With ten minutes of late entries still to play I have 48 players so far in tonight's tournament...

Congratulations to Luke Farrelly who took down the Lion's share of the €1140 record prize pool tonight... and to all those players who cashed. Hopefully those who jumped straight into the cash game will win enough to play tomorrow night in the €25 buy-in big stack. This tournament is consistently having six tables and a prize pool of around €1000 - which for a freezeout is no mean feat.

All tournaments at the club start at 8:30pm with late entry permitted in the first hour. See you then?

We were glad to welcome Colin who visited the club last night in the company of Roy Brindley who was dropping off goodies for us to giveaway on Wednesday Nights... they enjoyed a meal in the Cafe with their other halves.

Due to popular demand the wednesday night comp now has a starting stack of 3000 chips. The rebuy/add-on is 300 too, it costs 15 during the first hour and a tenner at the break. With Roy's added prizes its proving popular with the 17 players already playing.

Late entries for another half an hour...

Called in here last Saturday nigt. Had been at Italy match and so had a few on board. One cash table €1/€1 NL. Easy to join club and sat down. Decent dealers and dead sound lads playing. Free Heineken as well which was my downfall. :o Nice spot and will be back.

Had 2 tables in the comp €630 prize pool - not as good as the turnout a few weeks ago but the story of the night was Stuart "The Real" McCoy taking the win by knocking out every player on the final table. The shouts and cheers were deafening as he continued to beat players despite being behind: most notably calling a big all-in reraise from Derek Kelly with KQ. He was up against AT (a short stack visiting Frenchman) and AK from the two all-in players but a Queen flopped to send them to the rail.

He continued his streak on the cash game (runner runner to beat Kings as an overpair anyone?) before being hounded out of the club so that someone / anyone else could win a pot. Well done Stu and in the words of the old road gamblers "tell 'em where you got it"...

It was good to see everyone at the IPO earlier this evening, wish I could hang around but some of us had other places to be... particular luck to Adrian O'Kane who tells us he is sitting on around 105k going through to tomorrow.

Commiserations to our very own dealer Sean Judge who some how managed to lose a 150k stack in the last level of play yesterday. He tells us it had something to do with a losing a coin flip with AK for around 100k when he didn't give his opponent respect for QQ. Gutted, better luck next time.

Back at Voodoo HQ we have our €20 (+5) Saturday big stack tournament (6000 chips / 15 min clock) for anyone looking to get over the IPO blues - 25 players so far is more than encouraging - could this structure go down as well as it does on our packed Tuesday Nights?

Congratulations have to go to our very own Brevnie Early for taking down the €50 one rebuy/add-on IPO side event last night. Obviously it would be rude not to have played in tonight's €25 Big Stack here at the club... even after winning over €4k. As we type he's telling a few victory stories to the table of Saturday Night Voodooers

With only 17 players registered at the start of the 10+10+10 tournament tonight it was looking grim - who would have thought that we'd actually end up with 63 players and a €1400 prize pool!!!

I had all the tables on the ground floor in use (seven tables that is). Expect the place to be full to the rafters tonight for the €20 (+5) big stack... if we keep growing at this rate we'll be running out of tables in a few weeks!

just curious, ill be hoping to make a visit some time early next week, ill be coming from blanchardstown via 39 bus, can anyone tell me which is the closest bus stop to the venue??( i dont really want to be walking up/down to quays for to long alone, dublin streets these days aint the safest place in the world:P) and ill guess taxis do be flying by frequently enough at night for the trip home ??? thanks for future responces!

    Hi Niall,

The 39 Stops just before the 4 courts (where Church St. Meets the Quays).

Voodoo is actually just before that

Get off just before the 4 courts on Arran Quay and walk back up the quays for about 300 metres. Voodoo is on your right.

Here's the google map link for the 39 route. Stop 1477 is the one you want.

I would seem that even Irish Open Champions have heard about the popularity of the Tuesday Night €25 Big Stack at the Voodoo Card Club. Our old mucker from London was kind enough to drop in and grace us with his presence in the downtime in-between tournaments in the area.

After only a morsel of persuasion Neil was keen to become the 71st player in the tournament tonight. Remarks of "Surely that isn't Neil Channing?!?" were heard on the floor as he was going through the membership sign-up process. A bounty was quickly placed on his head of a ticket to the club's Halloween Party on Sat 31st October. Such was the attraction of the already limited availability tickets that players previously eliminated from the tourney were begging to be allowed a second chance...
    93728.JPG
The bounty was soon claimed when Neil's KJ was in back shape against KQ and JJ. Neil quickly found a seat in the Round of Each cash game next to fellow Bluff Europe columnist Derek Kelly where he played out the evening catching up with Derek and amusing the table with his infamous dry humour and anecdotal gems.

He was kind enough to pose for snaps with a few of the members... Good luck at the Winter Festival Neil and hope to welcome you and the BlackBeltPoker guys back to Dublin soon!

The Wednesday Night Game has been attracting around 2-3 tables recently. The chip stacks have been increased from 2k + 2k to 3k + 3k due to demand and this might account for the growing numbers we are seeing.

Hey, will be over to Dublin for some days and look for a nice Club to play.
A friend of mine from Germany told me about the Voodoo and that some Scandinavian guys will be there next week. Is that true and if so, when will they be there?

Hi, I'd love to see you at the Voodoo when you're visiting Dublin. I'm not sure which Scandinavians your friend was talking about but we had a couple of Swedish players in the club the other night... the game turned into a very juicy 1/2 No Limit Hold'em game.

