for Old Men
    Memento
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
    Der Untergang
    Dawn of the Dead
    The Pianist
    Cast Away
    Training Day

Bad decade for movies though. I'd say the 90s was better.

I think due to the fact that the 2000s are the decade I became really interested in film there will always be a few stands out for me. Eternal Sunshine is my personal film of the decade (which I'm sure many will agree with, and equally many will disagree with) but it is the kind of film that just felt like it couldn't have been made before it was. It has such a huge knowledge of cinema technology, narrative form and general film and genre literacy that it probably couldn't have existed before the 2000s (same could possibly be said of Memento, but I think that has a much more basic story below it's admittedly fantastic structural tricks).

A couple of other stands out would be Spirited Away, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, WALL-E, Synecdoche New York and plenty of the ones mentioned already. I don't think any director this decade has had the defining voice others have had (take, for example, Tarantino in the 90s, Scorcese / Coppola / Spielberg / Lucas in the 70s/80s) and it is harder to pin down the decade with only a handful of films. I think what this decade has achieved is to further refine currently existing techniques and genres. The 2000s will probably be looked at as an evolution rather than the revolution of the 70s & 80s. But after all, where exactly can cinema go from here? There will truly have to be something spectacular to be a 'game changer', and I have very little hope that Avatar will be that film as James Cameron boasts. There have been hundreds of brilliant films this decade, but few had the revolutionary influence others have had in the past.

I'm a big fan of the Bourne trilogy - to me they've been a major addition to the action/thriller genre and have had a subtle, yet palpable, influence on a lot of films since their release.

Some good points made by Mr. Ultimate, in particular about the decade lacking a defining voice, although I'm not sure that's such a great loss, considering the number of talented directors we have consistently producing great movies; Nolan, Aronofsky, Del Toro, Chan-Wook, Meadows...

Subtle ???? Bourne trilogy has ransacked the genre, I gave some one Se7en recently who had never seen it and they thought nothing of it, even mention several Thrillers that basically copied Se7en.

Taken, The Bond Movies and even Die Hard all have a someone looking at them and that someone is Jason Bourne.

I was thinking in a wider sense; Bourne's influence can be seen in the Batman movies, Rambo, The Hurt Locker, Tell No One, Body of Lies, Anything For Her, and a lot more than comes to mind right now. Fair play for spotting the films that completely ripped it off, though.

I was point out the ones that came to mind. Will have to re examine The Batman Movie I felt that they were quite different. Thinking about it now I don't see the connection between Wayne and Bourne. Even in terms of just influence.
