Treadmill at Home

We've had a treadmill at home for the past 4 years or so although its only been used on a regular basis since June. Anyway last night there was a horrible smell of smoke in the room which I presume was from the belt burning.

Today when I went to use it, it wouldn't move. The display and buttons were working fine and the incline was going up and down no problem but the belt wasnt moving and there was no noise from motor. Anyone know if theres a remedy or is it done and dusted?

Surely you have to lube those things after a certain mileage. Im nearly sure I used to do this when installing gym equipment in my youth.

Id dump it and buy a kettlebell :-)

You are meant to lube under the belt with silicon lube. And only step on once the belt is moving. Tho all this is moot, cos it sounds like you have an electrical or motor problem. Depending on how much the treadmill cost, and how much you want it, you could price a service call.

I'm sure a service for it from a company wouldn't be too expensive.

Needs a service, if you were a member of a gym you'd see treadmills out of service pretty regularly.

I've no idea what it will cost to get someone out to service it though

I've had a treadmill now for about 10 to 12 years and never once lubed it and its fine, are ya sure ya need to lube them or is that just for a certain type.

Had to get mine checked under warranty a while ago, the service guy explained about lubing the belt as described.