There was loads of action - one of the swedes played a very open and aggressive style, if he thought that you might fold he had no problem sticking the chips in on massive semi-bluffs. An off-duty Mick from the Casino was also loving playing his patented "all-in I've seen one card" technique.

    Hope to see you soon!

Tonights tournament, the 3 tenners, with a maximum spend of €33, (€10+€3reg + 2 rebuys of €10 taken at any time) has been attracting a lot of interest of late.
We're averaging 45-50 players regularly for this game across 5-6 tables.
Its a nice way to start the week and shake off the Monday Blues.

There are three weeks left to qualify for our tournament and cash leagues, with 500 points needed for the tournament league and 60 hours for the cash league.
Every euro won in the tournaments are converted to league points and double cash hours available on Wednesday nights, both can be achieved with ease.

We look forward to seeing you at the tables.

We're expecting another busy Tuesday with tonights €20+€5 deep stack freeze out. With 6000 starting stack we get 70+ players every week for this.

We are adding double hours for anyone wanting to qualify for the cash league final between 7.30pm and 9.00pm every night this week as well as all night on Wednesday.

We look forward to seeing you there.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 114 ✭✭VoodooCC

We had 64 runners for last nights tournament with three cash games going from 9.30pm. With 2 PLHE tables and a very lively round of each, play finished at 7.45am this morning.

Tonights tournament is €15+€5 with one rebuy or add on for €15 with 3k starting stack sponsored by roytheboy.net and ladbrokes.
We average around 30 players for this tournament every week.

With double hours all night in the cash games for the cash league and a free breakfast for anyone at the cash tables at 2am, it should make qualifying for the league a little easier.

Wed night game is a good one but they inexplicably skip the 150/300 level going straight from 100/200 to 200/400 which puts great pressure on your stack too early IMO.

Many people have bemoaned the missing out of 130/300 from the offering at the Voodoo. Here's a few of the factors to work towards some sort of explanation...
    - The structure does include levels such as 75/150 and later levels that are often omitted. IMO this creates a structure that I believe is very balanced from start to end whilst not making you hang around until 4 in the morning just to bubble.
    - We also do not include antes. We feel that in smaller buy-in tournaments they slow down the play and increase the pressure.
    - The 25 chips are raced off during the main tournament break after level 3 (an hour of play), we like not having to keep stopping the tournament. To keep them in play we might have to sacrifice the 75/150 level and have players in their seats for over an hour and a half (too long for most I would wager).

I would happily have the 150/300 level but I think it would mean that the tournament would go on much longer (most seem to be happy with the finish times) or remove later levels that would put pressure on you at a later (more crucial?) stage of the game. If you really want all the levels you can try the marginally faster but deeper stack nights on Tuesday and Saturday that include all the levels you can shake a stick at.

Love the feedback and always willing to try things out. Hope to see you at the club soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 730 ✭✭✭aodea

Yeah the voodoo games miss a few levels here and there although to be honest it just means you can go deep and not be there till 3 in the morning on a school night. I think a problem could be solved by maybe slowing things at later levels. i was at a final table on tuesday with over quater of chips in play and only had 20 bbs. The final table was ten handed which means that there was less than 80 bbs in play starting the final table. I fell at this stage of a tourni maybe a slower clock or replaying a level would be a huge benifit.

Thanks for the reply Nick. I can see your point totally but missing that level took me from a 20BB stack straight to a 10BB stack and straight into all-in or fold mode last night. Granted I was totally card dead and never got it going at all last night.

From memory I think there is a big level skipped later on (normally at the FT) as well...

And this is just feedback Nick, not criticism. Personally faster structures & missed levels do put me off playing a particular game but thats down to my style of play TBH. I do enjoy playing in he Voodoo, there's a nice vibe in the place.

What time are the voodoo games finishing up at...?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 114 ✭✭VoodooCC

    Hi Dub13,

The tournaments are structured to finish between 1.30am and 2.30am (depending on numbers) during the week. As Nick mentioned to aodea the game is developed with the players in mind so you won't be playing all night and bubbling at 3 or 4am with nothing to show for it.
If you do still want to play later we have cash games that run till morning and spread different buy ins to suit everyone.

Last night we had 36 players and the tournament was finished by 2 am.
Thats with around 200,000 chips in play.

We had 3 cash games going with €1-€1 PLHE €25 min buy in/€100 max.
€1-€2 PLHE €50 min buy in and a €1-€1 PLO game with €50min buy in.

The PLO or ROE games that we spread usually play deeper that the Hold 'Em games with stacks averaging between 200 bb(ROE) and 400bb (Omaha).

There is a car park in behind and you shud get a space. The reg is not included its 20+5 with a 20 rebuy and 10 add on or second rebuy. is good game although one or two levels are missing.

    thanks aodea

how many runners normally do you know

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 114 ✭✭VoodooCC

    Hi 8ofSpades,

We normally get 30+ for this game. Usually 4 tables or so.
The game is €20+€5 to enter with 2000 starting stack, the rebuy is €20 for 2000 and the top up is €10 for 4000 chips.
    The clock is 20 mins.
As aodea has said one of the early levels has been left out (either the 75-150 or the 150-300, but not both) but we have added a 600-1200 level later on, which makes up for this omission.

There is a huge car park around the back of the club. If you are coming up the quays from Euston station the club is just over Queens Street bridge on the left, there is a left turn into the car park 20 yards past the club. You can enter the club from there on Coke lane.

We have double hours all week between 7pm and 9pm for our cash league for anyone who wants an early game.
