Bit of a war, maybe a natural disaster or building collapse and a bit of genocide thrown in for good measure. Christ!

    i love it!

i find that i have developed false memories from it though - i think i actually remember a particluar event, just because i saw it on reeling in teh years.
i even find myself thinking i remember stuff from before i was born!

    Are you kidding me??
Its the Best show on T.V, doubt that many people flick over it, highly watchable.
Hopefully they make i more up to date batch in a few years covering the 2000's. Altough they'll only become really interesting a few deades later.

    Here we go again, starvation.
Oh and it took almost 15 minutes for them to play a U2 song!

It's reminded me how assbackwards the country was in 1991. I remember 1991 and I'm only 25! People convicted of selling condoms in shops, the Beef Tribunal, everyone still looking like it was 1984. Depressing.

It was 1992 tonight, what was the song at the end of it. I love the program!

I can't stand the way the queen of England is just referred to as the queen. Ireland has no monarchy and there are more than one through out the world. Be specific and stop implying that Ireland recognises a monarchy:mad:

I think it's a brilliant program. Probably the best program that RTE has ever produced.

I think they try to mix up the happy stuff with the sad stuff. 1992 wasn't a great year, Bosnia/Somalia etc.

Think the last song was 'Would I lie to You' by Charles and Eddie.

I don't think I could count how many US programmes have called her "The Queen", but I don't think they'd be as worried about it as you would. I think at least a slight majority of people would know which Queen they're referring to without specifying a country.

    I LOVE it!great snazzy production!
Also proof if it was needed that history repeats itself.
perhaps RTE should consider a name change at least to the 1980's years?

De ja vu comes to mind:)

    1991 & 1992 tonight were great.

Ha ha ha did you see that couple on TLLS in 1991 giving out about a sex education video for adults. Ha ha ha ha

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHO THIS COUPLE ARE???!!!!! (The wife in her lovely fluffily jumper and her lovely husband Brendan).

They were hilarious! They deserve recognition and fame in 2009 :D

Well, to be fair, thats because in the 70's all the men pretty much did have flared trousers, whether they were captured by ancient Rté cameras or not....

    Still, good show.

I see they're hawking "Reeling in the 80's" at the end of the programmes again. Looks like another year goes by with "rights issues" causing problems for the release of the superior RITY 70's shows then...

The late 80s are best - 87/88/89

The 90s when made in 2000 seemed pointless at the time, but not now.

People having an orgasm over a show that is made up of bits stolen for everywhere else and crap music. It shows how far expectations of TV programming has fallen this decade. Awful stuff.

Ah, it's defo one of the best efforts rte has ever churned out, if not the best. No frontiers just pips it cos it has kathryn thomas in a bikini, but i'm not sure thats an rte production, i think they buy it off some independent crowd. So reeling in the years it is!!

Its an absolutley brilliant programme, by far and away the best stuff RTE have done. Its been re-run a million times at this stage but I never switch it off if I come across it.

I'm shocked and appalled, not a single U2 song in the 1994 episode.

Also kinda weird that the minute or so long footage of Boyzone didnt have a single shot of Stephen Gately as far as I could see.

it's an amazing programme, edited brilliantly, and very watchable. one can forget the context of particular episodes in our recent history, it's good for that among other things.

It's a pre-recorded show; I was looking out for him especially because of the sad news but there is nothing to read into not seeing him in a clip in a taped show.

Nothing is wrong with nostalgia. In fact, I like nostalgia. I'd love a more in depth look at years gone by.

Absolutely love it - still not sick of it. Superbly put together and I love how some really appropriate songs can be used. The idea is nicked from the BBC (The Rock & Roll Years) but still, just as good a job done.
It can be depressing all right - not just because of the awful events being set to music (gives it a particularly heartbreaking dimension - Omagh, James Bulger, and the descent into war in the Balkans in 1991 spring to mind) but because it makes the viewer pine for days gone by...

Had this series linked on Sky+ and noticed tonight at the beginning of the advertised 1993 episode:

"We not bring you a change to our advertised schedule......" and Nationwide came on instead. RTÉ then proceed to broadcast the 1994 episode at 19:00 as advertised.

Anyone know why they've omitted the 1993 episode from the current Sunday runs?
